bitcoin is down to £2800, you reckon a nice time to invest the £500 now?

Depends on whether you are planning for short-term or long-term investment. If you are considering an investment of the latter type, then Bitcoins are perfectly safe. But regarding short-term investments, I have my doubts. There is a good chance that Bitcoin can go below £2,000 per coin in the short-term. So I would refrain from purchasing either BTC or ETH if I am considering short-term investment.

it's my opinion that you should split it between them, they're both poised to rise right now and are both poised to be rising for the next year at the very least regardless of what happens in the financial climate. if you have the spare money to invest invest immediately and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a diverse portfolio, in fact you might even want to put a little bit into Ripple and dash but hey that's just one speculators advice. between the two you chose I think any serious investors response is hedge your bets.

i would consider a percent split as well, but i would favor eth in the percentage. it seems like there is simply more upside for eth to move, considering the current price of bitcoin. we saw bitcoin move from tenths of a cent, to multiple thousands of dollars. given how much innovation there is in the eth sphere, they should have no problem reaching the same price levels, eventually.

I have just over £500 to spend and I'm not sure where I should be investing this.

Do I buy a small fraction of a bitcoin or buy 2 ethers?

What would you do?

I'm looking for some long term investment.

Also, i'm hoping to contribute £100 per month towards either one but not sure which direction I should be taking.
Ethereum seems to be quite alright as of now, but based on the stories I have heard of it, I wouldn’t be Investing in such. Bitcoin was the first, and also the most trusted, so I would say you keep calm and keep that £500 somewhere safe and wait for Bitcoin price to fall, possibly on November, then you invest it and make profit.

its better if you try another altcoin with a potential to rise its value in the future. In my trading account , i am holding monaco coin, monero, bitconnect and waves. Im planning to add more altcoins to my list if i get some extra funds. And if you are going to buy some coins, just go for a long term investment

I have investments in 6 altcoins so far. Rip, XVG, Doge, IOTA, XEM and Sia. I will be getting more maybe Waves or some NEO.

I would go 35 % BTC, 25 % LTC , 20 % ETH and 20 % Waves.

Yes investing in LTC is a smart one Litecoin has the potential to rise very high and double his value. I have already invested in LTC, but not in ETH Im just waiting to sell LTC for a good price and then i will invest in it. Bitcoin is also a good coin to invest if bitcoin is really falling high we should buy coins, because bitcoin is every time rising and falling.

I don't think you will get a lot of bitcoin with just 500 so i think it is better to invest them in ether so you can make profit out of that and sell that for bitcoins because actually everything comes great out for bitcoin.

I will still suggest Bitcoin, ethereum is a good coin but the price keep on up and down, Bitcoin also up and down but in the end it can go up and create a new bottom price, and it is small chance to earn 100£ with 500£, it is not that easy to be able to gained profit that big, even if you are a professional trader it still difficult to keep on earning profit

hi,

tbh my small investments are for the long run so not too fussed what the profit is now. I'm hoping my altcoins do well.

If it does become true that bitcoin price rockets my £500 plus the extra per month i contribute will give me a decent amount in future.

Cheers

Frankly speaking, I would invest all of that amount in bitcoin only. The price of bitcoin now was down by $200 so it's a good time to buy back some at the moment. But if you don't want bitcoin only or you aren't comfortable by investing that amount wholly in bitcoin, then you can invest 80% in bitcoin and 20% in eth. You can do the adjustments, try to learn and do some research on what will make you comfortable with the percentage.

Do some research in coming altcoins. You can maybe even catch a legitimate ICO that is promising. One that I have recently seen is EnjinCoin, which has a huge base in terms of all gamers across the world. 500$ may not seem like a lot, but it depends on where you invest and what you make out of it. Currently, putting into Bitcoin might not do you much good.
Yes do some research because there are many coins now that have a potential to grow and give a big profit. It is good to invest in altcoins now because some of the altcoins have not done yet discover but can cause a big profit.

Yeah, why dont you diversify it on another altcoins? it is plenty of them, you can search for any altcoin that is under $0,10 - $1 and it will give you a lot of profits. 0xproject is a good coin for short term, i am going to buy some in the next days. I have some Ark right now, and this is the coin that most money gave to me , since i bought them at $1,20 each one

I would split that some and invest in both. Bitcoin is always good investment and you can't go wrong with that but ETH is also perspective coin worth investing. Still the larger amount I would invest in bitcoin and the smaller in Ethereum, let's say 75:25 ratio in favour of bitcoin.
Yeah, both are good, invest to Bitcoin will need you wait in a long term to take profit. But Ethereum can helps you earn profit in short term, that is an interesting point make me like altcoin market.

I would suggest to spend it on Ether.  Buying ether will have a possibility to increase your holdings at least twice.  That is if ether goes up and at the same time Bitcoin goes up.  Or an equalizer such as when ether goes down but bitcoin goes up or vice versa.  You have more chance of gaining profit if you buy Ether, that is 25% gain 50% stale and 25% lose.  Aside from that Ether is pretty solid investment too since this token have huge community and several developments to come.

Bitcoin should drop down towards its support level, so it might have a little further to go yet. Does hurt to watch the charts for a few days.

etherium is very good. but, now bitcoin is under $ 4000, and it could be a good thing to buy bitcoin for now. rising and falling bitcoin prices are also very good lately. it could be an advantage in the short term
