I'm a big fan of Italy, I can't deny that I almost cried when Italy left the World Cup, besides Portugal also has CR7 and as you say it will probably be the last CR7 World Cup, and for Argentina with Messi too, also in this World Cup we have great stars of European football, I'm dying to see the group of death team that for me is Group E. Now there is something that does not add up to me or I have some ignorance about what will happen in this World Cup, because in the previous World Cups when the World Cup was held it was for the month of June, instead in this World Cup it will be for November.
Yup.. Group E is really tough. They have two of the strongest teams from UEFA - Spain and Germany. And then they have the strongest team from Asia - Japan. These three will be joined by the winner from Costa Rica vs New Zealand playoff (CONCACAF v OFC). Ideally Spain and Germany should progress from this group, but you can never discount Japan. On the other hand, the easiest group will be Group B. England will top the group and their opponents will be Iran, United States and winners from the last UEFA playoff.
Group E may be the hardest group in the world cup and understandably so because Germany has been drawn in the group with Spain. That is going to be the group of death literally but this is not undermining the strength of other groups though because every group in this competition seems to be very tough and can be dicey to predict. The game between Spain and Germany is certainly going to be a cracker and will determine how things will swing in that group.

As this might be the last World cup for both Messi and Ronaldo I think the expectation is high from both Argentina and Portugal. But obviously, they cannot do anything on their own and will obviously need the support of their team.

But, I have to say that it seems really highly unlikely that any of these two teams are going to win the World Cup and I am really sorry to say that.

The group is certainly an interesting one because everyone will be looking at Germany and Spain. both the teams have great football players and both the teams can entertain the viewers.

@Sithara007 Spain & Germany can be said favourites for sure, but over the year’s both teams have dropped their high standards, and if they wish to qualify for the next round then they’ll have to play like they used to before and only then they’ll be able to qualify. Also I’m expecting an upset in this group as I expect Germany and Spain to drop points, so when the tournament starters be careful because they both will definitely be dropping points.
I think that true with Spain and Germany lead on Group E but looks have potential for Germany will lead as 1st standing group, I think Spain is not enough potential on World Cup actually faced crucial central forward, except Alvaro Morata Spain not have any option central forward player and different with Germany have several option on central forward. But still speculative because Japan some time could make change result match and have potential between Germany and Japan will lead to next stage on E group.

It bother me seeing some countries not qualifying while some I expected not to perform well do make it up, though this is football game and its unpredictable but taking a look at Africa as a whole, a country like Nigeria shouldn't have messed up this golden opportunity to qualify but their loss to Ghana who has been deformed on several occasions is heartbreaking and by now they would have known were their lapses are. This year UEFA world cup in Qatar will be an eye opener for so many countries to sit up and play the real football game in the nearest future.

The 2022 world cup will soon take place, group E will be populated by Germany, Spain, Costa Rica and Japan, it can be said that Spain and Germany are countries that have won the world cup title, while Costa Rica and Japan are only complements in group E, it is certain Germany and Spain qualify for the next round. According to my prediction, Germany will come out as group winner this year, while Spain will be the runner-up in Group E.
Germany looks good in your eyes to come top of that group but remember Spain is a very strong team and Japan too have been a strong team appearing in world cup seven times and the first being in 1998 although they did badly that year but they have also grown with experience. Costa Rica too have appeared at the world cup five times, so I think despite that Germany looks good but the teams there are not just fresh or new countries to the world cup, anything can happen. If Germany is eliminated from the group stage, it won't be the first time obviously.
I do believe that Spain could be good, or Japan could be good which I doubt, but Germany is not just good, they are also very good at playing together as well. Most national teams do not play that well, they usually end up losing because they lack chemistry and that is the main problem for most of them, however Germany doesn't have that. They built a great system and that usually ends with them being better and better each year.

Even if some players are replaced by younger generation, since the system is there already and everyone is used to it, that rarely becomes a problem. Other national teams usually do not have that kind of chemistry in general.

I agree with you, this could be a factor that is underestimated at the moment. However, the games will be played in November and December, so will see like what, maybe 25-35°C in the day?
For Europeans this will need some time to get accustomed to coming from late autumn in Europe, but it is not so unusual for European teams either, that regularly see such temperatures in the European summer.

The quotes are definitely tempting if you favor Cameroon!  Smiley

The last qualification games will be played in June in Qatar, I expect the weather here to have some more effect.

It was for this reason that the world championship was scheduled for November/December and not for the summer.
Players who come from Europe will have to adapt to temperatures, schedules, and the fact that they are in the middle of a season at their clubs.

Will we see "smaller" countries in football at this World Cup having great performances?

