Coincidence that it happened while there is an on-going rumor about him placing on trade.

Maybe personal matters? He's now on 31 years old and taking a break is not a good idea. If that hiatus will take a long period, there is no assurance that some teams will still have an interest in him once he decided to play again as he will now enter the veteran tier. But the good thing in PBA, there's no such thing as oldies and we see players even at around 40 still playing at the league with a good role.

Well, that's his choice. Whatever the reason, fans should just understand it.

Greg Slaughter takes break from basketball

Another not so good news for basketball fans in the Philippines specially the Cebuanos who are following the career's of these two gentle giants.

Greg Slaughter taking a break in the PBA? What happen? Personally, i think this year could be his year as JMF15 is out and he could dominate in the middle.

Is this part of the plan of SMB on having Cstand on the Gin Kings?

Your thought guys....

It's possible that it's part of the plan, SMB management are aiming for CStand being transferred to GSM with this move from Greg chance
to need big man to replace him gives high chance for CStand. It's interesting if after this break some big news about this rumor transferred
will materialized.

I think this is the reason why he formulated a rule like this. To be honest, the PBA right now isn't the same in the past where there are many audiences who would like to watch their favorite teams in live. If you are watching PBA, there are some games where the audiences are close to none and only a few games has many audiences. This is because of lack of competition. Some are saying that PBA right now is predictable already because the winning teams are just the same. SMB, Ginebra, Magnolia (Former Purefoods). Other teams doesn't have the chance to win a championship and this makes the league boring to watch for me.

I also agree with the rule that the Commissioner has created but it must have to be adjusted in some ways that it will favor those rookies. And regarding to the video you shared, it is not what I watched but this video

That is what I think too. Ginebra win with this trade even though some said it was a fair trade.

We know how these 2 bigs played in their past teams. CStan is the starting center of NorthPort and he is playing like 40+ minutes per game and this is a young kid and he is at his prime. He will be a big key for the Ginebra and a possible Grand Slam for them this year.

On the other hand, I know how Coach Pido is when it regards to his players and I believe that Slaughter will be a good fit to their team since they don't have a legitimate Center right now. He will be given more minutes unlike when he is in Ginebra where he is just a bench. Now we will see his true potential in the upcoming Philippine Cup.

Anyway, lets see how will these 2 bigs play on the Philippine Cup. Smiley

NorthPort was suppose to be a good team in the all Filipino cup as they have C Stand and got Nabong back in the line up, however, their support from the young and aggressive players are still not available. I am talking about Jonathan Grey and Robert Bollick, these two are still recovering from an injury and they will not be available next conference.

Injuries nowadays are really making the PBA less exciting to watch, maybe because the commissioner allows a more physical play?
Because Philippine basketball is popular for being physical that is why the management of PBA is allowing this kind of action that results into this more injuries nowadays.
But also you are right that excitement is lessen when our favorite players are not playing because of injuries.

I remember when the famous Player Robert Jaworzki is still playing more and more injured players are added in the names.and those are the days that fans wanted to see.

This is a physical sports so injury is really expected, they would not be paid a good contract or a salary if they are just playing soft basketball, NBA is soft, PBA is not because this is what fans are wanting to see and now slowly people loving PBA again.

PBA looks more entertaining when its more Physical, injuries happens but thanks to the more advantage medication now, players with serious injury can still come back. Grey and Bollick were both young but these young fellas are not afraid to attack the paint, shoot the bull with confidence so they definitely are a big lose for the next conference.

By the way, I'll attach the article for everyone to read : https://www.spin.ph/basketball/pba/robert-bolick-jonathan-grey-northport-injury-philippine-cup-a795-20200207?ref=feed_1_section

I have browsed youtube a while ago I have watched a video regarding the new rule that the Commissioner created and he said that "If a player will skip the PBA Draft for 2 consecutive seasons then the player will be ban permanently in the PBA. If a player is eligible already in PBA draft but he choose to skip to draft himself to be drafted for 2 consecutive years then he will receive a total ban from PBA.

Without any personal or serious reason for skipping on that, I agree with the new rule.

It should have no exception no matter how great or talented the player is. On the other hand, it's just applied to PBA so those players will still have a chance to be part of the national team for the international league or other local leagues.

I also agree that there should be a consideration. Maybe we can see the whole terms about this for us to discuss what should be those things that can be considered? Anyone with the link? I try to search for it but as we know PBA does have limited information showing the public the whole info of any rules.

We know that Thirdy Ravena chose not to be drafted last 2019 PBA draft for some reasons and he also commented on this saying that "There must be a considerations to this rule."

I've also read this topic in social media. Maybe the reason why Commissioner Marcial brought out and emphasized this rule because i think he saw just so many worthy candidates for the draft that skip, it's not only Ravena. The likes of Munson and Jason Brickman can make an impact on the PBA but they did not join the league yet. I have a feeling that those players intentionally skip the 2019 draft because of the "Gilas special draft", they don't want to play for the National team.

no comment on the first topic, I am not interested with Thirdy Ravena right now.

