holding in 2-3 years is a very long time and maybe it will be very risky because we do not know how the development of coins in the future. if the coin in the hold is ethereum will definitely get a profit because we know ethereum is a good coin, but if you hold your new coin like a speculate.
Holding for 2 or 3 years is a long time to be trying to store any coin...even Bitcoin. Invest while trying to get the money out the same year.
Yes, OMG and NEO is a good investment for the long-time. They have a great future in my opinion. Also, ETH is a good option to invest for long term.
i also invest some altcoin in ico,i will hold 2-3 years,when it run full roadmaps,in the future altcoin will increase,60% for eth and btc,40 % for altcoin

I think VLB token is another good coin worth holding for a lot of years. Their project is great and they are ready to work for it. As it is concerned with the shadiness of team. Their team returned the whole money when they couldn't reach the soft cap and tried again as they really wanted to work upon the project. I feel they are really great.
yes it may be true we have to hold about 1 or 2 years to return as before.
Personally, I don't trust any altcoins for 2-3 years. If I had to say something, I would say most promising altcoins like ethereum or ripple. Also eidoo looks good project, they may exist in future. If someone wants to hodl an altcoin 2 or 3 years, he must check its team.
Try to find, research about the field to develop of which coin you want to hold for 2-3 years.Then, you can research about the community of that coin too, if you can check ecosystem of that coin, you will have more reasons to hold that coin or not.
My suggest coins can hold 2-3 years are: Ethereum (smart contract, can use for any field), Ripple (for payment and transaction on global), Monero (for private transaction, without tracking by anyone).

One of my top picks that I also will hold long term would be ICON. They have so much stuff coming up...

Well, in general, buy altcoin and hold for several years, not a bad idea. But why there are no waves? Waves and Stratis are very promising projects, especially in the long term.
I suggest NEO, IoT and ETH. All three have long-term and convincing. Where they have a great and tested team of developers in their field.
all these cryptocurrencies seems good. infact i believe any currency that is stable and have spend some time can be hodl. I mean it all depends on bitcoin, if it moves up, it'll drag all the coins. so indirectly you are holding bitcoin.

Well, why is it unpredictable? Very predictable. It grows every year. And I think 2-3 years will not change anything. This is my personal opinion.

Ethereum is definitely going to survive for at least another 5 years, and therefore you can invest in it for the long term. A few other coins which I can recommend for the long term include Waves, Litecoin, Stellar, Monero...
