And the Finals is now set.  Magnolia didn't give Phoenix another chance as they finish the series in 4.

As per schedule, the first game will be tomorrow at 6:15 pm, this is quite early for a finals, so let's arrive home early to be able to watch this.
Betting lines are as follows;

SMB -1.5
Magnolia +1.5

over/under (no line yet).

This looks like a trap. I will not take it right away, if the line will move in favor of SMB like going to -3.5, then that would mean people are betting on SMB while will make Magnolia more attractive for the smart money. If the line turns out to be line that, I might take the moneyline for Magnolia, this is an early game, it will not favor the popular team. Just my thoughts though.  Smiley

This is the FINALS, Magnolia finished at the number 1 seed during the regular season, so it's hard to call it as a trap. However, that's your personal opinion so I might have to respect that. I guess we'll have to wait a bit, let's see if there's significant line movement so we can tell what's happening.

If I can't be confident with my pick, I think I will go on the total. As we all know, Magnolia loves to play pressure defense, so we are looking at another low scoring game here. Maybe I'll stick to that, quite safer than betting on the point spread.

Yes, there's no need to rush if you are betting Magnolia because the line are gonna move since it's expected that money will be going to SMB. It's easy to read the minds of the people. They will think that SMB will win easily since they swept the Ginebra Gin Kings who are the crowd favorite, while Magnolia had a hard time dispatching the young Phoenix Fuelmasters.

It's a mind game, what the public believe will not likely happen, just like what happen to the Phoenix vs Magnolia series, and of course the Ginebra vs SMB series which I'm sure no one expected that Ginebra will be swept. Game is probably be the deciding factor on how the series will go, and it's a very important game of the series. There's an NBA statistics for this stating that the winner of game 1 wins 69.7 percent of the time.

How often does the winner of Game 1 go on to win NBA Finals?
According to a story done by CBSnews.com last year, the winner of Game 1 of the NBA Finals has gone on to win the championship 69.7 percent of the time (53-23).

Since it's hard to find information about the PBA league about this, we will just use the PBA for reference.

In terms of Yap, it was his hope to play one more time wearing the same uniform where he create his legacy, hoping that magnolia will sign him for another contract and let him entertain the fans again, not sure if that's already finalized and if there's already a negotiation regarding to that, but it was his hope and he's really aiming for that opportunity,  the reason why he requested the release with rain or shine after his contract ends.

Let's see and wait if that will going to happen, but for now, let's wait for the finals and see who's going to win the title.
The rumor was there and it's likely that he will be taken by them but we'll have to wait for the final and official announcement. So while there's no official news about it, it will remain as a rumor. He's been seen on Japan and so people have thought that he'd sign on B League but we don't know yet.

I thought James Yap had already retired because there was this recent article I read.

CHICAGO - After approving his request to be released from the franchise, the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are giving James Yap the dream gift.

Yap's jersey No. 18 will be retired by the team, never again to be issued to future Rain or Shine players, head coach Yeng Guiao said in a telephone interview.
It is Rain or Shine's most recent team that he's ever played and that's like he'll be honored by retiring his jersey. But there's still a rumor that he'd play for another team.

So is it really possible to sign again with Magnolia and then retire his number in another team? I'm a bit confuse.
I am also confused but it's possible. He came from retirement before even going back to Rain or Shine so everything is possible as long as a team wants him like to be on the bench because no doubt that he's got a lot of fanbase.

Game 5 will start in less than 30 minutes.

The opening point spread is.

Magnolia -7.5 vs Phoenix +7.5,.. Currently it's down to 6.5
The total is 180.5 over/under

My bet is Magnolia -6.5 as I'm hoping that they will end the series tonight and that they'll be able to dominate the Phoenix for the first time. At least no more big come back from big deficit for Magnolia.

Same with you I'm also thinking of under as Magnolia needs to dominate Phoenix and not to let them to be more aggressive like what happened last game 3, they need to work with their defense where they are really good, they just need to rotate and use their every advantages to secure the win, let see what are the adjustments from both teams.

Fuelmaster will try to push this to a do-or-die game while Magnolia will try to finished it and have some rest before the finals.

It's a game of adjustment, Magnolia loss last game due to their huge mistakes, that would not happen again tonight, maybe if they'll lose but it will be a close game but they'll likely win here as they are more experience and more deserving to be in the Finals. Like what we have expected, Magnolia started with a 10-0 before Phoenix made their first bucket, but as we had witnessed in the past few games, no big lead is safe and there's still plenty of time left, so we can only guess now.

Quote
Since both are well rested, I'm expecting a highly defensive team, so it should go under 180.5.
Last 3 games outcome.

game 1 79-82
game 2 78-82
game 3 103-85

If this will be a close game then it will be a low scoring game.

