All the action happens when I am up in the air, and the weekend to boot..Smiley... as usual the blockchain sorted itself out...I think you all sorted the network out without my help - in any case all I can do is direct to the longest blockchain..Smiley

And if anyone had my direct connection info, no use when I am 30,000 feet up...

No plans at this stage to change anything in the coin regarding difficulty changes

as for the link at https://www.hashco.ws/stats/, I think they just stopped mining...

Currently in Detroit airport waiting flight to fly to Washington..

Discouraged, yes, but at least one still pops in and out.  And if the retarget were longer, maybe the situation would get worse since other multipools would be less discouraged.

Perhaps narrowing the max difficulty change and averaging it over more blocks but still change each block.

The Concierge of Crypto
Tagcoin changes difficulty almost every block now. So multipools are discouraged from hopping on and off it.

I don't know what's going on anymore!  hehe.  Nothing new there.  Anyway...

It seems to me the difficulty adjustment strategy is the primary culprit in the orphans and forks... perhaps change the retarget to every 10 or 15 blocks based on the average of the last 40 or something?  That would provide a smoother adjustment.  Quick enough to respond to a rapid increase in hashrate but not too slow to leave the coin stranded at a high difficulty.  I am guessing the issues arise when a big pool jumps in and quickly solves a series of blocks and latency between that pool and the others results in different difficulty targets and eventually the two can diverge completely.

Love them or hate them, the pools designed to 'mine the most profitable coin' serve a good test purpose.  They deliver a shock to a coin that simulates a kind of actual attack.  If a coin can survive a giant multi coin pool coming and going, it should survive an actual attack.

I have not followed all of the alts closely, but has Megacoin ever had issues with forks and mass orphans?  It might not be a good comparison though as it doesn't have a POS component but it does retarget every block.  Any other coins that have been popular enough to be hit repeatedly by multi coin pools without issue?

Create smart contracts without coding skills!
I  had 10000+ tag coins in my wallet over a month. but receive no rewards, why?

1, Your wallet has to be open and online to earn POS coins as far as I'm aware. Is it?
2. You have $20,000 worth of TAG and you are bitching about $25??

Hmm, timing is suspicious.  Mark is away and publicised the fact, it's late Sunday in the Philippines and there would be no one in the office.  Is BCX playing around with us again?

What's BCX got against Tag???

There's purported evidence that in the past, he intentionally forked the coin for profit, and then helped fix it later on. That's what I've heard at least.

Very interesting. I was lurking this thread when all that happened. I seemed to me that BCX was using a fork of Tag to make a point to Cryptsy at the time or something, I guess there is more to it.

BOTpool is now the same the same as TAG, IT and HASH... and the Explorer on 27573 as well...

All pools and explorer are on 27574 at the moment with matching matching difficulty of 70.

Have look at the orphans on all the pools... BOT got hammered... even Scryptmining had an orphan... the only reason IT has no orphans is because there is only 5Mh/s there at the moment.

Fuse... here is the orphan problem exposed.

EDIT - Both times I have seen this... it started with BOT getting hit with literally double hash-rate... 2500Mh/s and 1900Mh/s... the only reason I picked it up either time is because I have miners spread across several pools and notice that 'current block' and 'difficulty' does not match... and each time BOT was holding massive hash-rate, then lagged out and then taken off-line and restarted. Last time BOT was offline for quite a while and TAG was the fail over as the hash-rate doubled quickly... but each time the difficulty drops dramatically and there are lots of orphans.

If this is in fact a difficulty issue, maybe the devs need to rethink the way the difficulty adjusts.  Instead of having a retarget every block, maybe set it to 10-20 blocks or even higher.  IDK.  It just seems like there are a lot of issues lately with the increased hashrate.  I just want to go to sleep and wake up knowing things aren't going to explode when I'm asleep.  Damn sleep messing everything up lol.

The Block Explorer just reset to 27536?!?!?!

Now to 27572!!!!

OK what's the deal with that? Last time Tagmining was on the same fork as the block explorer and stayed safe. This time Botpool was on the same fork as the block explorer, but this time the explorer gets reset, and Botpool lost out both times.  Sad

Is there a preference for what happens based on what any or all of the exchanges are on or something?

I think someone reset the block explorer, and it just synced with the majority of the pools that we on the higher block height.  If there was a preference to what pools or exchanges it follows, that would be a huge loophole that everyone would be bidding on to be "the one".  I would sell my wife for it just so I didn't have to worry that when go to sleep the pool is going to follow the wrong fork.  That's nerve-wracking.

Yeah I'm probably just reading too much into it all.

Alrighty folks, I'm going to go pass out.  Don't burn the world down while I'm asleep please.  If the blockchain gets jacked up, and Tagmining is borked and I'm not awake, please point your miners elsewhere until I can do damage control in the morning.

I'm seeing this:

2014-01-12 06:01:10   27571

Still 2 blocks behind the other pools.

EDIT- Looks like we're all on the same page right now... lets see how long that lasts.  Someone may have resynced the explorer wallet, or maybe Botpool is overtaking us.

So what do we do Fuse? Stop mining until it is sorted out or mine harder to be on the winning fork?

The fate of the world...

I'm not sure.  Can we verify what pools are on what chain right now.

I know Tagmining, Hashfaster, Cryptopools.com, and Cryptopool.it are all on the same block, but ahead of Botpool and the block explorer.

Botpool should be processing blocks faster than us, but they're not.  Not sure what the answer is at this point.

Anyone in at Marks office? This is a serious issue.

There was a dev from the office that popped into this thread the last time we forked.  Might be the best choice if Mark is still in the air or away from the interwebs.

I wish I had direct contact info.

I would say we are forked or at least running different block chains... the difficulty difference is too great... and the hash-rate is pretty much balanced... so there are two blockchains... this happened yesterday... not sure why Mark did not take some precautionary measures... is the block explorer the standard?

Mark was going on the block explorer yesterday... so I would bank on that, but if we have to race to another block, the other pools might prevail.

Hmm, timing is suspicious.  Mark is away and publicised the fact, it's late Sunday in the Philippines and there would be no one in the office.  Is BCX playing around with us again?

I wouldn't think it's anything nefarious, just really bad timing.  I don't think BCX would have anything to do with this.  I think this is something that all started with the orphan issues I brought up last week.
