You think you can complaint to someone in Shenzhen with your money in hand?

With shipping right now, you can ring the alarm bell to let people know that you are cheated.   Let Paypal know to reverse the order.  His reputation and business will be severely suffered.

vs

With pre-order, when something is wrong you won't know for another 3-4 months.  By that time the seller had amass over $5 million dollars... he already rich so he does not care too much about a couple weeks a months late ... Ok, you want your money back... sure... thank you for letting me borrow your money interest free for 4 months.

Also, by that time many variables were introduced.  It may not be as cheap. Maybe the Chinese will steal their technology in July and mass produce and have them on here for $50 cents/ GH..... never know

Let's not start with maybe's and if's.

For the moment we have some decent company (at last) that promises to deliver in August some powerful mining gear.

You cannot counter that if you don't have evidences for the opposite.

I'd pre-order from spondoolies long before I'd pre-order from cointerra. Just say no. Twice.

The dragon costs $2900. Or $2900/Ths.

Last one I got was actually $2700, they are cheaper now but.

SP10 is $4000 per 1.4Ths or 2857/Ths.

SP10: 2757$/Th
Dragon: 2700$/Th

And now:

The company that you hoped to deliver you the 1.2TH/s Sierra last November was run by a guy that had no idea how to run a business, let alone a bitcoin mining company. What did you know about Eduardo and his smug face? You knew nothing about him or his skills to deliver you the miners. On the other hand SP-Tech has a great Team behind them which you can see it on their website. Also i still don't get it how come it doesn't matter that they are backed by 2 very good VC companies with lots of other projects? Why are you so blind?

Further discussion seems fruitless. The forums are filled with people butthurt after placing a pre-order and almost as many people to show up and say "told ya so" after the fact. Pre-orders are a bad idea and often ends poorly for the "customer" largely because once payment is received, the manufacturer is incentivized to screw over their customers. This is why it happens with such frequency. I've no axe to grind with spondoolies and in fact, I agree that they appear legit, but things change over time. Uncertainty and investments are poor bedfellows and a million things could happen between your payment now and anticipated August delivery.

Why are YOU so blind sir?

No PREORDER PLEASE.

Preorder makes the company richer.  If you don't lend them money for free then they will be cash strap and they will beg people to buy their machines.

Hey, aren't you waiting for the tracking of Bit-tech A1 miner?
Where are they? They were NOT preorder and you have not received anything yet.

Preorder or stock is nothing  by  themselves.

It is the credibility that a company can show.

Yes, but at least you can complaint and take actions right away if it is not pre-order.  With pre-order, you have to wait 4 months to complaint or take actions... by that time it maybe too late.

If you don't like my numbers, propose some. Some that I can remind you of at Xmas.
I can't predict the difficulty and the exchange rate. I told you my numbers. I expect the SP30 to ROI in 2-3 months.

With respect RoadStress, how can you predict ROI if you can't predict difficulty and the exchange rate ? Is Spondoolies going to hand out free machines like KNC if the original purchases don't ROI in 2-3 months ?

If you don't like my numbers, propose some. Some that I can remind you of at Xmas.

Some how people have a hard time understanding that if a customer doesn't have a reasonable expectation of recovering the cost of a SP30 and making a profit commensurate with the risk taken, then the SP30 is not a viable product at the price it is offered.

FWIW, solarian is the guy with S1 machines, not me.

I can't predict the difficulty and the exchange rate. I told you my numbers. I expect the SP30 to ROI in 2-3 months.

Somehow people just don't get that. We have 60k TH/s hashing at more than 1W/GH right now. When the whole 60k TH/s will go on red we are still making a profit. Small(depending on your farm), but it will be a profit.

The major flaw in your logic is the fact that you think you will be making a "profit" just because the SP30 is earning more than it costs to operate.

In my view, the SP30 won't make a "profit" until it earns back the 10+ BTC it costs to purchase plus all expenses required to run it. Only then will you make a "profit".

Go buy BTC then. End of story.

Certainly hope it works out better for you than when I "knew" I'd have my 1.2th/s sierra last November.