I was just checking if it's already possible to bet on the games and swa the quotes for Switzerland vs Cameroon: 1.75/3.5/5.0
So the bookmakers expect a win of Switzerland by more than 50%. If Cameroon loses only 1 game against Switzerland and Serbia, they won't be able to reach the 2nd rank.
I do wonder if the climate will play a part. It's quite extreme, and not really what we're used to in a world cup. I know of course that as a concession to the climate, it's being played in what passes for the winter... but still, it's quite possible that teams from colder nations might struggle more than we'd expect. More from a style-of-play perspective than anything else - England for example is a fairly cold country and the premier league is often played at quite a frenetic pace, which might not suit the English players in Qatar. I do think we might see some big surprises. I'd be half-tempted to bet on Cameroon to beat the Swiss.

I have a feeling that Spain and Germany will finish with equal number of points, and in the end the goal difference will be the deciding factor to determine which one of these teams finish at the no.1 position. There is only a remote possibility that either Japan or the playoff winner (Costa Rica vs New Zealand) will progress from this group. In that case, either Spain or Germany will fail to qualify for the second round, which will be another tragedy. But upsets of this magnitude has happened in FIFA world cup before, and we can't completely discount such a possibility.

I'm tipping on Brazil and Cameroon to come out from that group. We already know that Brazil is suppose to lead the group and the second team is what will be contested, the Serbia and Switzerland team are not very much a threat to over run Cameroon. So maybe Cameroon will go all out with African stamina and strength. I hope Samuel ETO will still be their coach.
While Serbia and Switzerland are surely no A-class teams they have both shown in the past that they can cause a lot of trouble to even the best world-class teams such as Brazil. I wouldn't be too surprised if at least one of them is able to draw against Brazil.
Cameroon will need to bring their very best performance and a good portion of luck to be able to come out 2nd in this group.

These are old stereotypes that are outdated more than 15-20 years ago. Most of the players in the Brazilian national team are a product of the European school of football (I mean their final formation and not football youth) and they play in Europe so discipline is the norm for them. Team games are always a certain randomness (and there can be only one champion), so it is wrong to draw conclusions based on one championship. I think that Brazil will be one of the main favorites to win the tournament, even though the World Cup will be held at the geographic longitude of Europe and fans of statistics understand what this means.
Because based on that we see and make predictions, mathematically Brazil has great and talented players, but the traditional playing style has long been abandoned, now the football playing style is very different from before, so many countries also have mainstays or star players, but Talking about readiness and mentality, Brazil is one of the clubs to be reckoned with

In times of globalization, no "traditional" styles of play or those that are very different from the mainstream can exist (or, let's say, give results). Most of the players taking part in the World Championship play in Europe and after the group stage from the playoff stage to the stage this percentage will only increase. All teams actually play about the same football, but due to the very different composition of performers they choose different strategies and undoubtedly Brazil is one of those teams that can choose any strategy because they have a great selection of players.

I think, Brazil will be easily qualified for next round. Because Brazil is very strong team their group.Brazil have some star player who Chang the game.If Serbia,Switzerland and Cameroon have strong team but i hope Brazil will win all matches in group stage.I think European team is dangerous for any American team.
Brazil is a team that has the best soccer star squad of all time, there are many professional players who have extraordinary skills, this samba team has a myriad of achievements in the international football scene, but in football this is not always a guarantee, that they will come out as champions, Serbia, Switzerland and Cameroon have developed in the world of football, they also have a solid team at the moment, although the experience of the three teams is much different from Brazil, but in football anything can happen, strategy, players and coaches can change the conditions of the game, it's interesting for us to wait for how the game goes
Every football fan can attest to the fact that Brazil is the best country in football both historically and even at present, there is no one greater than them. In that world cup group, Brazil is easily the favorite, Serbia is a little stronger than Switzerland but I would favor Cameroon because they are a more physical side and plays intense football.

It's quite funny how some club fans would hype and over hype thier favourite clubs with great hope that hey would go well, but at the end of match you would see them in different positions and mood.
You have said something here, anything can happen we just have to keep calm and watch what is going on while the match is in progress.
Too much faith, hope and determination my fans makes them end up in a different situation all together.
On the basis of consideration, experience and capacity of the players in the club, so that we can make a prediction, even though the reality of the prediction comes out of the actual result, this is a natural thing, because football matches can be predicted based on criteria, the final result obtained is work hard and a good strategy applied by the coach in playing on the field

It will be interesting to see, because most participating countries have players playing in championships that are in the middle of the season. Where before, usually at the end of a season and not in the middle of it.

Could this bring greater advantages to countries that have players in clubs where the season has already ended? Like for example Brazil or Argentina?

It will be interesting to see, although I think this decision could lead to lower game quality or less competitive games.

As an Italian, I can't care less about the following World Cup Grin.
The favorite is always France but anything can happen.

It will probably the last world cup for Cr7 and Messi.
Yeah the golden age of france would remain till the next world cup.

plenty world class player that still showing their masterpiece on the field, england had the bright future with their youngster... but that is never enough to win something especially a world cup. netherlands, brazil, argentina and portugal could always surprise us as well. we will see, it's get excited day by day .. of course not really exciting for the italians , unfortunately ;(
