When you send the file to the blockchain, it is not an executable, and it won't be. Base64 encoded bits. So no risk at all. After a transaction is sent you can't modify it.

I mean, there is no check (that I know of ), on the data so that a malicious node could delete/overwrite/alter the data inside the blocks and seed to other peers that would download the wrong data causing havoc on the blockchain.

mstfck answered you just after me - see post above

What if i modify the data inside a transaction? How do other peers can protect themselves?
Seems something critical.
where do you want to modify it? In your local blockchain?

And yes, I'll ask developer if 'proof-of-store' can be added now, maybe it is possible.
Maybe the dev is more interested in an open discussion here, instead of a private conversation with you Wink
Oh, and BTW I am not bashing early adopters (I have profited of being an early adopter of many coins), just stressing that putting most coins on hands of early adopters is not on the coins best interest IMHO.

TBH I am not much interested in trading Datacoin but I am really interested to see what can be built on top of it. It seems the OP has great plans (for example personal chains ) and would be great to be able to discuss some of them here (or elsewhere) with him.

I meant that I'll ask developer to look at this message - not only private talk Smiley
Applications are coming, I'm sure - I have some info about it, but don't want to reveal all just now. Projects developers will release some info themselves soon Wink

The block reward compared to storage cost is ridiculously low. 500 DTC/block would make sense.
A balance should be met between available storage and available coins, and storage should be expensive because you are paying for a distributed, permanent, censorship resistant storage.
However something must be done to reward those who keep that storage online, I recall a thread here in the alt section that talked about proof-of-storage . Maybe the dev wants to take a look at that thread.

I'm one of early adopters (yes, I'm speaking about it decently), and I donate to many people when they do anything for Datacoin, I'll donate to 'store files forever' project (look on main site), and any other projects that will be interesting and useful.
Both wallets use the whole blockchain, of course.

Reward is not 10x or 100x less than initial - it is only <2 times lower (compare it with many other coins that decreased 10x, 100x after such great difficulty increase)

If you look at primecoin, you see the reward is still >10 /block. I think it will stay that way for datacoin too.
There was not much block mined <15 because the difficulity jumped really fast.

This could be really a problem. The mining reward is so tiny, why should people mine long-term? If the difficulty rises to 10 in about a week all home-users will be locked out, unless they use a pool. But an army of PrimeMiners + one or two pools will not build a stable network. It will be centralized. I'm still mining, but thinking everyday about stopping. The block reward compared to storage cost is ridiculously low. 500 DTC/block would make sense.

Another thing that bothers me about Datacoin is why has the block reward gone down so fast ? Most coins are now in hand of early adopters whom may or may not be interested in storing data in the blockchain. A steady reward would allow for a steady amount of newly generated coins to be used for what the coin is designed to. If the inflation is so insane, storing data on the blockchain will also be too expensive.

And finally a question (and further comment) about the Datacoin wallets, do both wallet versions (normal and HP) store the full data blockchain ? Since storing the data doesn't seem mandatory one could live with only a coin wallet version (without the data) defeating the purpose of the coin. And BTW if storage is so expensive, those who keep the full blockchain available in the network should be rewarded, otherwise there is not much incentive to keep a growing blockchain in your hardrive.

Is there someone willing to sell Datacoin bellow market price (or donate) to me ? DLjcy3vu8KhMGbqbEtRcrGQUEweuMpiZqs
I have been building a website to help people get/put data from the blockchain, the site is almost done but I want to do some testing before opening it to beta, it's just I don't want to spend my few DTC testing.
Considering a full block of data costs almost 50 DTC, storage is REALLY EXPENSIVE and DTC are really hard to mine in comparison.

On a sidenote, is the testnet working ? I might go this way if I can't get cheap or free DTC ...

Expect a semi-open beta in a day or two (or three Smiley ).

how many coins do you need?

I think we should see pool pop-up soon

oocook5u still not online, but I checked repo and....
Important update: getwork is fixed, seems that now it's possible to point external miners to daemon. Our team will check that soon and inform you. If result is OK, pools will come very soon!
waiting for good news... Smiley

Yay! If any pool open, please post the data also in this thread. Solo mining DTC sucks.

What fix are you talking about? Is there a problem with Datacoin?

I mean getwork fix in daemon - it is not problem for the network, it is only small fix for pool creation.
