One of the sponsors of the World Cup is Budweiser. They make an enormous amount of money by selling low cost yet high priced beer at the stadiums in every single World Cup.

I think they will somehow get to an agreement where they will sell beer at the stadiums. When the World Cup was in Brazil, FIFA literally had to talk to the politicians so that they change a law that banned the sale of alcohol in stadiums. My guess is that the same will happen here. They probably don't want to make this too public, but it will happen. There's just too much money involved.

Budweiser is a beer brand that is produced by Anheuser-Busch. I don't think that they are very concerned about the sales inside the stadiums. They spent a huge amount to become one of the official sponsors, and in return they want their brand name to be flashed everywhere in the media and the venues. Now this is a concern. I don't know whether the Qatari authorities would allow alcohol brands to be advertised inside the stadiums. If that is not allowed, then Anheuser-Busch should pull out of the sponsorship and sue FIFA for the damages.
That's is an important point how will beer be sold in public when there will be huge crowd there. Also there are so many other things which are banned in Islamic states. That's involve gambling too. I am sure Qatar is going to deal with all these things wisely but I am very much interested in knowing how they will do it.

I am sure that Qatar does not simply appear as an Arab country. They will definitely work with respect to foreign citizens and people of other religions. There may be a tournament in an Islamic country, but remember that this is a "World Cup", people from all over the world will come. We can be sure that Qatar will provide them with a lot of freedom.

Wishful thinking  Wink For all his shortcomings, Neymar is clearly a better leader than Messi, and Brazil is clearly a stronger team than Argentina. I do not think that Brazil will become champions (one of the European teams should become). As for England, I would say that they are in the position of Spain before they made the treble (two European Championships + World Cup in a row), I don’t know if they will be lucky this time, but the possibility of this cannot be ruled out.
I am not agreed with you about this here Neymar is never been better than Messi because he is mostly having issues which injuries and never give his best for Brazil he is far from Ronaldo and his other top ranked leaders with this all I am still positive about them in this world cup, but I am feeling Argentina is also having fair chance for this event because they are also in the best shape and their few players are capable to give their best in this event.

After having these two I am going with two European teams which are Germany and France because these two also performing consistently and having few quality players which are able to perform in this mega event no other team is near them, but upsets can happen which already have in past many times.

Maybe you misunderstood the word leader? I didn’t mean sports qualities, but purely personal ones - Neymar is clearly better than Messi simply because Messi began to somehow show leadership qualities in the national team only in recent years, before he was kind of on his own, he could never “rise the crowd”.
Yes, these four teams certainly have chances, but on the page earlier I gave a list of 9 teams that are quoted by bookmakers above all and it seems to me that any of them ultimately has about the same chance.

Recently remembered the 2014 World Cup, which was in Brazil... At that time, many people also assumed that the hosts would be the champions... But they were seriously disappointed when Germany humiliated Brazil with a dreadful score of 7-1 and became world champions... You can't rule out something like that this year...

The problem with betting on favorites is that many, like you, will bet massively on them and this will affect the bookies - the favorites will be quoted very little. Given that Brazil is not required to win every game in the group stage, and in the playoffs a team can, for example, win in extra time, it remains a big question whether the profit from betting on the favorites is worth the risk.

But that turns out to be the essence of betting.
Those who bet on a lesser favorite, despite a greater risk, are also where they will win more money if it is a correct bet. Big countries will always have a greater number of bets. But in the end you will only win one, so many will lose their bets.

I disagree that Brazil is not a strong contender, because if you look at their team I feel that they’re the favourites to lift the cup, and I’m planning to wager on them a lot. Lastly I don’t think that France will win after seeing their poor performance in the nations league, hence that’s one team I’m going to avoid wagering on unless they drastically improve their performances.

I don’t agree that Neymar is a better leader compared to Messi. But yes, I have to agree that Brazil is obviously stronger than Argentina.

If we are talking about winning the World Cup I don’t think Brazil or Argentina any of them are going to win the World Cup. The best chance of winning the World Cup is with France in my opinion. They have a squad that was absolutely stacked in the last World Cup as well and this time they have a similar type of squad if not better. So, I still think that Francis is the team that is going to take the World Cup home.
Qatar is neutral place for European and South Americans for having trophy this time last time we have World Cup at neutral place then Spain was winner at South Africa in 2010 and now its almost two decades European are dominating in this event with Brazil won in 2002 and Argentina lost final against Germany in 2014 with this all I have feeling most chances European are again going to dominate in this event with Germany and France both are very strong contenders and Brazil and Argentina can upset but still need some more time for having strong squads who can beat these European teams which are having improved quality and too many skilled players with Brazil and Argentina also having quality players, but they are not able to play as perfect units.
Indeed, sometimes Argentina and Brazil can't play solidly as a team, but considering they have good skills players it's possible that they will still go further in this tournament. I personally think that all big teams with star players still have a chance to win trophies, even more so for players like Messi and Ronaldo this may be the last World Cup he plays. With that motivation, of course, they will play very seriously, so whoever the team that wins the World Cup in this World Cup honestly cannot be determined which team will win it because all the teams this time have good preparations.