Also looks like knc will be upgrading their neptune orders to 6th. So that's already one company SP will need to compete with. Although I'm still not convinced 20nm will prove viable.

They will ship the free stuff at the end of the queue. Good luck with that Smiley Let's hope they don't end up shipped as the FrankenJups or as early S2 batches.

I agree with you but you have to be very silly if you spend thousands of fiat for gear that you haven't studied well before.

You cannot study events until they've transpired. You can only speculate on what will transpire.

Sure, and historical studies lead to speculations.

I would love to order the sp30. They seam like a great company. If this was for a june delivery I would would be all over this because it would produce numbers I am comfortable with. Too much can change by AUG. difficulty increases rate could dramatically decrease price could sky rocket but here is also the chance of the opposite happening. This could be an amazing buy that all of us who have not jumped on board could be cursing why didn't I. I am more conservative in what I invest in.(somewhat) I at least what to know when I get the hardware I can reasonably expect to get an ROI. Of course things could change while I have it which will make it a loser but at the start it showed reasonable numbers. I will continue to watch this thread because they seam like a very good company.

Run a Bitcoin node.
i do think that the SP30 will be among the first ones (if not the first one) with that efficiency. AM is still struggling with their gen3 chip and it seems to be on pair with SP10 chips, KnC's 20nm chip will be around SP10 efficiency level too so it will take some time to catch up for the rest of the companies. As for China clones and such they may sell 1TH for 500$, but if they suck at power efficiency it's no good. By the time the competition will catch up with SP30 i'm sure that SP-Tech will be one step ahead.

This whole issue of power efficiency is a red herring, it is an end-of-life issue which is significant to profitability only when the cost of operating a piece of equipment approaches the value of the bitcoin it mines.

When difficulty is very high and bitcoin is cheap, miners have bigger problems than sucking the last 2 dollars a day profit from a large capital investment. Why don't you publish some numbers that will give your customers a reasonable expectation that they can recover the capital cost of an SP30 before you try selling this equipment on power efficiency ?

@raskul: don't bother trooper, you are on ignore till you start behaving L)L
Power efficiency is not just an end of life issue. I agree with your concepts that from an electricity cost point of view a more efficient miner simply has an extended end-of-life before it is uneconomic to run. But well before that you hit a much more pressing issue: you hit your total power draw cap.

In my main mining location (a basement, nearly complete - should be finished in Two Weeks (TM)) I have a hard cap at 7 kW power draw. The difference between 1W/GH and 0.5W/GH is 7TH/s vs 14TH/s.

So it's not so much trying to eek out pennies on the power bill, it's trying to get the most hash rate out of a fixed (limited) power draw.

Glow Stick Dance!
The poisonous invective and schadenfreude towards KNC demonstrated by RoadStress, Raskul, Str8Guy, Edgar and others in this thread has been one of the primary reasons why I have no interest in participating in the Spoondoolies Tech group buy for the SP30.

Guy, it does your company a great dis-service to allow your thread to be dominated by the rancor and and ill will of these people towards your competitors and it does your company a great dis-service to associate with this sentiment.

Let your products succeed or fail on their merits, not the problems of others.

I'm not sure how I got dragged into this. I don't own an SP10 nor do I have a preorder for an SP30 and absolutely no plans to join the group buy. I merely lust after the Spondoolies miners as I do with anything that is so undeniably sexy.

I have VERY strong opinions on KNC. But I don't think I've excessively used this thread to vent about my problems. If I have, I apologize. I have merely tried to warn people about my experiences with that particular competitor.

As much as I'd like to have Spondoolies gear, I'm done buying new equipment for the foreseeable future. I've reached maximum capacity and the thought of hosting my gear in a DC just doesn't appeal to my sensibilities.

No but do all asic manufacturers announce their future products months in advance?

Leading manfucturers did. See Bitmain

I recall bitmain showing up out of nowhere and shipping in stock hardware. Could be wrong though.

To be accurate , they showed up from nowhere, ANNOUNCING that will prepare a product and start selling when had it ready.

S2 was a preorder.

I am talking about announcements of new products.

At the moment there is nothing for the near future apart from Spond.

As about KNC, they have fucked it up. I dont believe they will implement half of what they promise now.