And yes, it did a low scoring ball game, adjustments to counter each others tactics, but the experience and superiority of Magnolia comes out and finished the series, I like the defense and how they control the tempo of the game , a late rally in the 4th but time is no longer at their side, congrats to all those who entrust their money for Magnolia's handicap together with those who go under.

Finals is on the way, sister team for winning title, let's see if how Magnolia will prepare for their defensive tactics against a well-known offensive arsenal of the Beermen!

Magnolia can't pull away, I hope this is not a de javu of game 3 so the series will be done tonight. End of first half, Magnolia made the Phoenix struggle on their shooting as they are now below 30%. Magnolia 49 - Phoenix 38.

No Ginebra in the finals but still there's the San Miguel Beermen that just swept them. And we're still waiting for the result of Magnolia and Phoenix Fuel Masters. I thought that it's gonna be a sweep too but let's see on the what ifs it is going to be Fuel Masters that will be making a history of doing a straigh 2 more wins. Otherwise, if they lose on Wednesday on the MOA arena against the Magnolia then that's it, it's going to be SMB and Magnolia at the grand finals.
I can't remember the last time these two met in the Finals, but I remember that Magnolia once became a champion. Although on paper it may seemed look like SMB is the heavy favorite, but things could be different in the FInals, just like how these Magnolia vs Phoenix has turned out to be. I hope there will be no sweep in the Finals, otherwise it will be a boring series. Magnolia is still capable though against a firepower Magnolia, if SMB have JMF, Magnolia also has Laput who is a 7 footer if I'm not mistaken.
Technically, they have a lot of championships as they've just been rebranded and renamed. I'm also hoping that there won't be any sweep that's going to happen because that's making every PBA fans especially the team fans exciting during the finals.
It would be boring if SMB will sweep Magnolia again. So let's not believe it will happen, finals should be fun and Magnolia is a number team for a reason. Now, it will be the game 4 of the remaining series, hopefully Magnolia will be able to end this series with an impressive win so they'll not be a heavy underdog in game 1, the betting balance is not good when that will happen.

And speaking of Magnolia, there's a rumor that James Yap is going to be taken away by the team again once this finals is done and they want them to see Yap end his career with them, retiring as a Magnolia since he really came from them before they rebrand from Purefoods and other franchise names.

I thought James Yap had already retired because there was this recent article I read.

That was a long time ago, over 5 years, maybe they'll get the championship this time but we never know since SMB is also a strong team. Sure enough, they will be the underdog, compared to the last time they won a championship.

SMB is a beast when it comes to a series games, they are very hard to defeat especially now that Fajardo is back healthy and their import is very talented and his style of play complements that of Fajardo's plays. But before we talk about Magnolia facing SMB in the finals, let them survive the hurdle first as Phoenix i think had the momentum of the series. I'll be backing the Fuel Masters this game 4 as the Hotshots failed to cover the spread on their two wins against Phoenix.

]I'm rooting for Ginebra to win this game 3 so that this series will be extended but as of now, the Beermen is leading 8 points, hope the Kings will come back and win this game just like what Phoenix did in the first game.

It looks good until Malonzo got injured, and it looks like he is not coming back anymore. But there's still time though, so good luck with your bet mate.
They are in the last quarter now, they need win that quarter in order to extend the series.

San Miguel just won this series and will proceed to the finals. It's something that I expected but not Ginebra never posting a single point in the run. I also rooted for Ginebra but man, their defense is so bad and their rotations are just read by SMB like a book. 94-91 is as close as it gets, but I felt like Ginebra could have snatched the win there if they mixed things up and played more offensively.

They only used short rotations unlike the SMB who has used a lot of players to minimize the minutes of the starters, and the good thing with the SMB is that whoever they'll put on the 2nd unit always makes a contribution. SMB deserve to be in the finals after quite some time, they struggled before when Fajardo wasn't healthy, he miss a lot of games but now he is back and very confident, it will be another MVP award coming for him.

With the way they rotate the players SMB is really tough to beat, like what you just said even the 2nd unit can contribute and can give decent minutes for the starters, plus the import who understand his role and he's very capable to adjust with who's he's playing with, I like the way he play the not that ballhog but more on a team play knowing that whoever sorrounds him can contribute both offense and defense.

Let see if how they will going to perform during the finals, whoever team the team that will advance, both Mags and fuelmaster are deserving but only one can move forward.

They have a chance this conference if they will finish the Phoenix in game 4. Magnolia is more on hussle plays but they don't have great outside shooters unlike SMB, so based on my analysis, they'll unlikely to win in the Finals. Although we can say that Magnolia also has bigs, but Fajardo is well experience and IMO still the best player in the PBA (local), and their import is blending well on their system as you can see he doesn't force his shots, everything went according to their plays that's why their offense looks very effective.
