COLUMN: Tim Cone is SBP choice to be permanent Gilas coach

Quote
CHICAGO - Sometime next week, when all the wrinkles are smoothened, the Samahang Basketbol Ng Pilipinas (SBP) will announce a new head coach to lead Gilas Pilipinas through the next Fiba cycle.

Tim Cone, multiple sources told me, is the chosen one. Once he formally assumes the position, Cone will also be given the free hand to pick a team manager to replace the retired Butch Antonio.

There's nothing to worry now because it was alreay named that Tim Cone is the permanent head coach of the Gilas Pilipinas. We can be confident that our team will be more competitive in the long run, great news for the basketball community here.

Great news! I so loved it. Tim Cone will have a bigger responsibility but since he proved himself to be a worthy coach, the support of the Filipinos is expected to be 100%. No matter what trials he'll encounter with the team, people will never forget that he was a big reason why Gilas won gold during Asian game.

Maybe no more politics in the Gilas, no more favoritism and only those who are capable of making a good team will join. However, we have no idea yet as to when would Brownlee will come back, I believe he was sanction due to the substance seen during the test.

This is a good decision cause we all know once timcone is in the position we can see a good progress not just in the team performances but the progress of selecting good players that can contribute very well in the game. And we all know how good coach Tim is he can build trust, confidence and chemistry for his players to him so that's the advantages of gillas nowadays if coach timcone will handled. Also he has a good strategy on his plays and he will use all his players to have a chance to contribute Their Best.

Unfortunately TNT loss, it turns out that the high handicap for them was just a trapped. At the first quarter, TNT were able to compete with the energy of Magnolia, but they don't have the consistency unlike the Magnolia who are still relentless with their defense. It was a very physical game, even RHJ struggled due to the suffucating defense employed to him. It's just that Magnolia played strong defense and good ball movement, and the lack of good point guard has been a problem for TNT resulting to more turnovers than usual.

Magnolia -8.5 won, (FINAL SCORE 109-94).

What an exciting game between Meralco and Fuelmasters.

Currently in a triple overtime now, both team wants to win so it's a very close game. I'm having fun now, but if you are a bettor, you will certainly enjoy watching it if you are in the side of Fuelmasters as they have +4.5 handicap during pre-game.

Edit : looks like Meralco already have a 6 points lead now with less than 4 minutes left.

You have to admit, these unreal comebacks in almost every PBA game smell very fishy.

FM was leading for over 47 minutes straight , by 15 points in the last quarter and then suddenly they fall apart. Last possession by Meralco being down by 3 points and 10sec to go and FM doesn't foul, let them shoot the 3 for the tie and after it of course can't make the game winner .

1st OT, starting 5:0 and tied at the end to miss the game winner
2nd OT leading again just to get tied and miss the game winner for the 3rd straight time  Roll Eyes
3rd OT, they finally totally fall apart starting 0:10, just as expected. Shameful.

This is PBA it its' s best (worst).

Something that really missing is the experience they can foul and let meralco to shot the ft then gamble for the rebound just in case meralco will try missing the  last shot, it's really annoying that the coach allow that 3point  shot and let the game to OT, personally it's something that might lead me any doubt that the game was been manipulated its just the maturity of the coaches and how they will handle pressure like this, it's almost a win for FM just so happened that they are not well equip in terms of finishing the kind of situation that they've encountered against the bolts.

I don't see anything fishy here. Maybe it's fishy if you are on the losing side, kidding.

Well, honestly, there have been rumors that PBA are rigged, it's not about the refs alone but the rigged, but in this game, I think FM have all the chance to win the game. The 2nd OT was suppose to be a win by FM but their import which is not a good FT shooter missed both FT, so the score was tied and luckily Meralco didn't make the game winning shot.

All I can say is that the game is fun to watch, it looks unreal but it is what it is. If you are a gambler,  just be at the right side (of the rigged). Smiley

With how bookie is providing both handicap and ML it seems that those who are in favor for TNT will get something decently, it's a matter of how good you are in assessing the possibility and how good your trust with the team you are aiming to win, though we all know that PBA is PBA and the outcome always have that doubt behind hahaha..
I like this kind of thinking. Maybe by now, bettors are already risking their money on TNT moneyline and handicap, it's pretty obvious that this kind of line will attrack the crowd. I hope this isn't a trap, because pesonally, I'm also attracted and I'm ready to ride with what the majority are thinking here.

I mean just place your money where you think your heart is showing you, the rest, just forget about your bet and consider it as a loss so you won't expect that much and the reward just in case is just a bonus for trusting the team that you think will win..

Just for fun why not. But before that, I think we should also look at the first game. Meralco is -5 against FuelMaster, the team that beat them just few days ago, I think Meralco is quite overrated and we might see the same outcome.

