They will for sure going to give an underdog odds for our national team. It's because that the other national teams are way bigger and have got more known and notable players on their roster. But as we always believe for our national team, this is where the puso comes in.
And we've seen how they're able to upset China with the help of Brownlee. I hope that this team that we're proud of will qualify to the Olympics although in our minds that it's unlikely.

And that's where puso will demonstrate,  with the handwork that those players and coaches bringing in the table for sure we will see them competing with all they've got, though it's a tough assignment but fans will surely support the team,  as long as they are playing as one the intention is to make the country proud, there's no one aside from those bashers who we can't control 😉 that might seeing negative things about this formed squad but for fans like me I will expect something from the team, hopefully they will be able to make a remarkable games competing with those known superstars.
There's no doubt that our players are hardworking and great talented athletes. I'm currently watching the game and it's already on the 2nd quarter.
The game is very close with 7 minutes remaining, score of Turkey 26, Gilas Pilipinas 28. I hope that they win against Turkey.

Is this for real?

Converge FiberXers eyeing to tap former NBA Player Montrezl Harrell this coming Governors Cup conference as reinforcement.

Source: PBA Insider News

What do you think about this rumor? I think it will be so entertaining to watch with the monster Harrell be playing in the PBA this coming governors cup. I wonder how JMF would be able to stop him. Getting NBA players might help the league to gain interest from the viewers, so they should get some ex NBA players even if it's a bit costly.
While that is still a rumor, I won't be doubting Converge's financial capacity to hire him.

Howard is the one who create that noise showing interest playing inside PBA, not sure how reliable is that news but yup, if that move from converse will manifest I surely believe that it will gain interest from the fans, though that level of competition will create new impact with how team owners will produce their own reinforcements.

Though with that kind of actions, I guess both MVP and SMC will not let their team be an underdog as they've got the resources to pay a quality reinforcement making their teams more competitives.

As per winning chance, I do agree that our Nationals is the underdog but for sure they can give something decent in terms of competitiveness, with how they perform and how the system is being executed I guess we might bring pull an upset here hahaha, hoping and crossing my fingers for the National, JBL and the rest of the team PH will need to play harder, also, a good venue for our young stars to earn the attentions of the international fans.

I also eyeing for bookies to bring that odds I would be glad throwing some spares for team PH either handicap if available or ML.

I also eyeing for bookies to bring that odds I would be glad throwing some spares for team PH either handicap if available or ML.

They are not available yet, just checked with my bookie and could not find any odds on all upcoming games in this olympic qualifiers. I'm not thinking of the handicap here, I'd rather take a high risk and just bet on the moneyline, for sure the odds will be so high that would try to entice us, so I'm in.

As long as Justin Brownlee is there, I really like their chance as I haven't seen them losing to a team by a huge margin under Tim Cone's coaching job.
I guess we are all excited here, so let's help each other on update when the odds are possible and of course the streaming link as well once the game will will start.

We can always trust this guy as we didn't expect he would lead the team to give the Philippines a championship. Now, he is back and still playing the same or even better. It cannot be denied that Georgia and Latvia are both strong teams, as backed by their rankings, but it's also not impossible to beat them. Even though our roster is smaller, we have a big heart that is hungry for another win.

The odds for this game are not yet up since it's not an anticipated tournament, but a day or two before the first game, we will be able to see them on our favorite bookies. This is a worldwide competition, hence the interest of basketball fans is big.

I also think that the bookies might show their interest a day before or while the game is already ongoing, we all or if ever most of the pinoy fans relly love that addition of JBL, with him and coach Tim they bring that new level though every countries have their own versions of improvements but for sure we are also showing our own.

Those young talents, if they've not suffer to any major injuries, they might developed more improvements and playing together with that same goals, we will keep on that good competitors maybe not only in asia but possible also in the world cup.

The tune-up game against Taiwan was good—we won the game, and I think we are more competitive against Asian teams but not in worldwide competition. Still, I would like to wish the team good luck in their game this coming July 2.

That game could have been better if Dwight Howard and Cousins played for the Mustangs but nevertheless still it was a good tune-up game for our Gilas team. Against Latvia and Georgia, i don't expect them to win as those team that i mentioned are taller and more athletic than our Gilas team.

I hope that betting sites would cover those qualifying games next month.

Well, even Coach Tim Cone himself already said that they aren't ready for OQT yet. LINK

No. Not at all. I don't expect to be ready at this point. We're not ready—that's why we're still practicing and playing friendlies so we could get ready.
It's good that they have a friendly match-up with top 15 Poland and top 24 Turkey, to at least increase the chemistry of the whole team. TBH, I want to believe that our Gilas Pilipinas team has a chance to defeat either one of them, but it's hard to think who will be the one. I mean you already said that they are way taller and athletic than our roster. Add also the fact that both of them have NBA players is also a reason why I don't see our team winning.

Overall, I guess let's just wait for how our team will perform against both the Latvia and Geogia. Smiley

Chot is a good coach before but the problem is he didn't improve his style and adopt the changes of basketball thru the years. He keeps using his methods which is not working now on international scene. He's movement is predictable that's why he lost a lot and that has been taken advantage by their opponent. While Coach Tim enjoys a lot of success since he's plays and rotation is really working which bring them positive result and approach to Filipino basketball fans.
I agree, I won't discredit his coaching style in the past because it works. But the meta for basketball also changes and it's even harder when they're playing with international teams. He's not willing to cooperate with other coaches that has a better isolation and strategy against the international teams that the Gilas will play against. It's good that Coach Tim Cone was the one chosen on this. Although there is still remaining some politics on it about Bollick that should be there, Abando and other strong group players. There's no problem with the SGA because they're willing to let their players play for the national team, but it is "long hair" that doesn't want to play these good players in the team because they've got their own players.

