i don't understand why people are still stuck to this coin  Huh

When it's dead, it shouldnt not be kept alive any longer, doesn't make any sense.

In my opinion forking it might cause an abrupt, total loss of value to the holders, coin is not worth the risk.

I'm working on updating Auroracoin from the current core to the latest bitcoin core with a better difficulty retargeting implemented. That should take care of these kind of problems.

what kind of (or whcih) difficulty retargeting algorithm are you planning to use?

The plan is to use DigiShield.

Great. I read an overview and it sure sounds like it fixes exactly the problems we have (multipools mainly)

How do you plan to roll it out? It's a hard-fork, right? So it means we need at least the exchange(s), pools and blockexplorers on board and also make a big fuzz so users will update...

I think that DigiShield should fix one of the main problems we are having here and that is the multipools like you pointed out. Beside that the new bitcoin core also prevents various possible attacks on the network that the coin is vulnerable to now.

Yes it's a hard fork and we need all the pools, exchanges and blockexplorers on board

My estimate is that the code will be ready with basic testing in 10-14 days. Then it is just a question on how much we want to run it in testing before we officially launch it. I assume that it won't be easy to get everyone to update in sync but since we are very small atm this is the perfect time to do this in my opinion.

The thing is that this might not be the only hard fork we might need to do. I was hoping that we would not need to hard fork more than once but it might be that we will have to as these stalls are a serious threat to the coin. Other reasons to hard fork might be to take over the premine addresses (highly undesired but necessary if balduro doesn't burn the premine), Merge mine with some other coin/s if we can't get large pools to merge mine our coin or to implement a PoS along with PoW if merge mining will be off the table for some reason.

we found a block

reducing hashrate...

EDIT: turns out it was me who found the block and the next one, too.

difficulty back to 89

BTC ~0.02 well invested, I would say ;-)

EDIT2: oh wow, and due to the lower difficulty the pool I mine in (hamsterpool) hops on the coin with 2GH/s (it didn't mine the coin before, I was the only one mining it)

Thank you!

Looks like difficulty is climbing again. Your troops may have to be redeployed.

You're welcome. It was fun, too. Now that I know it's that easy to rent mining power I can do it again anytime it becomes necessary (and so can anyone else with 10 mBits to spare)

It's really quite easy to do... the hardest part was finding a pool that was compatible with nicehash.com (the marketplace I selected to rent the miners). Most of them had "too low difficulty", some didn't allow mining specific coins directly. The fourth or sixth one I tried finally worked: hamsterpool.com.

I honestly didn't think it would work. I thought the coin had suffered one of these timewarp attacks and would be stuck for good. It was desperation and curiosity that drove me to try this.

You can imagine it made me quite happy when I finally found that block.

on bter ?

no, on nicehash.com. Was renting some hashrate to mine that dreaded block. Actually it cost me less, about BTC 0.005. It's amazing what kind of hashrate one can rent on short notice for a good price. Of course economically it was not a good deal, the 12.5 AUR I mined hardly make up for the cost, but I wanted to get the coin going again...

Great work Molecular, thanks for solving the problem. To prevent this kind of problem the coin has to be mergemined, like Skarfur pointed out.

I'm throwing 100 200 MHash/s on the problem for a while.

Not sure that will solve it.

doesn't look good from my node.

stuck since 24 hours at block 105700

any ideas?

Guess we need some benevolent miner to throw some hashing at it.

This coin needs to be fixed, stat.

Just move the price up on cryptsy substantially and pools might hop to AUR. Difficulty is extremely high, though. Can someone calculate at what price we might get some hashpower?
