it's my opinion that you should split it between them, they're both poised to rise right now and are both poised to be rising for the next year at the very least regardless of what happens in the financial climate. if you have the spare money to invest invest immediately and there's absolutely nothing wrong with a diverse portfolio, in fact you might even want to put a little bit into Ripple and dash but hey that's just one speculators advice. between the two you chose I think any serious investors response is hedge your bets.
Look at the market bitcoin is going viral now a days people are coming to invest so as you mentioned about invest so people are investing in decentralized world they will see many best things in their life in a future with bitcoin.

Holding both might be a great alternative. Because they are the leading coins and no need to worry, also the principle of investment is long time. Daily volatility should not affect our attitude in investing.

Hi All,

I have just over £500 to spend and I'm not sure where I should be investing this.

Do I buy a small fraction of a bitcoin or buy 2 ethers?

What would you do?

I'm looking for some long term investment.

Also, i'm hoping to contribute £100 per month towards either one but not sure which direction I should be taking.

Many Thanks
For me, I can say that bitcoin is more good in investment than all the altcoins. £500 is a enough money to start a long term investment in bitcoin. Bitcoin is very profitable so It is better to invest your money to the bitcoin.
That's right, before invest into any cryptocurrency on the market, you should spend your money to buy Bitcoin first. Because Bitcoin is the main pair and is the crypto you want to withdrawal your profit from here.
Though bitcoin has got different pairings with entire digital currency, it's good to invest into bitcoin as well diversify with the one that can be traded for bitcoin without much complications. Also if you are planning for a profit in a much lesser time period it's good to invest with ICO's.

Off course you should be investing money into bitcoin only. The volatility of which affects the ether price by the way. If you see the trend then you will notice that ether has always gone up and down as the bitcoin has moved up and down. So your invest plenty should go into the coin which is affecting the market and that's bitcoin really. Ether is having low value but less potent to capture the market in short period of time. By the time your ether goes up, the bitcoin would have gone double the current value that's for sure. So I'm thinking its better to get bitcoin though you get small portion of it. That really doesn't matter because when you invest £500 in bitcoin then it's £500 only and when you do the same in ether then also it's £500 only. ;-)

If you have money to spend on either Bitcoin or Ether it is Bitcoin by a long shot. It is sound money and in the process of replacing the dollar, whereas ETH is being used for speculation.

From my point of view I will consider if that investment is worth the risk and if I can profit a lot from it. So I'm referring to bitcoin as the ultimate choice for cryptocurrency investments. Ethereum might be a good competition to btc but still it can't replace bitcoin on its place even with a smaller transaction fees is given. So just invest it all to bitcoin worth of £500.

Spend it on bitcoin because bitcoin has a strong market and it has a lot of supporters so you will not have any problem for keeping bitcoin for a lot of years because you will feel comfortable because of its stable and strong market and i think that because of bitcoin you can grow that 500 into 2000 if you will just be patient in holding bitcoin.

I love Ethereum. Diversification is key. However, if you want to keep one currency between the two, play safe and go with BTC. Try to do your own research.

ETH is great site but bitcoin is better !
It's depend on your trust whenever you trust ETH or btc since anything can happen. For example : ETH being used by microsoft , bitcoin being legalized on Japan and South Korea

I agree that Bitcoin is better but with the calculation of dollar  growth, since this is an investment, I believe investing in ETH is better.  I am positive that ETH and Bitcoin will incline in value and having both of this cryptocurrency increasing in price value, it is best to invest in ETH then when time come that we have to convert it, converting it to bitcoin first then to fiat will give us more profit.

I will advise you to focus on your real job for full time and then use the rest of the time you have after work to focus on bitcoin, than quit your job and focus fully on bitcoin. Signature campaign is not a job you work as full time, it’s just part-time.

I would not invest in Ether right now. With all the bans and China news it can't be good for ETH. Historically, Ether has been the ICO coin and that's why it blew up so much. With tons of these ICOs becoming cracked down on it's not a good idea to invest.

Split your money! Never put all your eggs in one basket.
I would split it 50/50 in bitcoin and ethereum, or maybe invest also a bit in some altcoins like litecoin, monero. Try to build a nice and varied portfolio with different coins

I followed this idea before 1 August bitcoin split. I used have all bitcoins, and I splitted them into altcoins. And this made me 40% loss. I will never give up from bitcoin anymore. Only strong one in the market!
Ok thank you! Grin You had gave me a chance to buy altcoins and the whales also love that. They want to create a doubt the price of altcoins on the market. But not easy to make all traders change their opinion, that is reason they need to dump altcoins to low in a long time.

i would consider a percent split as well, but i would favor eth in the percentage. it seems like there is simply more upside for eth to move, considering the current price of bitcoin. we saw bitcoin move from tenths of a cent, to multiple thousands of dollars. given how much innovation there is in the eth sphere, they should have no problem reaching the same price levels, eventually.

to be honest with you I'm inclined to agree, there's no reason Bitcoin couldn't suddenly Spike overnight but a smaller investment into etherium would yield much higher for such an event. Sound Advice by any means my friend.

I would just buy your fraction of bitcoin (it doesn't matter if it's 'just' a fraction) and place some cheap buy orders for ether if you really want ether. Bitcoin has dropped quite a bit so it's a good opportunity right now, don't get me wrong though it might drop more but long term $3800 is a very good entry point.

If you want to risk a bit Put 65-70% in Ethereum as it can jump in the coming year, Bitcoin will also rise, but it might take another dip in the near future.
Also it would be much better if you don't restrict to only this two coins, better to diversify more, it does lowers the risk in great way and also increases the chance of getting more profit.