The World Cup hasn't even started yet... I'm sure the favourites may change after the group stage... There is no doubt that Brazil is a really good contender... But instead of England, it could easily be France, Belgium or Germany... No one can understand why the bookies are favouring England when they are not playing any better than the other top teams...

Yes, absolutely. And I would even include Spain in that list. Maybe even The Netherlands, they are so good.

But yeah, England... not sure about that one to be honest. I mean, sure, they will probably be OK, and pass to the second stage maybe, but... I don't think they'll win the World Cup.

Yeah, I agree.

That's insane, I would always put Brazil as the winner against England. There's just no way England can win against them.

I also still remember the "Hand of God" of Maradona in England vs Argentina.

I just think England doesn't get good results against South American teams.

Agreed on the similarity between Uruguay and Argentina. Although they speak Spanish now, the majority of the population in both the countries can trace their ancestry to Southern Italy (strong German component in Argentina as well). And as we know, Southern Italy is the powerhouse of football in Europe. The immigrants carried that culture to both Uruguay and Argentina when they migrated to that country more than a hundred years ago. But in terms of population, Uruguay is only around 1/10th of Argentina, and 1/50th of Brazil.

That's actually quite interesting.

Yes, Argentina and Uruguay both share Italian roots, so that explains why they might be very good as Italy.

But then you have Brazil, which has roots from Portugal, but Brazil is way better than Portugal!  Grin

This is a historical analysis, interesting without a doubt, but nothing related to the current quality of today's players.
Even because football appeared in almost all these countries at the same time, at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century. The first clubs in Portugal and Brazil appeared at practically the same time, for example. So there is no relationship between the two in terms of football style or popularity.

Yeah, I agree.

I would also even put Uruguay in there. They have at least the same amount of world cup trophies as Argentina. And they won 2 times more in "prehistoric" times  Grin

At the end of the day, Uruguay is very similar to Argentina in terms of culture, so it makes sense that they share the same passion for football, and mate.

They are the best, not "one of the best". Brazilians and Argentines are natural football champions. It is in their blood. No other confederation or country can claim this (maybe Italy and Spain to some extent). In terms of talent, these two countries are far ahead of their rivals in UEFA (other confederations are in this world cup just to make up the numbers). But the UEFA teams do have an advantage in terms of good infrastructure, training facilities and money power. On top of that, UEFA steals the best players from Africa.

of course Brazil haven't lost their credibility, they're still one of the best, I'm really surprised that people are favoring England over Brazil which sounds insane to me, but mostly the majority of people are wrong and lose in gambling, so I'm going with Brazil to win the world cup and turn the page of that bug loss against Germany.

England will have to play a lot better to become world champions. It may not say everything, but they lost 0-4 at home to Hungary last in the Nations League? I don't see countries like Brazil and France doing that anytime soon. And then also at home. I think England made a bad and strange choice with the appointment of Southgate as coach. Little experience and no big club trained. England is not just a country to coach. They should have asked someone else. Would Ferguson not be interested? I think this World Cup is going to be a huge disappointment for England.

Well... Brazil has already lost 7-0 in a game for the FIFA World Cup, it's something that every Brazilian like me would like to forget, but there's no way... it's something that will be forever marked in the minds of everyone who watched it. that shame.

Anyway, Brazilian football hasn't lost its credibility, I myself believe that the Brazilian team has many chances to win this world cup.
So, I also wouldn't take the merit of England because of a single game in which they were bad, that happens even with the best teams.

I don't think Brasil is the biggest favorite for this tournament but they are always in the discussion. They used to have more powerful squad but now they are mid team at best. Neymar is not the ideal leader, they are far away from real Ronaldo and then Ronaldinho era.
England never had an achievement for years, they always say maybe this time but it never happens. I'll probably stick with Argentina this time as I want Messi to finally lift the trophy before he retires.

If I compare Neymar to Messi, of course I have no doubts that Messi is better as a leader. Moreover, seeing Neymar's behavior at PSG is not good,
often seen living an unhealthy life and several times Neymar came to the training ground drunk. So it's only natural that now PSG's management
has decided to sell Neymar, because the current Neymar's performance and behavior is getting worse. So I believe Messi is better than Neymar,
so Messi in leading and motivating the Argentine national team can definitely do well.

Regarding the strength of Brazil and Argentina, they are almost the same, both countries have good players and play in many big European teams.
So comparing the two is a bit difficult for me, but if I had to choose I think Argentina is stronger than Brazil. I agree that the prediction for
the 2022 World Cup winner is probably not Brazil or Argentina, indeed so far France is the strongest candidate to win the 2022 World Cup trophy.
Apart from having a good squad, France also has a pretty solid teamwork in my opinion.
