Board: msi z97 gaming 7
7x RX 470
OS: Windows 10 x64

showing only 5vga, trying use your trick with driver 14.4 and registry mod, but still not succes
i hope you can update the mod to make Rx 4xx conected with more than 5vga

Win 10 works out of the box for 6x rx 470. So.. something else is the issue.

Also, I was not able not make the mod for 6x470 for Win7.

There is 8 GPU limit for the AMD cards. I tried to run 5X 7990, it does not work. Only 4X7990 will work.

Crosshair V Formula-Z and 3 R9 295X2s

Should work -

http://hwbot.org/submission/3050127_oldcomer_gpupi___32b_4_radeon_r9_290x_2min_22sec_104ms/

I would try Windows 10(cause it should work out of the box) + changing motherboard BIOS settings or other motherboard.

Wholly smokes... 4 295X2s? Wowzers! Looks awesome Smiley

Thank you for your assistance. I will try changing the BIOS settings you have suggested on my CVFZ with this version of Win 10 before trying on a regular Win 10.

This is what mine looks like. The case is Lian Li's DK-01 Desk/Computer: http://tinypic.com/r/2ztldzr/9
Don't mind the cable management, lol. I'm ordering custom cables from ensourced.net so it will look all neat and tidy.

I have read through the entire thread confirming that this mod works with 6 R9 290s as well as in windows 10. I have a Crosshair V Formula-Z and 3 R9 295X2s on Windows 10 Pro. I know its basically 6 R9 290s. But just wanted to confirm if anyone is able to get 3 of these working.

So far...

1. Plugin one 295X2 closest to the CPU.
2. Disconnect Ethernet cable.
3. Install Windows 10 Pro.
4. Check Device Manager and see that Microsoft Display Driver is installed for both GPUs.
4. Shutdown.
5. Plugin two more 295X2s.
6. Boot.
7. Check Device Manager and see that Microsoft Display Driver is installed on one more GPU. But now two of the GPUs have a yellow triangle exclamation mark (error code 31). The other three are labeled "Video Controller" each with a yellow triangle exclamation mark (also error code 31).
8. Right-click on 6XGPU_mod and run as an administrator.
9. Select Force, Modify Registry, and Reboot, options. Then ran.
10. When finished Reboot.
11. Nothing has changed. See Step 7.
12. Manually update driver (latest Crimson) on the GPU without the exclamation mark. But it applied the driver to all three "Microsoft Display Drivers" replacing it with "Radeon R9 200 series" and are in good working order.
13. I proceed to manually update driver (latest Crimson) of one of the "Video Controller" with yellow triangle exclamation mark replacing it with "Radeon R9 200 series" and is in good working order.
14. I proceed to manually update driver (latest Crimson) of one of the remaining two "Video Controller" with yellow triangle exclamation marks. Computer reboots and I get BSoD: SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (atikmpag.sys)

I have tried this twice already. 1st time I forgot to clear the CMOS before plugging in the remaining two 295X2s. 2nd time I cleared the CMOS before installing the remaining two 295X2s. Both ending with the same result, Step 14. I will be trying Crimson 15.12 next. (Did they rename Catalyst 15.12 to Crimson 15.12?)

I have also tried installing Windows 10 Pro with all 3 from the get go but it doesn't pass the loading initialization screen. Only until I unplug one of the 295X2s does it proceed past it.

I have also tested each individually to make sure they meet the reference model standard. All three do.

3. Clear CMOS

You mean - remove battery/jumper short?

I mean clear the CMOS by moving the jumper to the clear position.... then back.  Should be referencedd in your mobo manual.

What about 6 GPUs in Windows 7 with the latest AMD driver?

I've had no problems running 6 GPU rigs with cheap celly cpu's on Win10:

1. Install windows with only 1 GPU.

2. Shut down and attach all 6 GPU.

3. Clear CMOS

4. Boot and install graphics driver

5. Everything works

After much frustration getting to this point - clearing the CMOS is imperative.  Hope this helps someone.

Can anyone run 6xRX470-480 on win7? Avaliable only 5 cards and 6's with error 43.
Here one man run 6*480 on win7 with 16.7.2 drivers http://forum.ethereum.org/discussion/comment/62974/#Comment_62974
but support 470 (cards, wich I have in hands) was added only in 16.7.3 drivers, tried this version - didn't help.

so, maybe someone succesfully run 6*470-480 cards on win7?

This mod is not working for me with the latest driver (16.8.2) and 7 RX 480's on Windows 7. Any ideas? I did run the application as an administrator. The app seems to work fine with  6 GPU's, though.

Same issue!

Driver 16.8.2 RC4
Board: H81 BTC
6x RX 470
OS: Windows 7 x64

After installing the driver only 4 (!!!) gpus are working.
The other 2 gpus show Error 43.

Your tool works to get 5 gpus running but still 1 gpu showing Error 43.
Running your tool once again didn't change anything.
So the total is 4 with driver only and 5 with your mod applied (even multiple times).

I would love to stay with windows 7 (!!!) allthough win 10 seems to be plug and play.

Quite strange, I updated an old rig to driver 16.8.2 RC4 with the same setup as above but INSTEAD 6x R9 280x.
Once again with the driver only, just 4x 280x were working, 2 were showing Error 43.
But in this case your mod worked to get all 6x 280x running.
So the only difference is the gpu model itself.

Thanks in advance if you can fix it.

In the PC system BIOS, you might be able to change the PCIE generation from 3 to 1. This might help.

It seems that some motherboards cannot handle 7 or 8 GPUs. I confirmed with Windows 10 and RX 480's that the limits for ASUS Maximus V Extreme and ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z are 7 GPUs and 6 GPUs, respectively, even with PCIe multipliers. These limits presumably depend upon the CPU and PCIe bridge. Hope this helps.

Also, imo it is better to check on *nix. Cause Win AMD driver deffo has limitation, *nix apparently does not.
However, as far as I know mod does not work with 8x290 on Win8.1(and older) - only 7xGPUs work.

Probably already answered, but did not find the answer therefore asking: Mother Board Asrock B85 with 5 cards (one is 7990 so windsurfing 8.1 visible in the list 6), add another r9 280x and it is - the seventh - does not work with error 43. Tried everything - setup of MB, registry cleaner and modified  (6xGPU_mod), an additional power supply, adding memory, riser changed, a different version of the driver set. Prompt, pls. how to solve the problem?

Hi
modded in minutes, i can see all cards now, but after running my mining batch  - eth it end with
blue screen with hug data ( something like errors)
5 x r9 290 win 7 boistar  MetherB
any solution?
thx

Well.. it's a bit out of the scope of this thread.
So you better ask here - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-sgminer-v5-optimized-x11x13neoscryptlyra2reetc-kernel-switch-miner-632503 for example.

However, make sure that your PSU can handle all the cards and that each GPU can work on it's own.
Or you can significantly lower GPU frequencies in MSI AfterBurner f.e.
Try something 800/1250 for all the cards - this will make GPUs to use much less W.
Also it can be driver related issue, for ETH AFAIK it is recomennded to use 15.12 driver.
And make sure that all the GPUs are actually working and are properly detected by the system, f.e. switching trough all of them in GPU-Z and reading temp/freq/etc.
thank you, ill go through above lines and see
