I feel that I’m being bit harsh but I don’t see either sides as genuine contenders for lifting the World Cup, because they don’t play dominating football anymore and while they may cause an upset or two they definitely won’t win the World Cup.

Furthermore on paper these two sides should qualify from their group, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they had to struggle to qualify hence keep an eye on their form before deciding to wager on them.

I can definitely see any of those two teams in the quarter finals at least. Hard to predict who actually will end up winning the world cup though, as that requires a bit of luck as well.

Maybe we will see a South American final, Brazil vs Argentina, maybe The Netherlands ends up finally winning, maybe Cristiano Ronaldo surprises everyone, etc. Anything can happen.

Spain is good, but not as good as they once were around 2010. Then they became European champions, world champions and European champions again. They were almost unbeatable then. Only at the 2010 World Cup did they lose the opening match against Switzerland. They are certainly not favorites for the world title, but with a good draw and the right players in shape at the time of day, they can beat anyone. That was also seen some time ago when they crushed Germany. The group stage is going to be fun. Germany and Spain are together in the group and it seems to be a battle over who will be first, assuming that the other 2 countries will not play a significant role in this group.
That Spain team is probably one of the best national teams we have ever seen so it is natural they are not as strong as they once were, however they are competitive and they have a chance to win it all, however the fact they have to face Germany on the group phase is without a doubt a problem as Germany in a good day can beat them and they know it, also they will most likely have to face either Croatia or Belgium during the round of 16 and neither of those teams are easy to deal with.

At the moment, I think that both Spain and Germany are not as strong as expected and compared to previous years.
Both teams are going through a phase of player renewal, and they still haven't been able to find a balance point for this new generation.
But of course, as time goes by, they get better, and that's why until the Worlds, things can be different. Even so, I don't see these teams getting very far in the competition.

It will be interesting to see who will top the group. Because at some point (QF?) the winners of this group will probably play against Brazil. Anyway, the other two teams in the group (Japan and Costa Rica) should not be much of a worry for Spain. Their main target would be not to lose the match against Germany. A win would be better, but if that is not possible then even a draw will be good. In that case they just need to score enough goals to make sure that they top the group. IMO, Spain is having a higher probability compared to Germany.

That Germany vs Spain match will probably determine who wins the world cup.

I can easily see one of them ending up in the final and even winning it in the end.

Not sure where they would meet again if both keep winning their matches after both pass to the next stage, but it would be an interesting match to see happening.

Spain is placed in a very tough group, along with Germany and Japan. I don't know whether they will manage to finish ahead of the group. And even if they finish on top, the knockout matches are going to be very tough. In the next stage, they will be facing either Belgium or Croatia and both of them are very good teams. And next round is going to be even more tough, because in the Quarter-finals stage they will be facing Brazil in all probability. But Spain is in good form at this moment, and I have high hopes for them.

Yeah, E is a tough group, I agree. But I think Germany and Spain are going to pass into the next round.  At the end of the day those two are the only winners of previous world cups in that group.

It's definitely going to be an interesting group to watch though.

Apart from that all this can also be a pretty important lesson for Qatar if they are serious about football.
They are now a club that is not seeded in anything other than the advantage of their hosts, but in this case that doesn't mean they can't play but their quality is still below the average team competing in the current world cup.
Apart from this World Cup recently Qatar is doing good job for development of soccer because here government and few other soccer lovers invested good amount in clubs even few months back Xavi was also doing his duty as coach in a club with this you can imagine how they are serious and what they can do, but it's not easy job for any country it's going to take some time, and then they can do much better than current quality level.

Few other Middle East countries are also investing good amount for development of soccer like Saudi Arab and UAE which is good hopefully in next 10 to 15 years we can watch much improved these Asian teams specially from the Middle East could be neck to neck with Korea and Japan in quality because they can achieve these targets.
It's a good start as they plan this for the next few years but when it comes to the world cup it's clear it will only be a lesson for them that they still have to keep improving their squad because this is still lacking when it comes to world level.
For the Asian level, maybe this is very good because with them now of course they can still compete with big powers like Japan, Korea and Australia.

In the end they would probably have to beat Brazil to win the world cup, and that's going to be a difficult task.

And if they don't clash with Brazil, then they probably will meet Argentina, which is also an extremely difficult team to beat.

Even this is tough group and any team can done upset but still most chances we can expect Germany and Spain as two teams in knock out stage because by quality these are much better well organized teams from Costa Rica and Japan even now with experience these two can also do better performance but still it's not easy for them to stand against these two former World Champions.

Match between these two European teams could be interesting, and we have to wait for final result who is going to lead this group and same situation is happening in Group F where another two top European Teams are going to face Canada and Morocco.

Then they are having tough challenge from Group E winner and runner-up because for me most chances these four European teams are surely going to qualify for next round.

