DataTank hasn´t comitted to any ASIC manufacturer yet, afaik.

They only did a calculation of hardware cost IF they deployed now, and they mentioned AM as an example.

They would be dumb to commit to a chip with atleast 50% higher power consumption compared to the competition.

They also cannot judge how the chip / device market will look like at their time of deployment, as this is atleast 3 months in the future.

However, they will be releasing an update soon, so let´s wait for that.
To all the AM fanboys: please don´t feel discouraged in buying DataTank shares by this, as obviously they have to give themselves the best chance of success,
using high efficiency and cheap hardware at the date of deployment.

AM Gen3 is selling at their own wafer cost.

I speculate that your will get some fat dividends soon.

That is simply absurd. When has any company sold asics for zero profit? I highly doubt SP knows anything about AM wafer costs and profit margins.

$0.2/GHs which is very close to AM Gen3 cost. The reason is that those ASICs reached EOL (like our Hammers).
Absurd but true. Verified from two different sources.

Very close to wafer cost =/= wafer cost. Also I'd love to know where this info came from. Cheapest I've heard them selling for is $0.35/gh. I wouldn't be surprised if FC was flogging the chips for around $0.2/gh but I am positive he is not doing it as a charity act.

I think he is referring to the deal between DataTank and AM which was just reached 2 days ago? That is not Selling so much as a barter or trade, if I understand the deal correctly.

It isn´t too far off to think AM is selling their chips at virtually no profit.

Their chip is simply outdated and they thereby hope to recover atleast some of their cost by selling the wafers they had produced.

It is hard to reach 0.7W/GH at the wall with them, even when undervolting.

The information is correct. I got the same number from two different respectable Chinese system manufacturer.

I can't forget the following BS (I don't forget numbers):

This is to inform that friedcat met with the board yesterday and provided some updates.
...
Order of magnitude: Depending on fab capacity. Total target is 10k to 40k wafers, relying on competitors, Bitcoin price, and other factors. A wafer is rated at 40 TH/s.

Ah yeah, i thought i had missed something.

Looks like we are all going down then Wink

Lets see how many chips they need at such low voltage, but low manufacturing costs should more than make up for it.

If it is indeed true that China is more in it for quantity than quality (which doesn´t seem too unusual) their manufacturers will most likely not get beyond the 0.7W/GH efficiency mark (atleast not too soon).

 FYI: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.7374642

Power Consumption: 0.59 J/GH (chip level, and it can be lower to 0.40J/GH by lowering the core voltage)

.40J/GH should translate to .53w/Gh at the wall.

Looks like good progress.

This means that Spondoolies has a real chance to massively expand business by chip sales / cooperative development of immersion cooled units etc.

It should come as a very welcome business opportunity, as spondoolies is still quite a small player (by sold GH) compared to the Chinese top three.

However, spondoolies should have a very good lead in terms of efficiency in July / August (0.7 compared to 0.5W/GH is a ~30% advantage).

@Guy

Is there any chance you could find out how much big Chinese ASIC deployments pay for their power?

I heard it is very hard to get below 10ct/kWh in China, but with certain connections you might get it very low?

That said-re chinese market. Guy, care to elaborate-you understand their marketing or price trends or whether they will develop 20nm or jump straight to 16nm?
Off topic, me to blame. I don't see a Chinese player doing more advance node anytime soon.
They're concentrating on maximizing profit and reducing cost and prices, short term.
AM Gen3 is selling at their own wafer cost. 40 PH/s of A1s
Lot's of low cost farms are being deployed. Seen some pictures.
3 shifts, 24 hours a day producing miners.

GOOD JOB, China... Grin

What is SPTech strategy...how do you plan to compete with them... Huh

Looking for cooperation opportunities ...
We have the tech, they have the muscle ...
The SP30 box was quite a hit ...

i can see that September batch getting less and less available by the minute...
Best of luck with your cooperative efforts - I like the sound of that. In a day when all I see is bitching; snide and underhand comments on these boards, it's time to remember we are actually all in this together. Enjoy your time there and have a safe trip home Guy.

Watch out boys, only approved comments are allowed in this so called 'self-moderated' SPT thread. I think we need a new thread just for Spondooles ROI discussions.

Although this thread is self-moderated, we don't delete comments. This thread should be kept for hardware related questions, per the subject. The mods are enforcing it, without our request, but with our consent.
You're welcome to do ROI discussions elsewhere.

Guy

But are you participating in those other threads regarding ROI discussions and such?

I'm sorry, but I don't have the time to do that in the next 2 weeks.

Personal text my ass....
We'll ship continuously, non stop, in August and September.

When would you ship a September SP30 pre-order placed today ?

Is it true that you are considering lowering the price on the SP30 to the $4K range in a new group buy ?

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/closed-spondoolies-tech-sp30-specs-6ths-046wgh-656170

This should be answered.

It's totally fine by me to have the ROI discussion in another thread.

I ordered from Spondoolies and I will most likely do it again soon.
However, the tone of discussion here (I don't mean Spondoolies staff-you guys were great) with respect to opposing views is sometimes jarring.
After all, we are here to make sure (in a small way, perhaps) that bitcoin succeeds-at least I am.
