I would invest all the money in Bitcoins. It's the most safe Crypto-Currency, the main one. Other currencies, even ETH, are just AltCoins created from Bitcoin source. Another option would be to invest biggest part of this money in BTC and a smallest part on ETH. In my opinion to hold Bitcoin on long term worth much more than ETH...

This is not a big amount, so you can divide it between Bitcoin and Ethereum. Both are the best crypto currencies right now and both have the best potential and the biggest communities. Making all the eggs in just one basket is more risky

Yes.If you want to inverse This much higher value of dollars means, you can choose the bitcoin. Because the value of bitcoin is now around 3900$.Soon it will crossed the value of 5000$.If so you can get very huge profit from that. You may split the value of dollars and keep in profitable Altcoin.

500 pounds is a low amount to spend on Bitcoin if you will use this amount for trading. For trading it is better if you buy Ether as with 500 pounds you will buy more than 1 Full Ether which you can use on almost every exchange to do trading. If you are thinking to invest for the long run, better buy bitcoin even low amounts and keep them in your wallet waiting together with many of us here when the price should go up and we will all be happy making some decent profits.

Just split your investment to avoid huge loss in case of bear market. Why put all eggs in single basket? Make a smart investment for better ROI but dont forget to do your homework.Dont invest amount which you cant afford to lose..
It is right because not only ether but the bitcoin is the best currency now it is good to invest in bitcoin if you have 500$ because after some time like as if after 6 or 8 months you will sell your bitcoin then you will get the high profit from it.  Now the price of the bitcoin is more than 4500$ so it is the chance to increase your income using bitcoin and the profit of the bitcoin will grow as the time passing.

From my point of view I will consider if that investment is worth the risk and if I can profit a lot from it. So I'm referring to bitcoin as the ultimate choice for cryptocurrency investments. Ethereum might be a good competition to btc but still it can't replace bitcoin on its place even with a smaller transaction fees is given. So just invest it all to bitcoin worth of £500.
If have more than that I will definitely invest them in bitcoin, because as we see the price of bitcoin is growing more and more although some time ago the price fell down to as low as 3000 dollars but it regain its value and now once again it is round about 4000 US dollars, and I am sure that in the near future it will cross the limit of 5000 dollars. Therefore for me investment in bitcoin is far better.

BTC is so high atm, ?500 wouldn't do much for me. Unless I put the initial ?500 in BTC and added ?100 per month to it?!! But what if the BTC price doubles in a short period that would mean my buy would be peanuts.

So confusing Smiley

I suggest you forget about bitcoin because of the capital and you are still considering splitting it further. You can equally make good profit from other coins, so research on promising coins.

Bitcoin price for now is high , so if you would choose between ethereum and bitcoin for you to buy you can choose ethereum more because its price have more room to develop and to experience growth. But if you have the the capacity to deal with both currency you could try to buy a portion of ethereum and bitcoin.

You may want to go with what you know. Bitcoin is money, that's easy. ETH are tokens for structuring smart contracts. If you are unable to create smart contracts then ether may not be a good idea because you may not know what you have.

For long term; I will recommend Bitcoin
For short term; go for ethereum.
Bitcoin could reach higher price than ethereum, even though ethereum could gain more value in % since its price is cheaper but will get dumped so often everytime eth reach certain point, that's why ethereum is a good option for short term investment.
As you've planned to put £100 per month, it will be great to purchase bitcoin to add into your wallet and wait for next year to see how much its growing.

I think you should wait for some time, there might be a major correction in the coming weeks - which has been already started. You can split your investment by 60 - 40 %; you can invest 60% in bitcoins and rest in ETH.

I'd recommend splitting your investment but if I had to pick one I would go for Ether, I think it has more potential for bigger gains.

i think in that value you can invest it on altcoin that running ICO, you can read the whitepaper and history and roadmap of that coin, if that coin interesting and you sure that will make profit you can invest on it, you can get some jackpot by that coin in shorter term than ether otr bitcoin

Hi All,

I have just over £500 to spend and I'm not sure where I should be investing this.

Do I buy a small fraction of a bitcoin or buy 2 ethers?

What would you do?

I'm looking for some long term investment.

Also, i'm hoping to contribute £100 per month towards either one but not sure which direction I should be taking.

Many Thanks
I'd recommend ETH for some reasons such that, the amount that you will invest is somewhat small and won't be making a profit that high unlike in ETH wherein its value is increasing faster than Bitcoin as of this moment. Also, ETH is usually used in ICOs so it will be more profitable as an investment with that amount.

I would go with ethereum over bitcoin but I would advise instead to split the 500 and invest maybe 300 in to ether and 200 in to bitcoin. I see Ether pushing up towards 1k within the next year and in the longer term it wouldn't surprise me to see it overtake bitcoin at some point.

I advise you to buy Ethereum. Ethereum has a cheaper price than bitcoin. and also the price of ethereum is always going up and we can get abundant profit.
Ethereum might be a good choice but you need to consider the level of volatility of ethereum compare to bitcoin and the stability of the price of ethereum compare to bitcoin. Bitcoin has a stronger and more stable market rather than ethereum and ethereum needs a lot of improvements and support in both community and market before it gets close for being a competitor for bitcoin.

This might go against the conventional grain here considering we are on BCTalk, but I would suggest going with Ether at the moment. It has so much potential words almost cannot describe it. Just take a second to consider the hundreds of new ICOs that are launching and currently ongoing and all of them rely on Ether (with the exception of a rare few on the Waves platform).

For me, I can say that bitcoin is more good in investment than all the altcoins. £500 is a enough money to start a long term investment in bitcoin. Bitcoin is very profitable so It is better to invest your money to the bitcoin.
That's right, before invest into any cryptocurrency on the market, you should spend your money to buy Bitcoin first. Because Bitcoin is the main pair and is the crypto you want to withdrawal your profit from here.
Though bitcoin has got different pairings with entire digital currency, it's good to invest into bitcoin as well diversify with the one that can be traded for bitcoin without much complications. Also if you are planning for a profit in a much lesser time period it's good to invest with ICO's.

Be more vigilant upon selecting on ICO's since there are so many coins made right now and I can't trust some of them right now And much better if we just invest on bitcoins if we are not sure for this things up and bitcoin can give us some immediate profit but we need to be active for watching its movement and buy whenever the price has dump and sell wherever it pumps.
