Is there something wrong with the network? How long are blocks supposed to take to be confirmed?

Nothing wrong at my node: fully sync and receiving and broadcasting blocks as usual........ (?)

Are you downloading the blockchain the first time? It can take 2-3 days to fully sync it in HHDs (about 1 day on SSDs)

Hi all,
Does anybody know how long are sia coins allocated ?
I allocated the coins in the October 2016 and after deleting the files in March 2017
the rest of the coins still didnt return to my wallet.

Hi, the non-used part of your allowance should be returned by the end date of your file contracts. So even if you have deleted the files in advance, if you made file contracts for longer times, they will be locked until contracts finish

hi all ...

does anyone know how to import an older wallet.json into the current wallet ( 1.2.2 ) ? ...

this would be a huge help ...

tanx ...

#crysx

I think some weeks ago I was talking with out this same problem... I am sad you still have that problem. In version 1.2.2 they added a command for recovering old wallets, I am not sure if back in time I suggested you already this solution:

Legacy wallets (those previous to version 0.3.3, when wallets didn't have a recovery seed) can be accessed in v1.2.2 by typing this command on the UI terminal: "siac wallet load 033x (path of the wallet file)". If you access it, I strongly recommend you to move your funds to a new address that uses a seed for recovery

Let's say I want to give some of my free space on HDD.

What is the uptime requirement?

I understand there's a 2000 collaterel, e.g., but there's no chance in hell I'm gonna host files on sia network and lose all of my monthly revenue and collateral if I have half a day of internet problems.

I am pretty sure the up time requirement is greater than 99%. This should only be done on a machine that is up all the time basically.

Then this coin is bullshit and nobody's gonna let others store files on it Wink

Amazon standard has a 25 % refund policy under 98% of uptime. If you do the math, with 2000 sia collateral, on a 6-7 Terabyte hosting I'm gonna lose more than I make if I failt to keep 98% uptime.

And amazon can offer a very high uptime thanks to multiple nodes across the US.

Still even Amazon has major disruptions of service. Still remember many websites not working this february across the globe (including github).

https://aws.amazon.com/it/message/41926/

So now, tell me, do you really think I'm gonna lose 2000 sia of collateral because I have half an afternoon of power or internet problem to host somebody's files on my pc?

No. Fuckin. Way.

2000 of a collateral is much too higher of a price.

I obviously understand the point of the collateral, but there's basically nobody in this forum that can guarantee a 98%+ uptime a month for an entire year.

... Can't you really afford 2000SC (about $25) to set up your collateral budget as a host, seriously??? If you can't guarantee an uptime of 97%, then definitely hosting is not for you. It is the files of people and companies what you are going to host, so if you can't establish a serious hosting operation... better don't do it, it is important files what you are risking, not just your pennies in Sia. Hosting is not a game for an afternoon, buddy, it is a bussiness

Most of us can actually guarantee even higher uptimes. 97% (the uptime goal) represents up to a full day of downtime in a month: totally achievable. You can't expect to run your host in home computer or laptop you just turn on from time to time: you need a dedicated machine for hosting

How to fix this?

We need more details: Version of the client? Is your client already sync to the blockchain? Wallet alredy unlocked? Does it happen every time you close and open Sia?

If it is happening to you during the first blockchain syncing, I recommend you to do this first synchronization on a Command Line interface instead of in the UI: it is way less prone to crashes.

1- Close Sia-UI clicking close on the icon on the system try
2- On the file explorer of Windows, go to Users/your_user/AppData/Roaming/Sia (some of this folders might be hidden). In that folder, find the sub-folder where the files siad.exe and siac.exe are located.
3- Open 2 command lines in that folder (you know, those black screens with white text): on the options ribbon of the file explorer, File > Open command prompt > Open command prompt
4- In the first command line window, type "siad" and press enter. Leave this window open all the time
5- In the second window, type "siac consensus" every time you want to check the sync status. It will indicate you which block has downloaded so far. We are currently in the block #109.000
6- It can take up to 2/3 days to fully sync the blockchain, be patient
7- Once it sais the blockchain is synced, you can close the command lines and open the UI regularly

At first, it happened on one PC.  But then I run the Sia wallet on a brand new win10 Lenovo thinkpad laptop, the blockchain synced fully, I closed the wallet, and when I opened it again I got the same fucking problem. Two years of development and the wallet is still broken(that is after a year and a half ago I lost a few millions of sia due to bugs in the previous versions).

My first suggestion, since you claim its on multiple PCs and wont answer the tech questions, is to ask your parents to relax the parental settings on your router.

Too bad people dont read more...

https://blog.sia.tech/how-to-run-a-host-on-sia-2159ebc4725

From the link above:

The ‘Max Collateral’ is the maximum amount of collateral that the host will lock away in a single file contract. The default is usually okay, and generally it should be between 3% and 15% of the collateral budget.

‘Collateral’ is the amount of money that the host will put on the line when storage is uploaded. Renters are more likely to pick hosts with higher collateral. The collateral should be at least 1000 siacoins per TB per month, regardless of the storage price.

Like other tech (ahem... bitcoin) sometimes it evolves and creates competition where the avg user cannot participate.  For now, rent out some hard drive space, make a few Sia, but like Bitcoin moving from GPU to ASIC to GIANT FUCKING FARMS, Sia will do the same.   Eventually, people will have dedicated NAS options (Minebox?) that will generate more Sia.    I have a server rack at home on a UPS I may use in the future for this very purpose.

Damn this guy have almost half a million in sia

https://altpocket.io/user/blocky?b

hahahha thats what happen when you hold the right coin.

it happen also with people holding his eth till today

Who is he invested a lot of amount in SIA coin? there are many big whales who invested a lot of amount in SIA coin?
But nobody doesn't know what is going to be the future of SIA coin let's wait and see.

~8 months ago you could have bought a million Sia for $200, but not many knew about it back then. The Sia reddit thread was a ghost town back then.

Is it possible to compare ETH and SIA real $ price on the certain period of time? Seems similar? Eth made ~x15 and so did SIA from 30-50 sato, right?

What's the last news for sia? It seems a bit dead recently.

Do you plan on adding new exchanges to the list?

this is a funny post..... seems ur dead  Cheesy
Grin Grin  Grin

Maybe he means no bigger announcements or actions recently. In trading also, its playing on 500 sats or more or less. I do believe its sooner, sia will break a new high. I am very optimistic with this coin. Smiley

I think they already got the most important exchanges already Smiley
