I suggest looking for altcoin that costs under $ 10 / likely with your budget. Now, I see a lot of interesting people on Bitcoin Diamond BCD, maybe you can enter your money into it, because I believe this currency will rise in good price in the future.
I think the good altcoins that you have to choose to earn a lot of money are in famous coin and should be that many investors are also buying so many people today.
Devide $500 to 5 parts and invest 100$ in 5 different new alts just come out to IDEX from "high" rated ICOs on icodrops and trading near ICO price. That coins have big chances to be listed on big Exchanges and make x2-x3 in near future

I think you should choose a long-term investment. I would buy Etherium and NEO, 500 dollars - this is not such a large amount, then divide it into several tokens.
For me $500 is a good amount of money and i think you should invest that on altcoins that is popular and always on top 20 alts on the market, and i think it is very good strategy to invest your money on nem and tron because there value can pump on short term. 
I would split this amount between NEO, ADA, Pchain, Quarkchain , Monero, Universa, Seele, NKN. Don't buy a lot of coins, but don't invest all in 1 shitcoin.
