Haha I know I'm just a newbie, but I've also gone with about 80% XCH / 20% VIA. There's a bright future and huge room for growth for both, but out of the two XCH seems more undervalued at the moment.

After reading around, finding some Darkcoin faces here and also because masternode seems to be as involved, I'd like to invest something to get started.
However, I'm still not very clear if it's one or both that I would need to invest in. So, if you wanted to speculate 20 BTC into a project because of some of the people involved, which of these two would you go for, or would you split the 20 BTC equally between both?

Personally I'd go 80% XCH/ 20% VIA just because of the upward potential on XCH. Most on this thread (except maybe Masternode) will tell you the exact opposite of my recommendation though.

the point is let's get comparisons with NXT out of this thread and start thinking about why a certain group likes pumping and dumping VIA. it is following exactly the same pattern as the last run up. i was starting to get excited again, then now this.

I'm not the one who brought up the topic and thus invited comparisons of VIA with NXT.
Nobody claimed that they were being "forced to buy NXT." That's just your crappy strawman; have fun knocking it down!
Stating facts is not "hate" but I understand you need to emotionalize the debate because the facts are not in NXT's favor.

Via is a premined IPO too
No that's wrong. There was an ICO for the first VIA block, which as carried out in a for more ethical and transparent manner than NXT's shady deals.

The comparison is really VIA versus NXT...
XCH and NXT Asset Exchange pretty much do exactly the same thing.
NXT is more refined and easier to use and has about 200 live assets...
So it has a clear edge right now...
But VIA could make up ground fast if Zynga is serious.

Nobody cares about NXT, which a bloated premined insider-trading IPO scam just waiting for the SEC kibosh.
Java? LOL GTFO... Why not go all the way and make that crapware based on Adobe Flash?
Metcalfe's Law doesn't apply to speculators, the only people who will ever use NXT.
OTOH, the clean and light VIA/XCH platform is perfect for applications like Zynda Poker, ePeso, etc.
And when treechains come to the fore, nothing can stop us!

It will be nice when this relentless selling whale runs out of via and goes away, amazed at how effective this strategy is at lowering a coins value, definately stimulates me to look at creating my own bot to use on other coins.

I think it would be better for them to use clearinghouse if it is possible that way, imagine if each company wanted to build their own decentralised ecosystem, what a lot of work and complication.
Clearinghouse is a great platform, would be a shame to not use it.

I could see Zynga doing a similar maneuver that Overstock did. They could hire the Via and XCH team and build
a separate asset system based on XCH that would still run on VIA. I would think they would want as much control
as possible but still maintain a decentralized core currency and mining operation for the backbone through Viacoin.
Thoughts?

I for one believe this is true, and makes absolute sense for Zynga, and a HUGE opportunity for viacoin adoption.
Nonetheless, for those who think this is a quick profit, I disagree. It's a patience game that can take months... but the potential reward is just as big.
To put things in a more technical perspective -
For those waiting for a Zynga press-release any day now, I have to say [from some experience], that i doubt if it will come soon.
The reason is not because of Zynga being a Public company, but rather due to-
a) Pete Hawley says that the goal is to provide [real-money] Zynga Poker on a global scale. In simple words, this means a bypass on US regulations... and while this may be achievable, i strongly doubt if any executive will run to the media and declare it. I'd expect them to first build it, and then declare and launch at once. Once the baby is born, it's easier to support it with the regulator.
b) Pete Hawley says - "the spinoff will...". Spining-offs are structural vehicles that require SEC filings, prospectus publication, legal and accounting structure, etc. It is not done in a day, and it normally is not "published" to the market before a draft filing is handed to the SEC.
To conclude- I believe it will happen... and I believe overstock will follow... and treechains will follow... but it will take some more time.
And traders with no patience will miss it, or they will find it hard to accumulate many viacoins because supply is short.
