took a year but we are finally seeing improvements

BitBean was born on February 13, 2015. We're only 8 months in and we have nearly 4 months to go before we celebrate BitBean's 1st. birthday!

Meanwhile, I expect that we will see much of the existing roadmap completed before then.

Cheers!

Looking forward to the new (or revised)  road map,  is an Android wallet still in the plans?  Lots of people have old Android devices lying around and if they are capable of staking it'd be a nice low power alternative to running a computer or laptop 24/7. Using less power would make staking bitbeans even more green to boot!

In the absence of a staking android wallet, the StakeBox at StakeBox.comis a low energy consuming, 24/7 staking alternative.

I'll shoot some volume over at Bittrex, surprised more aren't on there already with Cryptsy gouging on the withdrawals lately.

Hey Shawn, nice work on the new wallet.

Looks a lot nicer.

Any chance we can get bitbean listed on presstab.pw? I really like that site and it lists all the POS coins and I really think bitbean should be on there. Also, I can't find an equivalent set of sites for bitbean as the ones listed on the front page are very out of date.

Besides, I want to see where I am in the richlist Grin

I think presstab said you would need to pay a nominal fee of like $7 a month for bandwidth or whatnot but I'm not sure.

Thank you for the nice words. I can't take all the credit as it was a Team effort among Bean Core members.

Regarding adding BitBean to presstab.pw, this would perhaps best be a community project. Bean Core already is committed to supporting the network and maintaining 3 servers as well as other services.

Two of the explorers linked at our front page will show you a richlist:

https://chainz.cryptoid.info/bitb/#!rich
&
http://www.blocktree.io/richlist/BITB

Other than richlist, what other information are you looking for from the blockchain?

Sincerely,

Shawn Kent

P.S. Currently the pressing matter is to keep BitBean on Bittrexx, as it has been signaled to be delisted if volume does not average .2BTC per day for a seven day period preceding October 30.

Getting some more volume on Bittrexx should be our #1 priority as a community right now!

You really need to rethink your marketing urges, I know you seem to be getting things back on track but when you post stuff like this with no context the first thing I think is "The Final Countdown to 0 Sats".

Good intentions perhaps but... maybe not the best reference?

Hopefully this isn't the "Final Countdown", and it will be followed by many more to come.

THE FINAL COUNTDOWN

(ten, nine, eight, seven, six, five, four, three, two, one)

We're leaving together,
But still it's farewell.
And maybe we'll come back
To earth, who can tell?
I guess there is no one to blame
We're leaving ground (leaving ground)
Will things ever be the same again?

It's the final countdown.
The final countdown

Oh!

We're heading for Venus (Venus)
And still we stand tall
'Cause maybe they've seen us (seen us)
And welcome us all, yeah.
With so many light years to go
And things to be found (to be found)
I'm sure that we'll all miss her so.

It's the final countdown...
The final count down [2x]

The final count down
Oh!

It's the final count down
The final count down [2x]

It's the final count down
We're leaving together
The final count down
We'll all miss her so.
It's the final count down.

Oh!
It's the final count down.

QR Code support

- a must so glad to see that.
- messaging / irc stuff not real important (memory hogs) but if it is in there leave it, i like payment 'memo' option that both parties can see ... so it is a toss up on resource usage vs. features.
- colors are pretty Wink

random request/suggestion:

public address directory, so like a seed node coded in (or some kind of conf file edit), that lists all community members addies/names.  reason fun & convenience ... will aid in tipping down the road too.

If I ran a bitbean wallet, I'd be firing that up right about now. Instead, I keep my beans at coinwallet.co where I can hold like a dolphin but stake like a whale until I regain more confidence. I've bought a bit more since Shawn started talking more reasonably, looking forward to what comes next. You've got some momentum started here, now keep it going!

Looking forward to the roadmap so we can have a better idea what your priorities are to take bitbean forward. Think underpromise and overdeliver to start making up for the last roadmap that led straight into a lake, it's taken you months to pull the beanmobile out and get it running again Wink

Bean Core Is Pleased To Announce The Release Of
BitBean-qt v1.1.0.0RC (Release Candidate) For Linux

These are the the first working Linux binary distributions of the BitBean Wallet, since the the BitBean network went live on February 13th., this year! The 32-bit release will work on older systems that don't have SSE2 support, such as the Athlon XP processors.

To take advantage of the stunning beauty of these new wallets, it is recommended to run them on Linux Mint or other Linux distributions that utilize the KDE desktop environment. KDE itself is built using the Qt framework, the same that is used to build BitBean-qt.

The wallets are available for immediate download for Linux 32-bit and Linux 64-bit architectures:
http://www.bitbean.org/downloads.html

Mac OS X and Android Wallets will follow.

Improvements and Changes for v1.1.0.0RC:

  • removal of zerocoin from code base
  • removal of IRC from code base
  • DNS seeds added and DNS seeding enabled by default (no more bitbean.conf or addnodes needed to sync)
  • New BitBean DNS server node: stalk1.bitbean.org*
  • New BitBean DNS server node: stalk2.bitbean.org*
  • New BitBean DNS server node: stalk3.bitbean.org*
  • updated hard nodes (backup to DNS seeding)--previous wallet had no hardnodes--at least not BitBean ones {sigh}
  • New GUI Theme (no more ugly boring basic grey)
  • Completely new images and icons
  • Newly developed animated syncing icon
  • fixes to dialog windows and missing icons
  • New Gradient Tabs
  • New Context Menu
  • Support for Unity Global Menu
  • compile time errors and warning fixes
  • customization of source and preparation for inclusion of Bitcoin as a side chain
  • New network statistics overview
  • Updated checkpoint
  • New 5 BitB 'recommended' transaction fee
  • New monetary unit: SPROUT = 1,000 BitB
  • New monetary unit: NOKAT = .00000001 BitB
  • New contact & support info added
  • Improved network connectivity
  • Updated fonts
  • QR Code Support added with fixes
  • Numerous other "under-the-hood" changes and improvements

Source Code is available:  https://github.com/TeamBitBean/bitbean-core

*Servers are operated and maintained by Bean Core (www.bitbean.org).