Second topic:
I just recently watched a video again on youtube and I saw that there is a trade that happened between NorthPort and Ginebra.
A trade consist of Greg Slaughter and their Rookie Jerick Balanza in exchange of Christian Standhardinger.
Do you think it is a fair trade between the 2 teams??

Any opinion with this?

This favors the Ginebra San Miguel, Standhardinger is still on his prime now while Slaughter might not be like his usual self, he is not earning much minutes with the Ginebra as they very predictable with him in the Floor. If they'll get C stand, they will become a good contender in the all Filipino cup, C stand and Japeth will be unstoppable in the inside and we know Standhardinger can run on fast plays, Slaughter can't.

I believe that the Commissioner has a valid reason why he has to do this rule change regarding this Draft pick.  He needs to keep the intensity of the PBA by continuously recruiting excellent Filipino players.  And talented players refusing to be drafted just because they do not want the team that will pick them is not being professional and will eventually weaken the very core of the Philippines Basketball League.  BTW, are you referring to this video?

I think it is a fair trade.  Trade between two teams happens if both teams see an advantage over it.  Probably each team saw a good use for the player in order to strengthen their own team.  Remember Basketball is not a one-man show and can't be won by one player alone.  One team can give up one of their best players to remove the possible conflict or overlapping skills on their team exchanging them to the player that can fill the gap or hole on their team.

This isn't something about money for him its about his love for Basketball.
That two would always go together, they are playing hard to get noticed and to get good contract, and Fajardo is the highest paid player in the PBA right now, so I am sure he already got a lot of money with his journey if he know how to save, but I don't want his journey to end like this, hopefully he will come back strong like the other players  in the NBA like Paul George and Derrick Rose.

but he will be suffering operation and i think this will take longer time of getting better again,as the team will surely not allowing Him to be Forced playing because he can do more action in future and not just this All Filipino Conference, there are lot of Games to Come for junMar.

And when he comes back, there is no assurance that he will be as confident as he was since usually when a player got injured, underdgo an operation, it will affect their confidence as they will be afraid to be injured again.

That is the bad thing about injuries.

It will not just hurt you physically but it will eat you up emotionally as you would always worry about how you move and how you play. As a player, you really need to hustle but we can't do anything when this happens but to pray that he can quickly get back to the court. As far as I know, this recovers at 4 to 6 months including rehab. Hope the Beermen can hold on while he's in there.

Fajardo suffers leg injury, out indefinitely

Ouch! What a bad news for the Beermen and its fans out there. Who's gonna replace him as their center knowing that CStand is traded already? Kelly Nabong? Arwin? It might work but not as strong as Abay could offer tho. Hmm, now I can smell that SMB will not bring home the bacon of this year's conference huh, what do you think guys? I say so because what I noticed is that SMB are more vulnerable when he is not around, the defense in the paint and rebounding of their tram is greatly affected without him.

Let's hope for Fajardo's fast recovery Sad.

Depends on him if how he will take this and if his desire to continue forcing himself to prove more, I guess with his achievements he doesn't need
to prove anything and he's also aging so after this operations he can either be back as healthy and good or he can also be there just to finish his
contract and enjoy his paychecks.
True Filipino will always be fighting no matter what. It is nothing compared to all the sacrifices of him and his team  to win the game. I know that he will be back again for his fans and for his passion in basketball. This isn't something about money for him its about his love for Basketball.

Is there any information about the full details of Fajardo's injury? What I see on some news sources do have the same content.

I hate to say this but SMB always gives few details regarding Fajardo's injury even in the past. They just said that its a leg injury with no specific medical term. In UAAP and NCAA, if there's an injury on their player, it was well-detailed and the time of possible recovery period was also mentioned.

Is this a coincidence that SMB is just protecting Fajardo not to play on the upcoming international league? FIBA Asia qualifiers will take place starting on February 20 and PH do have a match on that day while their second game is on 23rd.
They don't say much about when he will return but he is out indefinitely, here's some specific details that you might want to know.

SMB fans should just accept that Fajardo should be sitting out at least one conference to have him fully healthy at the next conference which is Commissioner's Cup. No need to be full force and trust their other players instead.

The remaining SMB players are still intact and I see that they also have a big chance to acquired the PH cup title. There is still a long time of preparation to cover Fajardo's loss and that time is enough to organize plays.

I'm seeing more playing time now for the veteran Billy Mamaril. Tautuaa and Russel can also fill the Center position. Arwind Santos is also a versatile player and can play post up at Power Forward position. Still, SMB has lots of options.

I think Fajardo will not be able to play at full health on the Commissioners Cup. I think he needs to come back to the final conference which is the Governors Cup.