Spain was indeed quite victorious before in the world cup but in 2014 and 2018 Spain performance declined quite dramatically, thus making them helpless in several group stages and also the last 16, I think now Spain golden era may be repeated because indeed their squad filled with potential young players, in contrast to your view, I think Spain will again be one of the favorites to win the 2022 world cup later, moreover they are joined by a team that maybe only Germany will be able to make it difficult for them, while Japan and Costa Rica like you say maybe they will only be a complementary team this year.

Spain and Germany are both incredibly good teams, very balanced ones. It's hard for me to think who between those two would win in a match, as I can easily see either one of them winning.

I think anything that happened before the world cup won't be that important once the whistle starts the match...
Right now, Spain is surely incredible team and I agree with @Sithara007 they can win World Cup because they are well-balanced with quality performance in last few matches but about Germany they are decline in quality and performance with they need some time for adjusting with these new guys even Germany is always one of the best team in Europe but this time they are not good enough for win this event most chances they will reach in last 8.

But, Spain is surely have potential for reaching into last 2 because they are doing much better with consistency England, France and Spain are three teams from Europe those are capable of reaching into last 2 or even can win this year's event.

I disagree. Spain is a balanced team, and irrespective of the FIFA rankings, I would say that Spain is having a higher chance to win the world cup when compared to Germany. Check their recent form as well. They managed wins against Switzerland and Czech Republic in UEFA Nations League A. Also, they had a 5-0 win against Iceland in March. And now coming to Germany, I don't think that they have fully recovered from the 1-2 loss to North Macedonia. Their performance in the UEFA Nations League was also not very satisfactory.

also the odds spain are favoring over Germany even though it's not that big of a difference in odds but in their last matches I've seen that Germany are way better than Spain, and I don't know why but I can't see spain winning the world cup at all this year, they have a very basic team that can win some matches but not the world cup.

Here are the odds to win the cup in Qatar.

It is somewhat surprising that Argentina is suddenly estimated to be a lot higher, according to the bookmakers. I remember they were around 11 a while ago. What I also think is not right is that England is apparently also seen as one of the big favorites, while they have not shown anything at any World Cup for 30 years. They may have all the star players from City and Liverpool, but with Southgate as the coach, this is likely to be another complete failure. The Netherlands and Portugal are both very low, I think they should both be around 10.0.

It is obvious that they are not going to perform very well in the World Cup. The only reason they are playing in the actual World Cup is that they are hosting one. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have been able to actually qualify for the World Cup.

But now they have got themselves playing in the World Cup should be determined to prove a point which is to wait time until they can get better. I am not expecting any surprises but it would be better if they can perform well in the future of them.
this is the advantage of hosting the 2022 world cup, Qatar can play in world football sporting events with its team and of course they will present a serious and strategic game. Don't underestimate it because we also don't know how strong Qatar really is. Qatar are in Group A along with the national team of Ecuador, Senegal and the Netherlands. Qatar's top scorer is Mubarak Mustafa and is coached by Felix Sanchez Bas from Spain.

How are you so sure that Qatar can beat Ecuador easily especially Senegal, from FIFA rankings Senegal is ranked 18th and Qatar is ranked 49th. This difference shows a very significant difference, that statistically the players are of different quality.
I must admit that Qatar's football development has progressed quite significantly, they played well in the Asian tournament as well as in the Arab Cup competition, and Qatar is the champion of the AFC ASIAN CUP 2019, Qatar can overthrow Japan with a landslide score of 1-3.

Nevertheless, Qatar's chances of qualifying from the preliminary group stage are not easy. I'm not sure they can overthrow Senegal let alone the Netherlands.
we agree, there is no guarantee, anything can happen as long as the game runs 2×45 minutes. However, Ecuador is also not a weak team as we think, Ecuador can play Brazil with a draw, against Argentina with a draw. Ecuador remains to be reckoned with.
The main idea comes from the fact that Qatar wasn't ranked 49th and they were MUCH lower back in the day, I do not remember where but I wouldn't be shocked if I learn that one point they were 100+ ranked. So that means because they got much better, maybe twice as good as they used to be, or even better, that made people from Qatar or others have some sort of trust in them.

Doesn't mean that we would have to see something like that in the long run, doesn't mean they will beat Ecuador or Senegal, they will most probably lose, I would be willing to wager against them easily, but people who like them end up seeing that improvement and started to have some belief they are better than how they are normally.

It was the first time Qatar had the opportunity to open this match for the first time, but I think it's a natural thing when a football match is played somewhere for sure the first match is against the hosts and so on will be followed by other clubs. I think Qatar already knows this and accepts it whether it's a win or a loss. His biggest hope is to get a win and advance to the next round.
Apart from that all this can also be a pretty important lesson for Qatar if they are serious about football.
