A bad start for the Gilas when they've been zero point and I think 16 points for Georgia. But as the 1st and 2nd quarter ended, I can say that it's still fine. They've managed to lower the lead into 6-8 points, and now Georgia is up by 12 points at the first half. Hopefully, the second half will be in favor of Gilas. Most of the threes are in and our boys need to strengthen their posture as these Georgian's are physically playing the game, well this is basketball and it's all physical and that's why they need to harden their postures. Hoping to see a positive and win for this game, <3 Gilas.

Not the kind of game I expected for Gilas to play. They came out flat in the 1st quarter, but fortunately, they were able to come back in the 2nd quarter, and the lead is now just 12 points by Georgia. I see it as a manageable lead, and I hope they'll be able to have a strong 3rd quarter so we will have an exciting game in the 4th.

Score now 43:55. For those who can't watch it through live streaming, you can follow the scores here.

tonight at 7pm, we will be seeing the Gilas to play with the Georgia, per bookie, we are currently at +6.5, I think I'll still go with the moneyline here.

It's actually 8:30 PM. I checked on the sportsbook and the line had dropped a bit, it's now +5.5 and the total is 158.5.

I'm confident that Gilas will win because Latvia had dominated this team, so we really have a huge chance and I see the line is quite undervalued so I took the moneyline instead.

Thanks for the correction. The game has already started just search in your facebook as there are plenty of free live streaming.

This is in, Kai should still continue is aggressiveness as we need to play harder even Georgia is of lower ranking compared the team that we beat.
Good luck to us and to Gilas, may tonight be full of winning bettors.  Grin

It's the Philippines x17 to win a.....

So did anyone able to hit the jackpot? I did but just a small bet, however on the handicap, it was too easy and I never felt the thrill watching the game as the Philippines have dominated a very good team. They were surprise and probably didn't have the system to beat the triangle offense of CTC.

Tonight, another try for Gilas to win and for them to advance in the semi finals. Based on what I read, win here and loss not more than 18 points, they'll automatically proceed in the semi.

GL Gilas Pilipinas, make us proud once again.

Congratulations again to our team and with this win, it ended the 64-year losing streak against European teams, and we already have a high chance of entering the semi-finals of OQT.

Wow, this is history and what a time to break that losing streak with Brownlee leading the squad. Fajardo and Sotto were milking the defense of the Latvian downlow as they were having a hard time defending the Gilas bigs. With this win, the Philippines is on the map again in terms of world basketball and they can't forget the name Brownlee who have done an awesome job in leading the Gilas boys both in Asia and in Europe.

I have put a few dollars for PH +21.5 @1.86 think that even if they lose, the game will be close but they exceeded my expectation hehe.

I didn't expect we will win that easily. What a game by Gilas, it their effort and the good ball movement that made it possible to win against the number 6 in the ranking. JB is just too good and good think Kai really showed up, I hope there were NBA scouts who watched that game, also, for Brownlee, I think he still has a chance to be in the NBA since he is really good, even better than an NBA player.
I'm surprised as well, I think majority of the fans were surprised with the result. Now, I know that Gilas is really capable of not just competing by winning  against any Europian team. I even think that it's possible we will qualify in the Olympics, at least that's the goal first and if we make it, let's discuss our chance of winning the gold.

Anyway, here's the news! Gilas won against Latvia top 6 team in the basketball power rankings. The defense of the Philippines was big! (Solid na solid) I thought Latvia would comeback in the 4th quarter, but it was unlikely because coach tim come knows what he's doing! its okay to get 24 second violation as long as Latvia didn't score. Brownlee also carried the team in scoring. He even made 4 point play, that was the I know Latvia can't comeback.
What an upset. Nobody expected it to happen. We know that there's a chance, but what are the chances. Cheesy

Our team held the lead all throughout the game. Started with an 8-0 lead and from there, the lead just ballooned out to double digits and at one point, it was more than 18 points already. Latvia tried to make a comeback, but it's too late for them already. I like the system of Coach Tim Cone and how he utilizes our bigs because he knows that the players of Latvia can't defend both of them that much. Fajardo and Sotto scored 11 and 18 points respectively. Of course, let's not forget Brownlee with an almost triple-double performance.

Key reasons that I know why the Gilas won is their interior defense that caused the Latvia to score more on threes. The problem is their threes isn't going in as well. They only shot 10/42 on the field which is awful. Anyway, here's the situation for Group A. LINK

Congratulations again to our team and with this win, it ended the 64-year losing streak against European teams, and we already have a high chance of entering the semi-finals of OQT.