Indeed, and thtat's the reason why I keep saying that Magnolia needs to finished it in their first game to avoid that pressure and secure their position in the next round. But, not going to be easy and for sure there are different views regarding to who's going to win the first game.. Good luck mga kabayan!

So this will be tomorrow, right?

Let me check the betting odds. What we have here is the Hotshots at -8.5 against TNT? Is there something wrong with the odds? I just can't believe that TNT was underestimated like this, I mean Hotspots are good but TNT aren't that bad, plus they came from a huge win.

I think I should take TNT at 2.98 this early.

There's a slight line movement, Magnolia is now -7.5. Judging on the line, i don't see it a significant movement as it's still high IMO. So the play here is still the TNT since Magnolia if they lose, they will not be eliminated due to the twice to beat advantage.

I don't know what bookie you are using to only get 2.98 because currently in my boo it's 3.35 for TNT moneyline.

I go with Castro in this kind of crucial situation the man don't need to prove anything as he's jsut showing it in each crucial game that they are facing, and with Poguy start to play back, productions from TNT locals can really help RHJ, having someone who can also produce decent number in terms of scoring will give him some rest in taking more shots, that part can be fill by both Poguy and Castro.
Unfortunately we have no idea if Castro will play because he miss last game, it was a very important game as they will not qualify if they lose. So I don't know if he is available this game, but regardless, I think the current line up is still competitive and could certainly give Magnolia a real challenge.

Import to import, it's gonna be a good game, and yeah TNT has the edge in that area.

That's how coach Jolas was been build to continue being competitve and utilize whatever he got in his bench, we don't know how and what will be the the attack that TNT will going to use to survive the first game and force Magnolia to have a do-or-die game, it's all going to depend from how both team will come up and execute their own game play.

Just the same with your assessment, it's tough to conclude the outcome but for Magnolia it's a big threat facing TNT to move forward even they've got the twice to beat advantage.

The edge is on Magnolia here, they are well rested and they are on a twice to beat advantage, but first game is very important, because if TNT wins, the momentum will shift.

TNT won tonight, and they are now qualified in the quarter finals.

RHJ their import is leading the team with 35 points with his very high shooting percentage with 17-23. It looks so easy on him, I think he is better than his brother has he had a smooth release and he doesn't force things trying to drive the ball even if the defense is waiting inside.

And Pogoy was back in this game, played 20 minutes and contributed 11 points, not bad. I think this team is ready for the QF, they are on a twice to beat disadvantage but we can never tell. On their first game vs Magnolia, I'm sure I'm betting with the TNT.

FINAL SCORE 116-96 (https://pba.ph/playbyplay)
Interesting to see if how magnolia will prepare for RHJ with his smooth type of a game, he can easily create his shots and have a decent accuracy,  unlike with his brother where it's an anticipated strong attack  to the basket. Though Poguy is back and we know what  he can contribute but giving TNT a chance in a twice to beat advantage I guess magnolia will be in a crucial side, much better to finished the series if they can in game 1 else, they might be eliminated by TNT.

I guess TNT here just need to take it one step at a time, a win in the first game, then do or die in the 2nd game. With their current line up, I think they are good enough to compete with the number 1 team. Import vs Import, TNT has the edge IMO, but as to locals, I think it belonged to Magnolia. So personally, I find this game interesting and I believe it's unpredictable on who will win in the quarter finals.

I'm wondering if Jason Castro could play, TNT need him in situations like this, the experience of being a good play maker is very crucial  for the team. So hopefully he will be available this coming Wednesday.

I think I'm gonna stick with the ROS, they are playing well and they have a good standing that could make them qualify in the quarter Finals.
On the 2nd game, I'm gonna be betting on the underdog which I'm sure it will be the Phoenix, betting on the handicap here.

This is a non bearing game I guess as a win here by ROS will not give them a twice to beat advantage. So with that, I have the Converge here who are still looking for another win after this losing streak, they only 1 win this season, at least make it 2 before it closes. Thus far, nothing extraordinary is happening, it's still a close contest in the 1st quarter.

You almost got the "W". Smiley

The ROS team choked in the 4th quarter, despite having a comfortable lead to cover the -6.5 spread. They played recklessly, allowing multiple three-point shots from Converge. Fortunately, the last shot didn't go in due to a turnover, avoiding a potential upset. I'm sorry about your bet; perhaps taking the handicap would have been a safer choice. Nevertheless, Great job to your courage in making the bet.

Did not manage to watch the game but things like this is no longer new to this league, thinking that you are safe to go as the lead in the last few minutes of the game is almost decent enough to almost conclude your handicap but things suddenly change when the dominating team allows the opposing team to rally back and keep on scoring.

Like what you said, handicap for the underdog is currently the trend here, that pattern might be on the radar of most bettors.
