I guess it's a good discussion while waiting for the regular season of the NBA. But it's a fact that there's less popular in the WNBA. I guess because of the idea that we've been stuck to the NBA and there's no gender preference issue on this.

Brittney Griner pretty much is in prison on Russian soil, but Biden has announced that he approved a prisoner swap with Brittney Griner and Paul Whelan with Viktor Bout but there are no further details about it,
Let's say the swap occurs, do you think that she'll be able to get back on track on the league?

I'm following WNBA before and even placed bets at some games. That's the time when I'm still at hype betting on basketball after the NBA Finals and my only options are WNBA and local basketball games. But it's been a year now that I don't have any updates regarding the league.

I'm glad that my favorite Becky Hammon of the New York Liberty before, was involved in NBA as an assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs for 8 seasons if I'm not mistaken. But this year, he won't be part of the Spurs coaching staff as she now shifts to other league.

Anyways, bookmarking this thread for any updates and for discussion purposes.

I haven't seen any thread here so I made one, well I think there are not many who wants to discuss the woman's NBA but it is worth the shot,
That's probably because nobody or less than 1% of the sports bettors in this forum gamble on their games. WNBA are not generating enough revenue year on year to sustain the operations and the last time I read anything significant about them was that they're able to raise millions early this year for a business model revamp.

As Bill Burr said so eloquently, the WNBA has been failed by women. Women aren’t supporting women’s sports the way men (or women) support men’s sports. This leads to a major difference in revenue and thus salaries for players. If women supported women’s sports more, maybe networks would start making a bigger deal about their games and people might eventually take an interest.
Yes that's one of the most common reason why the league is still struggling two decades after it was created. Talent or skills may be there as btc_angela said but I share other people's observation that it seems women are more interested in men's sports. Maybe the "Karen" supporters of WNBA demanding support from men in social media doesn't help either hehehe.

.....

That is very sad, I really think they need to consider when I watched the WNBA, it is likely not like the regular NBA but there are certain talents that you can not miss by watching them
Unfortunate as it may seem but that's the reality. Some men even compare watching WNBA to buying an inferior product. They would rather choose the best out there if they're going to spend their money.

Looks like the Biden administration might finally be bringing Brittany Griner home. They’re going to have to trade a convicted arms dealer serving a 25 year sentence for Griner, who once physically assaulted her wife and is now jailed in Russia for being caught with a controlled substance. This will no doubt be celebrated by the WNBA.

I am just exploring the WNBA and upon reviewing this Griner was detained in Russia because of an Illegal Substance on May 15, the USA and Russia have considered a prisoner swap Russia exchanging Griner for arms dealer Viktor Bout, and now on the date July 27, 2022, Joe Biden Approved for a possible Prison Swap this time for Brittney Griner  and Paul Whelan for Viktor Bout an arms dealer who has done 10 years on his 25 years life sentence,

I very rarely watch anything to do with the WNBA. I may hear a little local sports news about the Chicago Sky, and I think I’ve heard they’ve had relatively good success these past few years. I am curious, was Britney Griner on a team in the WNBA and just playing off-season over seas or ??

Well, pretty much many people are just not interested in women playing basketball, but I am, pretty much I am delighted with the games and Chicago Sky is the number 1 on the Eastern Conference, right now along with the Las Vegas Aces, in the Western Conference,

I think Ronda Rousey showed any female sport can blow up in popularity. They only need an athlete who can be a star to bring excitement and attention to the game.
Possibly. She went to Hollywood for a show and then Wrestling matches to gain popularity. Her agent might be good to keep track on what they will do next to up her market.
I watch WNBA just to be updated with stars but not with the whole roster unlike the NBA.
They badly need something that will pump their market up. It's been too long already and I still don't see any change. The worst thing is girls today which should've been supportive to them might be doing something else due to the pandemic (i.e. phones and computers) instead of liking the sport.

agreed, it still baffles me how some people are so eager to blame men for not being interested in women's category in sports. also, the funny thing is top athletes like Ronda Rousey knows what needs to be done in order to become high-paying athlete. if they want to be recognized by people they need to level up their game.

People want to see greatness. On some level, it makes them feel great.

Watching WNBA is more like watching unmotivated employees show up to a 9 to 5 job than it is something likely to garner mainstream attention. There isn't much excitement or urgency people can relate to. Which could be the norm as far as woman's sports go.

Even female boxing lacked good paydays until the Paul brothers began promoting Amanda Serrano. Before that happened, female boxers like Claressa Shields were transitioning to MMA due to the pay being better.

Actually I have been betting in the last couple of days.

But let me tell you something, it's really hard to predict the outcome of the game, lol. So I temporarily stop this 2 days because my record is not that good, (maybe 3 out 10)

So I have stir up, but the game is there, excitement, thrash talking. But the again, NBA is really very different.

Dream vs Lynx - won't even predict, as this is going to be very tough game.
