And for the odds, we can see that the Philippines have a very attractive odds for them to qualify in the Olympics.

Very attractive, but not worth the risk especially if you will look at their opponents.
We might have close matches between Poland and Turkey which are top European teams, but Latvia and Georgia are 2 different teams especially Latvia who is at the top right now in FIBA rankings.

Latvia might not have Porzingis playing for them, but their playstyle is just amazing. Shared ball, lots of 3-point shooters, and they also have a Power Forward player that can pass the ball as well. In Georgia, we might have a slim chance, but still, my expectations are too low for our team. Not being pessimistic though. Just sharing the facts. Anyway, I guess let's just enjoy their games. Who knows. Cheesy

Thanks for this info kabayan, this is very useful but i don't wanna take that bait as it is just a wishful thinking that Philippines would top this year's Olympic's qualifiers.

By the way, do you the odds and the spread on the Gilas vs Latvia game already. I might bet for the Philippines but of course with the handicap and hope the game will be close. For sure the Team Latvia is also scouting the Gilas team right now and might blow them away in their match tomorrow hehe.

So I was looking for the betting odds for Gergia vs Philippines but it's not yet available, maybe I'm too early because the game will be on July 4, 2024, so still few more days although the Olympic qualifier will commence on July 2. As i was checking, I see this article on the list of schedules. and also see the teams that are already qualified.

Quote
The winners of each OQT will join the eight teams already qualified for Paris 2024:

France
USA
Canada
Australia
South Sudan
Japan
Serbia
Germany

So Japan already in the list, it's the only Asian country that has qualified, who knows Philippines will be added.
Yes they are in the list because they have win games during the FIBA world cup.
This team have improved a lot since they already have 2 NBA players, Rui Hachimura and Yuta Watanabe.. while the Philippines at the present line up, we don't have any, unless Clarkson will play, but he'd rather not because the current Gilas team are doing well already.
Thanks for bringing up that important information. I only knew about Hachimura, but I've seen Watanabe before when he was playing with the Suns. I'm not sure where he is playing now.

Not having NBA players is not an issue for our team. The fact that we were able to compete against a strong team like Poland shows that we are ready for Georgia and Latvia. We know it's a tough battle, and the betting odds may say we are the heavy underdogs, but that's fine.

I agree to that though having Clarkson is something that may add offensive threats especially if they allow him not as naturalized but a native player and together with JBL that's something big for our team, he might change the tempo of the system but knowing coach Tim I'm sure respect is always be with him, facing the reality, the current National squad is fully equipt after seeing those exhibition games I also believe that the chance is possible for the team to make an upset.

Do you think we have a chance? (yes/no)

of course, just be optimistic, we might even qualify in the Olympics. Just trust Tim Cone as he'll do some magic.

It's good to know I have my fellow Filipino here believed on what Gilas can do. Yeah, let's surprise the world.

We all hope for the best and for sure CTC and the rest of PH nationals they will do evertything to make our country proud!

Gilas made us proud with just a 2-point game against a team ranked number 15 in the FIBA world standings. That's impressive.

But that was Gilas trying to come back. IIRC, Poland's lead reached as high as 20 points, but Gilas had a strong run that gave a scare to the home team. I can't believe that Gilas has improved this much. Although some comments mention they don't move the ball well and lack a true PG, Ramos is not a true PG, so there's a problem with ball movement. However, Ramos was really clutch, making shot after shot to stage the comeback. It was him and Brownlee who carried Gilas on their backs.

I don't know if we can win in the actual game in the qualifier, but based on the last two games, I see there's a possibility.
Kai's value was evident in that game. His presence in the paint made it difficult for Poland to attack easily. Just like in the last tune-up game, it was the opponent's great 3-point shooting that hurt Gilas. Overall, it was a good performance because it was a close game. I love their improvement. They fell short, but that's fine because it was already close. With just a little fine-tuning, especially on the FT side, they'll get it next time.

I guess they are well prepared now for the qualifiers. Good luck to Gilas.

Kai has to be aggressive, like he played in the last two games. Blocking shots is not enough. He needs to be a threat on offense as well. I see that he is getting more confident with his shots. Hopefully, that's a wake-up call for him, and he'll do even better in the first game of the qualifier.

