I wonder why RJ Abarrientos didn't play in the PBA, I think he could be a great point guard in a strong teams like the SMB, Ginebra, or TNT.  I'm just so proud of out team that we have achieve this big victory. Congratulations to Strong Group Athletics.

H was already selected by Ginebra, you can see on this video. RJ Abarrientos as THIRD PICK overall | PBA Season 49 Draft

You are right, he could be a good point guard with this team, so with that, Scottie won't be playing that position anymore if they will give him a starting role? I think he deserve that as winning a championship with SGA is bigger than winning a championship in the PBA.

We have an interesting player making his debut in the upcoming Governor's Cup. How is he related to the Flying A, Johnny Abarrientos? I saw him play with SGA and he was really tough; maybe his experience overseas really made him a better player. But now that he is back in the PBA, I'm curious: does he have a big offer from Ginebra, like an underground agreement?

When I was watching the game, I thought that SGA was about to lose. That less than 2 minutes was crucial, I think that Taiwan has got 5-7 points in the lead but turnovers and 3 points led by RJ Abarrientos did it and as well as that shot made by Kiefer.
The last ball posession made the game overtime and our SGA did it well.

True, the Philippines were already down by about three possessions, but we didn't give up, even though the calls of the refs were very obviously favoring the home team. But that was the game. We played hard, never gave up, and made some clutch shots. That shot by Ravena was really big, but Taiwan got back to bring the game into overtime.
That was a good game by the Philippines, they really fought hard to bring the victory and they succeeded in the overtime. I really thought they'll continue to dominate but this Taiwan team also has their imports and half american, the young guy who is only 18 years old but played with great skills in basketball. We have imports as well, I think among the teams we are the one with most imports.

I think our imports also did pretty well, but players like RJ Abarrientos and Ravena were big in the clutch. So, a big congratulations to this team! After the last win in 2019, we got ourselves back in first place. Hopefully, they'll continue to work on the lineup so we can at least dominate this tournament, which is easier compared to the other tournaments our team, the Philippines, has been participating in.

It's not only Philippines, Taiwan Taipei B is also 7-0.

Good luck to SGA and I hope that they'll be the one to win this game. The game is live now.
It is on half time.

 Strong Group Pilipinas (GOLD)   8   0   +8
Chinese Taipei A (SILVER)   7   1   -1
Ukraine (BRONZE)   6   2   +6

Philippines ended winning a gold with undefeated record. This is a big achievement for the Philippines, their basketball really is already developing as they have dominated in this big competition. Kudos to the coaching staff as well as without them, this wouldn't be possible.

So now we know that Coach Chot is really a problem. ( no disrespect to him).
SGA and Gilas are two different teams but should just stay in the PBA.

I don't think that other countries don't give importance to this tournament. While in the history of Jones Cup, we've got some championships too but look at Iran. I guess Haddadi's retirement really hit them.
I think Iran has not participated in this tournament as I don't see their team in the rankings. Currently, only the Philippines are still undefeated, so it's safe to say that the Philippines will likely win. For Japan, I think they send their best players as are very much fulfilled already since they will be participating in the Olympics, while our team failed after a good start in the Olympics qualifier. So maybe this is the tournament that will make the fans happy when SGA wins the trophy.

Congrats SGA team for winning the title and bringing that back to the country, it's really good to see winning it with a dominating outcome, taking the league's best performances as they complete the league undefeated, like what you said not just the players but also those coaching staff and the whole management behind this squad, they deserves a sweet celebrations!

Maybe yes, Japan already good with their journey after being qualified to the upcoming olympics it might be good for the team to focus with their journey and maybe they just sending players but not those from the national squad, while SGA is really doing good having that winning streaks, like what you said the chance of winning the title is possible and that's a good relief after being short from the last OQT.

Honestly, I think the current lineup is better than the players who played during the Olympic qualifier. You can see a lot of imports in the SGA team now, unlike the Olympic qualifier where we only had one, Justin Brownlee, our naturalized player. Maybe that's the reason why we are dominating the tournament and are very close to winning again after the 2019 success.

Another big win by the Philippines.... 79-92 was the final score and we are still on a winning streak.
Congratulations again to our SGA.

I thought I would be thrilled watching the games when SGA is dominating in most of them, but I didn't feel it. Honestly, I like to see SGA play against good teams where the game is close so I can feel the thrill. It seems like in this tournament, we are sending our best players, but the other countries are not putting much interest into the league based on the quality of players they sent. I don't know if it's just me, but that's my honest observation.

just look at that.

No, Juan GDL is the first Filipino player participates in Euro League way back year 2022.