True, there's still politics inside though the selected players are deserved to be on the list as per my opinion but we can't remove that fact that there are fans who wanted to see their idols playing also for the national team, coach Tim can't accommodate them all as he needed to bring selected players and for that there's always a long hair person who might influence him in deciding who's going to be there for the team,  sad but true.
Coach Tim Cone is just there to coach the team but about who's coming in and not to the team's roster, it's out of his scope because the long hair man is the one that manages it. That's a team and management effort and they have the guts to do that because they're the one who's sponsoring the entire national team, I mean that very company that we all know. Well, good job to the tune up game of the Gilas' roster against the Mustangs.

Well, he is the coach so he makes the decision on which players he would want to be in the roster. I think there's no need to question that especially now that are at the right path, as long as we are winning, we need to entrust that decision making to him and he knows best, there's probably some bias, but who cares, our goal is to win and coach Tim Cone have given that to us.

The lineup is perfect; they have good chemistry among the group, and that's the recipe for success. In the coming Olympic qualifier, this will be much harder than the previous competitions Gilas has joined. Winning a game would be a huge success, but it's hard to expect much against the giants in the same bracket as the Philippines.

The tune-up game against Taiwan was good—we won the game, and I think we are more competitive against Asian teams but not in worldwide competition. Still, I would like to wish the team good luck in their game this coming July 2.

For sure there is a proper scouting happen before they officially announce their rooster and maybe there's less politics happen there but everything is manageable since Gilas still a strong team.

Their latest win agains Taiwan indicates that Gilas is ready for the qualifiers so lets hope that we can see a good performance and chemistry since they need to win. They manage to get a good win against that ball club and we see that they are all in good condition. Although the challenge is so tough knowing that there's a lot of good team that also eager to win because they want to advance and get good placement. So let see on how far Gilas will go on this and if they win for sure all pinoy basketball fans will celebrate.

That was the only friendly games of Gilas before the qualifiers as they leave for Europe today according to the news.

Gilas leaves for Olympic qualifiers in high spirits after win vs Mustangs

The schedule will start in July 2.

Quote
Four Olympic Qualifying Tournaments are set to take place from July 2 to July 7. Four hosting countries include Greece (Piraeus), Latvia (Riga), Puerto Rico (San Juan), and Spain (Valencia).

So Gilas will have time to trained before their first game, and I hope they'll be able to really find a strategy to use on how to compete against a stronger team. China was a strong team as well, there are a lot of tall players but they were able to beat them, if there will be a miracle again like Brownlee doing his thing, then I guess we might see a big upset.

Both teams are different as Coach Chot is full of criticism while Coach Tim Coach enjoys the opposite.
Imagine the kind of success he brought to the Philippines, when he assumed as the head coach, he was able to give the Philippines a championship in the Asian Games. it's still fresh in my mind and I'm very proud watching them that time.

Heres's the highlights so we can see it again Philippines vs. Jordan gold medal game highlights | 19th Asian Games

But we can't deny that before Chot Reyes bring an honor for Philippines basketball team so I guess fans should not remember that. Instead criticizing him maybe people still need to applause on past achievement he gets. I understand the frustration of people about his Gilas stints since there's really need a replacement since Gilas performance is declining  and its good that there are changes happen since we see that Gilas became so good at current coaching staff handling them.

He looked bad because after he stepped down, Coach Tim Cone brought a championship to the Philippine team. We will never forget what he did in the past because he was able to bring a championship as well when Gilas defeated China in the FIBA Asia IIRC, but fans wants some consistency, and it's business so I guess it's just right that he leave because the current Gilas team are a much improved team.

Have you noticed, no more Ravena brothers to the team anymore? There two were also criticized, I don't know the reasons but it seems like the fans doesn't like them.

I just finished watching the highlights of the Gilas vs Taiwan in a friendly match.

Here's the link for those who haven't watch the game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bf5zbUcXNao

JB is back, and he is a very good facilitator with 14 assists in the game but also scored double digit at the same time.
once again, the ball movement is very impressive for the team, they don't force shots, they look for an open man, as a result their effort paid off.

It's a win 74-64.

That's a good tune up team, Taiwan is where Cabagnot is playing currently, they are a strong team as well as Gilas were not able to dominate them although they won by a double digit. I like the current line up, no selfish plays and ISO, they just move the ball more with less dribble.

And this,

So the last time we were in the Olympic was 2015, but was even just a replacement to New Zealand, let's see if we will be back again.
https://www.espn.ph/basketball/story/_/id/31880180/looking-back-last-philippines-played-basketball-olympics

That was a long time ago, it's almost 10 years and now we are knocking on that door to be able to enter. I agree with what the above poster have mentioned, our chance in the qualifier is very slim because of the bracket that we are in, even against Georgia, we might struggle, but since Justin Brownlee is still our naturalize player, we just need to move the ball well and have to be consistent with our 3 point shooting.

Looking at the roster's match up, we would have a problem due to size difference, but you know, we Filipinos have this "PUSO" which will lead us to  a possible victory in the game.

If we look at the last 5 games of Georgia, they only won 1 out of 5, while the Philipines have won 4 of 5.

So I'm giving it to you to analyze if we do really have a good chance.

I'm pretty sure that "PUSO" is not only the surviving factor here but the executions of plays coming from coach Tim not to drag coach Puso Reyes here but the two got their differences,
Both teams are different as Coach Chot is full of criticism while Coach Tim Coach enjoys the opposite.