They gave it all and almost upset Poland, just fell short of time but it really an interesting game for PH Nationals, the adjustments are working for them and the rotation gives them the game play that they needed, hopefully they will continue to developed and bring this type of game system in an actual game for the qualifying match.
That was a good match actually and of course that can help boost the morale of the team. I can see the coaching staff is working very hard right now to meet the expectation of the Filipinos. We all know how big deal the basketball is in our country, and I just hope that we support them more instead of bashing them. Let’s hope that those tune up games will pay off.
Gilas is really something now, they're really great and to think that Poland has a high ranking, that means we can really compete.

82-80, just a 2 point win by Poland, I guess some might have expected this will be a blowout win for the Poland, but the Philippines surprised them.
I'm wondering what was the betting spread for this game, I'm sure fans for the Gilas have won the handicap,, this one was really intense and easy money for the bettors of Gilas. Congratulations to us for this strong effort, despite the loss.

I agree, this is better than what we're expecting and as this tune up game really will help the Gilas to experience further and more adjustments to come before the actual Olympic qualifying games. The roster is perfect and if there are negative comments from the fans, just don't be distracted with that. The team, the coaching staff and the players are all doing their best and they're actually doing a good job, they are there to win and they want it badly just as how we fans and kababayans want it.

This is indeed the reality, more than the fans, it's the players and the managements who wanted to win badly, they are playing to make the country proud, and with what we are witnessing right now, they are in the right directions just some adjustments that needed in terms of defense especially those big man who are playing outside that adjustments is really needed to fill out, we need those young stars to use their speed to rotate they need cover those defense if ever JMF or Kai has been outrun those young star like KQ or KT both have the height who can give that tight defense for those outside shots.
Our shooters need to be sharp and for the defense, they need to attend to that because it's known that most teams have got their best shooters. Or a harder opponent is that most of their players can shoot outside. And with that, they need to take note of that which is surely on their books already, just a good rotation and can't deny that this version of Gilas is doing it. <3

Yup, and they show it up very close game against Poland almost a win but fell short of time only 2 points but PH National give a hard fought and for sure Poland got surprise with how the Nationals take the challenge, a very close game and an almost a blowout but that last minute rally really give some hope lucky for those  bettors as if I heard it right handicap is +12.5 or more not really sure.

So the Philippines will have their last tune-up game against Poland, which is ranked number 15 in the FIBA world rankings and considered a stronger team than Turkey. If Gilas has learned from their previous game, they should perform better this time. If they can make it a close and interesting game, I believe their chances against Georgia and Latvia will be promising.

So the game will be tomorrow but in order to be able to watch it, we need to be awake by ;

They've lost against Turkey but I can say that they're able to against them in a hand to hand from most of the quarters not until 4th quarter. The Gilas is doing fine and the next one will be up against Poland. I think that we're getting a positive sentiment with our Gilas roster, they just need to be more prepared for guarding on the three point lines as most of the EU teams have got a lot of shooters and they don't play inside a lot since this is the kind of basketball they play.

With that experienced against Turkey I'm sure adjustments in playing good defense outside will be noted, like what you said EU basketball type of game is more on outside as even the big man are shooting outside, if not for those converted 3's it might be much closer or possible an upset take place, just not for team PH as Turkey manage to pullover in the last few minutes of the game.

But, for me it's good to see our big man really pushing their ways inside looking for mismatch and take the shots without fearing being block.

JMF showed he can compete with the big man. During the FIBA world cup, he even compete with KAT, how much more these guys who are just tall but not as big as KAT.

Indeed and he keeps improving with what we witnesss during that game against Turkey he shows great movements inside, in our term " Nakikipagkaldagan" which is really effective just like you mentioned he already deal with it competing against a NBA star and now he will be playing against those bigs for sure it will be a great experience for him and Kai as PH team will rely to both of them inside.

Just need to add more confidence outside as players from EU are more on outside shooting we need to adopt and adjust.

Gilas Pilipinas loses to Turkey in well-fought Istanbul friendly

https://www.fiba.basketball/rankingmen
Turkey is ranked 24, 1 lower than Georgia, so this already is a good test on our chance against Georgia. Although we lose but it was a well fought game because we weren't dominated that much. Still a good job by our team, hopefully they'll improve and correct their lapses in that game. I'm just gonna watch the highlights now as that game was too early.

Yes, they made their shots from the outside, which was key to their win. It's rare to see a bigger team not attacking the paint to take advantage of their size edge. However, as you've mentioned, the game has changed now as even big men know how to shoot from outside, and they wouldn't use that strategy if they weren't confident in their shooting. I think more pressure defense is needed next time. They should rotate faster when there's a switch to better defend against outside shooters.
