The problem is that for fiat there are tax considerations.

Wouldn't your worries go away if you'd just hold your funds yourselves guys? If you're all so worries about who's securing your funds, just deposit what you're planning to exchange and then withdraw back!

That's the only way I've been doing things forever!
So shitty banking is ok... not.

I was supposing that people are storing cryptocurrencies in exchanges, not fiat. But if we're talking about holding fiat in an exchange or a bank, I'd choose bank any time!
There are so many scum exchanges out there which are much worse than banks.
Kraken is fine, from my personal experience it's the best and most supportive exchange I've used, but they can't be immune, there's always a chance they might get hacked and they'll have to resort in haircutting our balances... so what I was saying was that it's better to keep your funds on your own hands (if you have good security habits).

So at 11PM (French time) last night there was a spike at 9604,97€/BTC

All day I see that on my phone as the highest price of the last 24 hours.

It's still the case right now.

Yet I had a sell order at 9600€ and it didn't execute. It's still there.

What's up with that ?

aesma,

Sorry to hear about this. If you haven't already, please open a support ticket, provide the specific details of your order, and a member of the trading team can look into your case further.

Kraken,

Tell me this Etana custody thing is not the solution that you guys finally came up with after all this time and that it is a temporary bandaid?

Etana had the whole kicked off Nz list issue not to mention its quite small. It is a custody service and a 3rd party meaning someone else holds my money and they could go bye bye with it.

On top of the above concerns, you have to apply all over again for KYC with them and answer a 6 page questionnaire that is intrusive as hell. All you've done here is passed off your banking responsibility to a 3rd party, washed your hands off and if anything goes wrong you would claim you are not responsible.

Why is it just you guys that are unable to get their banking in order when all your competitors have gotten theirs?

sampam,

Kraken’s collaboration with Etana Custody is not a temporary solution, however we are always looking at adding additional funding partners and options.

Please note that Etana has not been kicked off of any list, as they are fully legal and compliant in every jurisdiction they have a presence in. We have had more than a year of due diligence put into Etana and are happy to offer an additional funding option to our clients. The new funding method does require opening an account with a third-party, however clients are not obligated to use this funding method if they do not wish to.

Our push to offer additional funding options does not stop here, as we will continue to explore and offer additional funding options to our clients. Just as with our other banking partners, we work very closely with them to resolve any issues on our client’s behalf and would do so with Etana-related issues as well.

If you happen to have any other Etana-specific questions or concerns, please feel free to open a support request and an Etana specialist would be happy to go through each of your questions and/or concerns.

You are aware of this and other concerns?
https://www.interest.co.nz/business/98363/resurrection-how-etana-custody-ltd-company-whose-ceo-major-shareholder-has-never-been

Most no one would be willing to provide all that KYC and answer 6 pages of intrusive pointless questions on top.

Again, why only you? Why when Gemini, Bittrex, Binance, Bitfinex, Bitstamp are expanding and bringing on new banking partners you aren't able to for over 1.5years?

Is it not time for you to give up on USD and Kraken? It simply won't happen in a straightforward manner. Go to Gemini.

There's no way I'll be going anywhere near this service either. It smells like a cop out from Kraken and etana themselves smell like the type of place that's going to disappear with little to no warning.

If I were running Kraken i would not be exposing my customers to a place that appears that shoddy. I would wait for real and integrated banking for other currencies or forget everything other than EUR.

i'm looking at the verification tiers and limits here:
https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001395743
https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360001449826
https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/209238787-Margin-borrow-limits

so we can trade without ID/selfie/proof of residence---including borrowing up to 2.5 XBT on margin---and withdraw $5k equivalent daily? and USA traders are allowed? correct me if i'm wrong please. i'm looking for new options where i don't need to give up my ID et al and kraken sounds like a decent one.

can anyone comment on circumstances where "starter level" accounts might be forced to complete further KYC? are there many reports of that happening?
Looking at those links,
you can apparently withdraw $5k worth of crypto per day with the "starter" account.

Your first link shows that withdrawing fiat requires an "intermediate" account.
As the link below explains,
https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/201352206-What-are-the-verification-tiers-and-requirements-
The intermediate account requires valid ID and proof of residence, which the starter account doesn't.
But you still have to provide date of birth, phone number, and physical address to get a starter account.
Which makes it fairly intrusive, unless you plan to give fake info and use a burner phone.
You wouldn't do that, would you? Cheesy

Can an Indian national open an account @ Kraken with Indian bank account and purchase coins paying with Rupees?

As explained above, it's not possible. An alternative would be to use Unocoin or WazirX. I haven't tried either of them but there are some good reviews online.

Both of them are P2P Exchange, not direct exchange like Kraken so one cannot deposit INR on Unocoin and WazirX too.

@samlitecoin

You can't deposit INR, you can fund your account only in USD/GBP/EUR/JYN/CAD
See: https://support.kraken.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000382363-Fiat-currencies-and-funding-options-available-on-Kraken

It's the same for the withdrawals by the way.

Can I withdraw funds from Etana to other than my own accounts? if not what is the advantage of this? just another step to put my funds that will cost me fees? I do not see why its needed at all.

samlitecoin,

No, you cannot withdraw funds from Etana to anyone else’s account. The primary advantage of Etana is that there is now a USD funding service for international individuals - a service that was previously unavailable.

Kraken’s focus on delivering financial freedom means giving our clients more choice when it comes to managing their assets. In collaboration with Etana Custody, almost every Kraken client across 180+ countries has access to new funding options in five major currencies – USD, EUR, CAD, GBP and JPY.  The new options are available to Intermediate and Pro accounts (Starter accounts can upgrade to get access).

For more details, please check out our latest blog post: https://blog.kraken.com/post/2581/kraken-adds-global-funding-options-in-five-major-currencies/[/color]