BREAKING NEWS: Thirdy Ravena is finalizing a deal to join BC Dubai, multiple sources just told me.

BC Dubai is a newly-established team that will enter the EuroLeague beginning with the BKT EuroCup this coming September.

The former Ateneo star left the Japan B. League last May after four seasons with San-En NeoPhoenix.

Keep making the 🇵🇭🇵🇭 proud Thirdy!!!

He's been criticized by some fans but this guy is like the Russelle Westbrook of the Philippines. I think he really deserve to be on this spot, what do you think, does he has a shot of getting into the NBA? like what's next for this, is it NBA, right?

This is amazing news and we can see that Ravena is really developing so well overseas and his talent has been seen then scouted well to participate on more bigger leagues. Also can't blame people for his past performance and I think he learn a lot from that then do a lot of work to improve his self to became good and be a team player. Now he's bound to play on Euro League then hopefully he can showcase his talent since if everything will end up well on his side then provably other teams will again try to look for another Filipino players to join their team.

Him and his brother are reaching their dreams. His brother Kiefer is with the SGA Philippines and is currently on a winning streak in the Jones Cup tournament. Speaking of the Jones Cup, the Philippines will have a game vs. Taiwan. Can this be another blowout win?

Regarding the PBA, I have read a rumor about Jalalon. It says he cannot play with SMC teams anymore as he's suspected of selling games and playing outside activities not permitted by the PBA. What can you say about this rumor?

Oh well, stats said it all as the terms that you use it might be possible that other countries are not really paying attention with Jones cup.

Moving back to PBA, did you read that article about coach Yeng  making another statement  " iba yung magaling sa magulang" from how I see his point,  SMC and MVP groups can quickly upgrade their teams while independent teams needs to wait for the draft or trade that can equally Sent players.

Though he can just make statements but he can't do nothing about it as PBA officials always gave their blessings for both groups  of companies ,.

Philippines SGP vs Japan is currently playing.

We are leading 14 points now in the 4th quarter, looks like this is another win for us.
For those who wants to see the game, just search in facebook as there are streamers who are giving this for us free.

Hopefully another dominant win and they will not melt down in the 4th quarter

Go Strong Group Philippines!

60-74 is the score

Another big win by the Philippines.... 79-92 was the final score and we are still on a winning streak. There's no question that we will win the gold in this match up because AFAIK, it is based on the number of wins that will be declared as the big winner and so far, it is the Philippines who are at the top. We are currently 5-0, solo at the top. https://www.asia-basket.com/William-Jones-Cup/basketball.aspx#google_vignette

Thanks, but the website seemed not updated, it should already be 6-0 now. Anyway, as what we can see in the  - boxscore, these are the big contributors of the game.
Quote
Strong Group Athletics-Pilipinas 92 – McCullough 26, Fenner 17, Heading 11, Ravena 9, Chiu 8, Abarrientos 5, Tiongson 4, Ynot 4, Liwag 4, Ildefonso 2, Manalili 2.
While for Japan.
Quote
Japan U22 79 – Ozawa 17, Harper 10, Saeki 10, Sato 10, Kibayashi 9, Sakai 6, Hasegawa 5, Kurokawa 3, Buto 3, Asai 2, Arai 2, Watanabe

Good for them, their top scorer is their local player.  Smiley
BTW, Philippines don't even have these 3 players in that game.

Well, if the USA will get serious to tournaments like this, they'd send their stronger line up. But I don't even know who are their players but as long as they're team USA and their name is attached to it. It's a very proud moment that our SGA have won against them and they're currently in a winning streak and I hope that they'd be able to win this tournament. Well, RJ Abarrientos is there when he got drafted by Ginebra.  Grin

USA performance is not much impressive and it seems like they are not really serious for putting talented guys on their roster that's why their campaign end up miserable so far in this tournament. But anyways still great performance shown by SGA since so they didn't lose even a single game and there's huge chance that they could able to take the championship for this season on Jones cup.

We can also see that Basketball program of Philippines now upgrade since we could really see that they are giving a good fight on their international opponents. Let see if Philippines will be consistent and take home another title on Jones cup.
The talented ones are going to them their entire budget and I think getting a superstar will cost them a lot. So, with all of these players, these are their future prospects. Just like our country, we've got Gilas and there goes the Strong Group. I think that Alfrancis has also made another league for the aspiring new bloods that shall enter the pro scene of basketball. It's another development program managed by him.

Another big win by the Philippines.... 79-92 was the final score and we are still on a winning streak.
Congratulations again to our SGA.