The following are some screenshots showcasing the new Linux Wallet running on Linux Mint 17:

it is the best way and only way

leave the swagger, bravado, and macho talk for IRC

here we need project goals, community organizing, and updates on the wallet and network

----
here's a community project
get listed on cryptopia ... cryptsy reeks of NOPE!

https://www.cryptopia.co.nz/Home/Voting

(secret to winning is voting on Mon-Tues and then pressing all week if you can get an early lead) Wink

I agree, Cryptsy has become a less friendly place for Beaners. I recommend buying BitBeans at Bluetrade:   https://bleutrade.com/exchange/BITB/BTC
They are the newest exchange to add us, and have BITB/DOGE and BITB/LTC trading pairs as well!

Having Bitbeans on another exchange like cryptopia would be great!

Cheers!

Glad to see work still being done... I've had some of these here Beans happily staking away since earlier this year and I'd like to see this not go the way of so many other coins. Cheers boys.

EDIT: Just reading back over some of the recent posts and for the record the "If you don't like what we're doing, you can take your shit and get out attitude" will invariably lead to a toxic environment. I see these posts from TeamBean and I see a mix of dedication to the project but also snippets like that. You know who was really famous for saying stuff pretty much exactly like that? Josh Garza. And you can see how well that turned out for him.

Mark Lyford of BANX also routinely says things along those lines, and his latest venture to scramble for cash while his ICO is delayed into perpetuity, is running a "Blockchain-backed physical lottery" somewhere in the Carribbean and soliciting investors to back it.

"..Josh Garza"?!

Ouch! ..that's way off base and I really take offense with that!

The quote comes from the 2013 Movie:  JOBS (aka, Steve Jobs...the founder of Apple, one of the most successful computer companies in the World!)

Steve Jobs:  Everything is a pressing issue, if we want to make the vision for Lisa a reality...
we got to put in the hours and make something great.

Programmer:  but we have a hard date on this software..I'm sorry, but adding pretty fonts is not going to change that..

Jobs:  if you don't share our enthusiasm and care for the vision of this company..

Programmer: no no..I'm not understanding..

Jobs:  get out..

Programmer: What?

Jobs:  Get your shit and get out! Your done.

Programmer: What, are you going to fire me?

Jobs:  No.I already fired you, why are you still here?

Division Lead: He was the best programmer in our division..

Jobs: He's the best programmer that dosn't care about our vision..

There is a right place for constructive criticism and I am willing to listen with an open ear.  inyereye used to frequent our IRC channel, and had a one-to-one opportunity to communicate with me directly there, but instead, he chose to spew his vitriol in a public forum where it would hurt BitBean the most, meanwhile playing 'peek-a-boo' (coming in and leaving right away, repeatedly) in our IRC channel (#bitbean on Freenode)  -- like a little boy.

I have little patience for those that want to play games.

This is all I'm going to say on this matter here. If anyone wants to communicate with me directly, please do so in our IRC channel on Freenode (#bitbean) or via email:  [email protected]

Just because its a quote from a movie doesn't make a difference.  Saying get your shit and get out can be used in everyday context as an insult you can't just say ohh its from a movie so its all right.  I'm sure most everything people have ever spoken has been in a movie at one point or another.

I don't care if it's a quote and Josh Garza both in person and in forums said things exactly like that. If you don't like the comparison, don't make yourself sound like Josh. Simple as that. Movie quote or not, you said something childish and myopic to one of your biggest supporters. When this coin was at its peak, inyereye was your biggest champion, and you told him to pack his shit and leave. Doesn't matter why you felt you needed to say it, and believe me, his motives definitely were NOT to do damage to Bitbeans... he had a fuckton of them and it wouldn't make economic sense for him to devalue his own assets. And whether or not you agree, you're the leader in the BitBean community and it does fall to you and be the bigger person and smooth things over when your investors have issues.

And there's no reason for you to know this, but inyereye has gained the trust of a significant number of folks in the crypto world and he's someone I'd like to have on my side for any project, and by that same token, I wouldn't want him feeling shitty about anything with my name on it either.

If you take offense with being compared to Joshie, don't behave like him. It is that simple. I think people would buy a comparison of you to Garza more than they would Steve Jobs...

 Bitbeaner,

. When I did talk directly to you on IRC,  you lied. Not once but on multiple occasions. I do tend to pop on and off IRCbut mainly because I am busy and much of my work prohibits me from spending extended time on IRC these days. The few times I did reach out recently the channel was dead quiet for hours and your autoreply said you weren't there.

. I also checked bitbean.org frequently and even you have ever to admit it has been mostly abandoned since August if not earlier.  Despite my discontentment and concerns I still took time to propose bitbean to a major faucet when you put out the call.

In a vacuum of your communication and with distrust I took to this public forum as a last ditch effort and to prevent what looked exactly like the common pump schemes.

I haven't seen that Steve Jobs s movie,  and haven't owned an Apple device since I worked for Apple but can appreciate the quote more now. Out of context,  it is seriously just bad image and a really poor response in a public thread.

FYI,  that somebody TehPwner mentioned is me and several other substancial holders are also people I brought to the Bean.

let's move forward,  I WANT you to prove me wrong.
