And we have another good news with our ranking in FIBA Asia.

https://www.fiba.basketball/asiacup/2025/qualifiers/news/fiba-asia-cup-2025-qualifiers-smart-power-rankings-volume-2-aus-jpn-phi

We are now at the number 3, next to Australia and Japan. I'm just curious though, why is it Australia in included in the FIBA Asia when Australia is not in Asia. Anyone know the answer?  Grin

He totally deserves that achievement since we see how big his contribution for current achievement what Gilas get. Although they feel out short against Brazil but still Brownlee and the whole Gilas boys show something great about their current run on qualifiers. That's why future of Gilas basketball team is so bring especially that we could able to see the Philippines Basketball is now upgrading.

Now for sure the favorite team in Asia would be Japan and the current bracket they belong would be a huge challenge to them especially that those teams you mentioned is hard to bet since they are compose with solid roster. Especially with France where Wemby and Gobert is there.

And with that contributions he still thinks that he did dissapoint the fans as he did not perfomed well on that last game, but for me personally I see how him playing with that big heart just how us pinoy always say "Puso" which makes him pusong pinoy he deserves all that recognitions as he really help if that's the right term or probably carried the team to play in the semis, though the campaign fell short but still a big achievement to an Asian team reaching the semis and noting also that we are in the rank #37..

Well done JBL a huge hug and always proud having you to PH national uniform, Congrats..

Great achievement for JB.

Justin Brownlee named to All-Star Five of Latvia FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament

Among other names are.
Quote
Brownee joined MVP Bruno Caboclo of Brazil, Rihards Lomazs of Latvia, Jeremiah Hill of Cameroon, and another Brazilian in Leo Meindl in the All-Star team.

He really deserved to be on that spot because he brought the team to the  semis when we the team only ranked at 37 IIRC.
So their jobs are done, I think we can not way for the PBA to resume... Anyone knows when is that date?
Congratulations to JB. While our country has gained that respect from other European teams, JB will get more opportunity this time because of his performance on Riga, Latvia's FIBA OQT. Despite our loss to the OQT, we can still cheer for Japan that has got in. Don't forget that they're an Asian country and team so, let's push them and support them all the way to the Olympics.

Congrats to Justine Brownlee for making it to the mythical five and congrats to the Gilas boys as well for making our country proud. Even with the loss, they deserve out utmost respect.

As for Japan, yeah we can cheer for them but i don't think that they could win a single game in the Olympics as they belong to a group with Germany and powerhouse France. This Olympics is exciting for me as i want to witness how France will fare against the US team if ever they will meet in the semis or finals.

I don't want to say that to Japan but let's just give them some hope and I don't want to speculate the obvious. But the ball is always been round as we've got that quote in our country about basketball.

Most of the guess that I have seen telling that it will be France that will take the gold for this year but still, we will see as they're all great teams. They're already a winner as they've qualify to Paris.

Sometimes Kai could also be a problem, just like what happened during the last game against Georgia. With Kai on the floor, Gilas struggled and was down by as much as 20 points. However, when he got injured and did not return, that started a good run by Gilas, as Georgia probably got confused with our offense. Having Kai play limited minutes is fine, in my opinion. As long as he is health playing his role, we should be able to compete with strong teams like Brazil.
It's his time if he plays well against Brazil. There are scouters for the NBA but he should think first of winning than that. I see him as a really great addition to the team, he's young and coachable and that's why Tim Cone took him on his wing. He's got the potential and good news, he's be able to play later and hopefully that he'll contribute just as how he has played against Latvia. Within few hours, the game is about to start and let's all join hands as well in voting Kai and Brownlee as the mvp although it's not an official MVP award.
(https://www.fiba.basketball/en/events/fiba-olympic-qualifying-tournament-2024-riga-latvia/news/vote-now-who-is-the-best-player-in-oqt-2024-latvia?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTAAAR14Yc48jqCKGPh9-ox96qq5YoNLaCLEu7LRWDg8BLzaGjrMxxAZ_cwAjYU_aem_T8zuQY-DgqFmYp7agQeSxA)

Last time I checked, Brownlee was still ranked number 3, but now he is already at number 1. I think we Filipinos are really strong, as we have a lot of keyboard warriors, giving us an edge in that department. Well, I guess Brownlee's performance needs to continue so he can solidify his ranking for the MVP award. Maybe scoring 30+ points and hitting a game-winner would be unforgettable for the fans.
Yeah, we've got a lot of keyboard warriors and voting on that page isn't that hard at all. One can vote unlimited by just refreshing the page and you're up on it. And you can even do more by doing incognito and doing it with other browsers and that's why it's not surprising that with the unity of everyone, at least with this kind of voting, we've got each other's behind.

Just like what coach Tim said, when they already in the game they will find ways to win though the campaign for OQT is already done there's a lot of time now for the squad to improve and adopt whatever they've learned from that experienced.

Looking forward for more competitive games that this squad will provide, Proud to be Pinoy!

Tim Cone said in an interview that they are already in the "now we know" stage, they just have to get better so next time they can win games. It's just right that people will be proud with what Gilas achieve despite losing in the semi finals as this is a big stage and we are not even expected to be here.

Still, we should be proud as our National team is in the right hands, with the learning experience we earn in the OQT, this will surely build our confidence and  we may dominate in the FIBA Asia because of this.