I am looking for discussion thread for the Paris Olympics to post this but the last post there was in 2023. I'm afraid to post there as it might get deleted. So let me post here instead.
This is fine, PBA is on the break and some PBA players are also there.

Congratulations to our very own Gilas Pilipinas. When I have watched how Coach Tim Cone talked during their practice and actual game against Poland, he's a real coach. It's not about how tough the words are but the determination. I really like what he said: "We're here to win the tournament not some games."

And the odds for Latvia vs Philippines is not out.

It's the Philippines x17 to win and +21.5 for the handicap. Total is 160.5 (over/under)
check in this bookie.

So guys, what do you think would be the choise here? I'm sure most of your will be on +21.5, but how about the moneyline odds, does it look attractive to you?

So this game will be in the midnight, hmm.... I guess I'll try to bet on the handicap first, then if I feel they'll win then I will go for the moneyline, I'll just do a live betting on that moneyline bet, it doesn't matter if I'll get a lower odds, x10 would be fine with me. Good luck Gilas, this is a tough game but I always believe that our team is underrated, so let's get this big win and qualify in the Olympics.

Underrated indeed though that's an international game and different from those exhibition games but still I believe that coach Tim got a competitive squad, I like your idea taking the handicap and watch the game then take the ML if you see the opportunities, hopefully that great rotation comes up and the players are all in playing the game.

We do have a complete package though our shooters needs to have that early confidence taking shots, it's needed as we all know how the opposing team played the game, aside from defending them outside we also need to have that good answer when they start throwing those shots, good luck mga Kabayan!

In less than 2 hours the game will commence. So far, there has no changes on the handicap, it's still +21.5. Gilas needs to have a perfect 3 point shooting in order to win the game, and of course their defense should be consistent as they are playing against the taller players so they cannot play lax defense. Well, I trust that CTC will be able to make an in game adjustment especially if this comes out to be a close one.

There is this odds on one of the sportsbook I have checked.

To Win All Quarters - Philippines x125.  (interested with that?)  Cheesy

Nice strategy, I guess I'll follow it but I have to rest early tonight because this game will be this midnight in our timezone. Hopefully there will be some free facebook live streaming so we will be able to follow it while we are betting. I'm already impressed with how they played veruse Poland, now if KP will not play, then I guess Philippines has a chance of even an upset win.

Very attractive, but not worth the risk especially if you will look at their opponents.
We might have close matches between Poland and Turkey which are top European teams, but Latvia and Georgia are 2 different teams especially Latvia who is at the top right now in FIBA rankings.

Latvia might not have Porzingis playing for them, but their playstyle is just amazing. Shared ball, lots of 3-point shooters, and they also have a Power Forward player that can pass the ball as well. In Georgia, we might have a slim chance, but still, my expectations are too low for our team. Not being pessimistic though. Just sharing the facts. Anyway, I guess let's just enjoy their games. Who knows. Cheesy

So I was looking for the betting odds for Gergia vs Philippines but it's not yet available, maybe I'm too early because the game will be on July 4, 2024, so still few more days although the Olympic qualifier will commence on July 2. As i was checking, I see this article on the list of schedules. and also see the teams that are already qualified.

Quote
The winners of each OQT will join the eight teams already qualified for Paris 2024:

France
USA
Canada
Australia
South Sudan
Japan
Serbia
Germany

So Japan already in the list, it's the only Asian country that has qualified, who knows Philippines will be added.
Yes they are in the list because they have win games during the FIBA world cup.
This team have improved a lot since they already have 2 NBA players, Rui Hachimura and Yuta Watanabe.. while the Philippines at the present line up, we don't have any, unless Clarkson will play, but he'd rather not because the current Gilas team are doing well already.
Thanks for bringing up that important information. I only knew about Hachimura, but I've seen Watanabe before when he was playing with the Suns. I'm not sure where he is playing now.

Not having NBA players is not an issue for our team. The fact that we were able to compete against a strong team like Poland shows that we are ready for Georgia and Latvia. We know it's a tough battle, and the betting odds may say we are the heavy underdogs, but that's fine.

I agree to that though having Clarkson is something that may add offensive threats especially if they allow him not as naturalized but a native player and together with JBL that's something big for our team, he might change the tempo of the system but knowing coach Tim I'm sure respect is always be with him, facing the reality, the current National squad is fully equipt after seeing those exhibition games I also believe that the chance is possible for the team to make an upset.

Do you think we have a chance? (yes/no)

of course, just be optimistic, we might even qualify in the Olympics. Just trust Tim Cone as he'll do some magic.

It's good to know I have my fellow Filipino here believed on what Gilas can do. Yeah, let's surprise the world.

We all hope for the best and for sure CTC and the rest of PH nationals they will do evertything to make our country proud!
