And this,

So the last time we were in the Olympic was 2015, but was even just a replacement to New Zealand, let's see if we will be back again.

That was a long time ago, it's almost 10 years and now we are knocking on that door to be able to enter. I agree with what the above poster have mentioned, our chance in the qualifier is very slim because of the bracket that we are in, even against Georgia, we might struggle, but since Justin Brownlee is still our naturalize player, we just need to move the ball well and have to be consistent with our 3 point shooting.

Looking at the roster's match up, we would have a problem due to size difference, but you know, we Filipinos have this "PUSO" which will lead us to  a possible victory in the game.

If we look at the last 5 games of Georgia, they only won 1 out of 5, while the Philipines have won 4 of 5.

So I'm giving it to you to analyze if we do really have a good chance.

By the way the tournament will start July 2.

With this tournament that we will follow, it seems like the return of the PBA will be after this. Although the Gilas are on a bracket that are with the good teams, we can still trust them and hopefully even if they will not win they will be able to compete and give the opposing team a scare.

Philippines is currently ranked at 37 while Latvia at 6 and Georgia at 23, this would be a tough challenge for Gilas, but nothing as impossible for this team.

Ranking list.

This is for the Olympic Qualifying Tournament, right?

It is good that SBP sends a contingent for the tournament even though the chance of making it is so slim, don't get me wrong but the level of opposition is just very tough. They will be against taller and more athletic players from Europe which is very hard to beat but anyways, good luck to Gilas on this another journey.

Yes this is. I think the Philippines are trying to qualify in the olympic so they are sending our team. They came from behind in a win against China, we never expected that so we just have to trust our team here but just don't expect. Even if they'll loss, it doesn't matter though as we already know our chance is very slim, but according to coach Chot Reyes, this can be a "learning experience".

Against Latvia, it's almost impossible for our team to win with them. Against Georgia, maybe there's a chance.

Just for context, during the last FIBA world cup, they're at the top in terms of three-points made with almost 13 a game. That stat alone shows that they have lots of sharpshooters. Also add the fact that Porzingis "MIGHT" play for Latvia since he got more time to take a rest after getting that title in the NBA. I'm not pessimistic, but I'm just stating some facts. As for Georgia, I'm not familiar with how they play, but knowing that they're 23rd in rankings, that just shows how strong they are. Compared to Latvia though, we have a chance against them.

Anyway, nothing is impossible like you said, but let's set our expectations at lowest for us not to get disappointed. I believe in our team though.

This is still a big achievement for the Philippines to reach at this level as thought we are not at the top of the list, they can call our brand of basketball being competitive, And yes, we have a chance against Georgia, so winning that game might already make the Filipinos proud. As for the betting odds, currently it's not yet available.

And this,

So the last time we were in the Olympic was 2015, but was even just a replacement to New Zealand, let's see if we will be back again.

Not a good news for the Gilas fans.

Scottie out of Gilas for Olympic qualifier
Quote
GILAS Pilipinas will have to make do with an 11-man crew in the coming Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Latvia.

Guard Scottie Thompson is the latest player to be stricken out of the national team as the former PBA MVP hasn't fully recovered yet from the bulging disc that has bothered him during Ginebra's campaign in the recently concluded Philippine Cup.

Thompson now joins fellow injured players Jamie Malonzo and AJ Edu on the sidelines.

But based on the latest article, he is included in the line up.

Gilas Pilipinas final 12-man roster:

Player   Team
June Mar Fajardo   San Miguel Beermen (Philippines)
CJ Perez   San Miguel Beermen (Philippines)
Chris Newsome   Meralco Bolts (Philippines)
Justine Brownlee   Pelita Jaya (Indonesia)
Japeth Aguilar   Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (Philippines)
Scottie Thompson   Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (Philippines)
Calvin Oftana   TNT Tropang Giga (Philippines)
Dwight Ramos   Levanga Hokkaido (Japan)
Kai Sotto   Yokohama B-Corsairs (Japan)
Kevin Quiambao   De La Salle University (Philippines)
Carl Tamayo   Changwon LG Sakers (South Korea)
Mason Amos   Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines)

We can also see on that link the group where Philippines belonged.

Thanks for the update, in terms of Thompson's capabilities, I think with how Newsome played during that finals for sure coach Tim will give him more time, knowing that it was coach Tim who call for him and adds him in these squad, I like the balance as all the players can be rotate and blends together, they already prove it last time and with the practices that they conduct and the kind of trut they gave to their headcoach, we might see a very competitive squad who can bring good recognitions to our country, good luck Team PH make our coutry proud and again be notice internationally.

Thanks for the update, I'm glad to see that Brownlee is already in the list.

I agree, Thompson may not be 100%, and we saw that on how he played in the All Filipino cup semifinals series against the Meralco, so if he will not play, that's understandable as long as Brownlee is there.  As to their bracket based on the article provided.

they are with  Georgia and Latvia in Group A.
Meaning they'll play this two teams?

I thought Hugnatan was no longer with the Bolts, but he just changed roles from player to assistant coach.