As long as he will handle the team I do beleive tht they've got a lot to offer, with most of our core are still young surely they learn from this experienced and they will continue to pursue their goals, though they now will go back from their original setup will play from different teams and different handlers but I'm pretty sure what they've learned will bring more hypes to their careers,

I'm looking forward for Tamayo, KQ and Kai to keep improving and be ready as the time is no longer a friend for JMF and Japeth,

still a long way to go for sure they leave a mark with all those teams who watched their games, the next opportunities will be more harder so they need to be ready.

Nothing to say with how the team played just so happened that Brazil have those caliber players who can play good defense though I see a lots of missed call fouls especially with Junemar those kinds of attempts has been bothered because of contacts that refs didn't call, and regarding with JBL he did try but I don't know why he keep missing his shots that tight defense really materialized against him, I'm hoping that Ramos will be the one that will carry the team but he as well struggles a lot of missed penetrations and those drop passed, not for the National but still being proud as the world recognize the improvement that the team showcase during those games.

Brazil played very physically, which worked in their favor. They used their advantage, which is obviously their height, and they have a center who is better than JMF. Prior to the game, we already knew that they have a lot of NBA players or former NBA players, so it was really hard to expect a win, especially if our shots are not falling. Brownlee, who was supposed to be the one carrying the team, struggled big time when the defense was very physical and sometimes he was double-teamed. If Tim Cone is a smart coach, the coach of Brazil is also smart, as we can see they really prepared for our Gilas.

However, despite that loss, our kababayans are still proud to see how competitive we are on the international stage at a higher level.

I agree to that, even we lose that game the pride for the flag is with everyone who support and believe for the team it's something that all of us fans can be more than proud for the team and how they play the game, just like what you said, even how smart coach Tim, the opponents are ready and they've got the selections where they can really match up for our nationals.

However, they have more athletic bigs who can also shoot from the outside, so we need to disrupt their shots and tighten our defense in the paint to avoid being abused in that area. Good luck to all. I know everyone here is rooting for the Philippines to win. Just believe in the team as nothing is impossible.

This is true, and because of that we struggled in the paint while Brazil can easily attack the paint and grab some offensive rebounds. We had a good start but starting the 2nd quarter, Brazil already figured out how to play us, and we were not able to make the right adjustment as Brownlee has struggled as well. If we look at the boxscore here, we will see that our shooting percentage had dropped significantly. https://basketnews.com/games/view/116546-brazil-philippines.html

Brownlee only scored 15 points from 5-16 shooting and was in foul trouble, so they really know who to attack to beat Gilas.

Great job for Brazil but the Philippines are already successful as we reach this far.

We will find out tonight if he can deliver as expected. Brownlee is the heart and soul of the team; if he struggles, the whole team will. Brazil is a team that loves to run, but we have some advantage with their guards, as they have a lot of short guys with heights like 5'10" and 6'3", if I'm not mistaken.

Everyone here already prepared for the semi finals tomorrow?

This is a win or go home game, so we should give our full support with the Gilas Pilipinas with our prayers.
BTW, we have some good news about Kai Sotto as this news has just newly published.

Kai Sotto camp 'highly optimistic' he'll play in Gilas-Brazil semis

Since the x-ray is negative, he should play because it's a very important game. Brazil is a strong team, so Gilas can't afford to play without its twin tower. Hopefully Kai would really be a warrior and dedicate this game to the Philippines. let's go to the finals Gilas..

That's really a good news knowing how important Kai's present inside the paint, like you mentioned the twin towers are needed to help JBL and together with all the players it will be a tough competition for the National a win or go home game in hope that we will be able to have that chance to OQT.

Again the team will lean to CTC and his staff finding and creating good system to give team Brazil the competition that will test them, only one team will move forward so for sure we will expect our National to go all in.

Sometimes Kai could also be a problem, just like what happened during the last game against Georgia. With Kai on the floor, Gilas struggled and was down by as much as 20 points. Yeah, and that's the good thing with coach Tim he always have that good alternative so even Kai went out of the game because of that injury coach Tim managed to find the best replacement and they manage to work on their rotations, the current squad whoever will be the one to be called playing, each of them shows their best and provide decent performance even how limited it is.

Looking forward for the entire squad to play harder and escape the game against Brazil keeping the hope alive for the OQT.

The Gilas will go to the semis. I have forgotten about the quotient points system and I was moved by those big men of Georgia that have been playing physically. But this is more painful to them, I'm not sure if they're going to face Montenegro which seems to be a harder team to beat. Whilst for Gilas, they will have to wait who's the winner of Brazil and Cameroon. But I guess whichever teams gets to the semis and will have to face Gilas, puso is the key, right?  Grin <3
Congrats again Pilipinas, everyone will have a goodnight sleep.

WHoever will be the next opponent PH national sqaud already developed that Puso and laban mentality, we've seen how great the players shows even those young guns who only got some minutes to play they are all in playing for one goal, I'm hoping that they will continue improving and adopting how the international competition works and how they will suit themselves in any situation that they'll be going to face.

Moving to the semis means another tough contender who have that same intentions, OQT is almost at hand they just need to prepare harder to earn that spot.
They're going to be against Team Brazil this Saturday night. And it's also another tough opponent, I hope that they'd win against them. Not sure if there's still a quotient system applied but this semis is all about winning the game. It doesn't matter whether there will be more or less playing time to the younger ones. Tim Cone knows what he should do as he has watched the Cameroon and Brazil's match last night. 2 more wins away and our Gilas will participate the Olympics.