Now, he has a championship to his name. It was a long-awaited success, but it finally came, even though he is no longer a player.
https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/reynel-hugnatan-s-loyalty-to-meralco-pays-off-with-long-awaited-championship-a795-20240620?ref=feed_1_section

and this is what Newsome had said about the work ethic of Hugnatan,

Quote
Hugnatan set an example
“'Papa Rey,' he set that example to all the Meralco people,” said Finals MVP Chris Newsome. “Even today, he is the first in the gym.”

Even in his mid-40s, Hugnatan continues to keep himself in shape, and is actually under contract with the San Juan Knights in the MPBL as a player.

This success is really big for them as this is the first in the franchise, so hopefully we will see them again in the same stage.

Thank you kabayan for the correction, I made my own little research and indeed it was their first title after 14 years of campaign. This may be their first but this could the first of many championships to come as this one really bolster their confidence that they could beat a giant team like Ginebra and SMB. If they could get a good import this Commissioner's Cup then most likely we can see them fighting for the championship again later this year.

Hopefully kabayan since TNT seems unable to find the right blend to compete with SMC's squads it's better to see another team to carry the torch of MVP's squad hahaha, we can't deny the fact that only two giant owners can really pay for players /stars that will be compensated so well, and moving back with Meralco's current roster, hopefully they will continue working with more improvements and with that competitive desire to win another title if given a chance.

With the wholse cast of this curretn champ roster, adding a good import who can give them that support that they need to stay on top, let see if how they will perform this coming new season.

If Meralco will keep their defense but will improve their offense like TNT, they can be so deadly as like TNT, they are good outside shooters. Next season is a different season with imports, so hopefully they'll be able to get a good one. Actually, I miss Durham,  I hope he is still available and be the import of Meralco as that import is really good, he could carry his team but he will now be playing a better team in case he'll be back again.

What a run for Meralco and finally, they get their first ever title in PBA.
They are contender to the title for years and now they finally make it and yes Newsome did a great job this season. Still kudos to SMB for showing their hearts out, I'm gonna miss PBA again as the next conference will take more time to wait. Have you guys celebrated along with Meralco or lose the bet with SMB? I made some profit here betting with Meralco, it's worth the risk.

In my memory serves me right, this championship is the second on the franchise while first for the Philippine Cup.

Based in wiki, that was their first championship.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meralco_Bolts

Newsome and Hodges were instrumental in that championship and yes kudos to the Beermen for giving the Finals a must anticipated game to watch and as i have observed, fans were trooping to the arena to watch those finals games.

On the 6 six game of that Finals, i was 4/6, the lose were the last two game as i though that the Beermen would win that game after a good showing in game 4. I regret on not sticking to my game plan of always betting for the Bolts until the end of the series.

True, Hodge is also a big factor in that success, his energy on the floor is remarkable. He really put an effort on defense and getting the rebounds despite  of the bigs of SMB, it was a hard earned victory for them and they deserve their first championship of their franchise.

Just getting curious with kabayang bisdak reply I also check it online and according to that same post you shared it is the first one for Meralco to win a PBA title, and for me, winning it during the All-filipino cup is a sweetest one, that means a lot since that there are few teams who are exchanging the title.

And now that they already have one, they just need to add good import to reinforce them, they've got the talents and the chemistries, just need to keep that same squad and keep improving, they might win more if they continue playing like this, a squad who lean with each other on both thier offense and defense.

Just to give some news that coach Vanguardia has been hired by the Atlanta Hawks to be part of the coaching staff for their NBA Summer League.
Wow, we've got world class coaches and we all knew that Jimmy Alapag is with the Sacramento Kings. So, we might not have players yet that will play in the NBA but we've got coaches to be part of any team's coaching staff there.
That's a good news for our Local coaches, and that could be a great exposure for them.
We have a world class coaches as well, and no wonder if they are able to get a job in NBA teams considering their experiences as well.
That means that they're good to get hired with these teams. I hope that more and more coaches to get these kinds of opportunities. And of course our hope to have a fully blooded pinoy to get into the NBA is still the dream but this might just be the doors that will open for them.

I just hope that they will come back here and use their experience to help the local teams be better not just in PBA but also in international league.
The contract might just be for the summer league and that's why he'll back but it's best to get more opportunities there.

Congratulations to Meralco Bolts for winning the season 48 Philippine Cup. Wow, that's a long history for them before winning a title. For 14 years, they have to be too patient with that and never gave up. I thought that it's gonna be a game of SMB and we'd see a 7 but it didn't.
That last shot of Newsome really made the team proud of their own. I remember him being there for the Gilas on the bench even if he's not part of the roster, now, he deserves to be there. I guess that everyone is going to agree or was he already included?

I didn't celebrated at all, I'm not a fan and even I am a fan it's going to be just another normal day for me. I'm not a die hard fan at all unlike the others that does celebrate if their team wins. I don't know, I'm not just like that kind of person that does it. And congratulations to you as you've won your bet that they will win the game 6. Along side with them, you're there and won with them.

Those who are risk takers for sure they follow the trend and manage to make money during the series but for those fans who loves supporting the heavy favorites, I guess the bookies suck their money, as for the entire series it was SMB who got the side for the favorite and those who pick Meralco's handicap manage to win.

It takes some for the season to rest hopefully whatever the plan for this upcoming season they'll bring something interesting for the fans.
