1) In order to bank coins, I need to return to the spawn area and stay for a single turn? This won't result in my hunter/general's destruction?

Exactly.  As soon as you enter the spawn area, your coins are banked.  You then have 30 blocks time to leave.  (You can even predefine a path that enters and then immediately leaves the spawn area as well, this will also bank your coins.)

2) If I stay in the spawn area for 30 turns, my hunter/general dies, right? Do I get a refund on the 200 HUC creation cost if I die in this manner?

Yes.  You get the full 200 HUC refunded (no miner fee) if you die due to the 30 block time limit.  Note that this does not apply if you would die also due to another cause, like poisoning or being killed by some attack.  It also does not apply to hunters created by collecting hearts, just to the generals for which you actually also paid the 200 HUC in the first place.

3) The only way to die besides disasters and staying in spawn area for too long is to be killed by another exploding hunter/general, right? This means that it's generally uneconomical to kill someone carrying less than 200 HUC...?

You are correct about the ways to die.  But note that a killed general "contains" and drops the 200 HUC it is worth, so you can collect that as well.  In effect, it is "economical" to kill them even if they are carrying much less than 200 HUC.  Even more, since your own general also drops 200 HUC, if you are able to collect both of them with a second hunter of yours, you'll be positive even if no coins are carried at all.

4) Is there still a distinction between hunters and generals? I thought you used to get one general and two hunters for a single buy-in, but now you only get one player controlled character, so does this just mean every player on the map is a general? Or a hunter?

No, the distinction is still there.  Only generals drop 200 HUC or refund you when "recycled" in the spawn area.  Hunters can still be created by collecting hearts.

I've been walking around the map with a single hunter/general for the last day or so, managing to collect about 30 coins or so, and I have a few questions about game mechanics that I'm unsure about:

1) In order to bank coins, I need to return to the spawn area and stay for a single turn? This won't result in my hunter/general's destruction?

2) If I stay in the spawn area for 30 turns, my hunter/general dies, right? Do I get a refund on the 200 HUC creation cost if I die in this manner?

3) The only way to die besides disasters and staying in spawn area for too long is to be killed by another exploding hunter/general, right? This means that it's generally uneconomical to kill someone carrying less than 200 HUC...?

4) Is there still a distinction between hunters and generals? I thought you used to get one general and two hunters for a single buy-in, but now you only get one player controlled character, so does this just mean every player on the map is a general? Or a hunter?

1) yes go over the spawn area and you'll bank and no, you won't be killed for that
2) right and yes
3) no, it's impossible that an hunter value actually is less then 200 (except hearted one, the one created picking up hearts on map). anyway when you kill someone you must consider that 4% of current value goes to miners after a hunter die and drop coins, and when you bank, another 10% goes to miners, so do your math
4) actually they are pretty the same, when you create a team, you get just a general, if you pick heart a normal hunter is created but with latest changes, only 1 heart every 500 blocks (if i remember right) is generated, so it's hard to find hearts

After you have practiced a bit with the QT, try my client (would seem another game) and you'll have more indepth information and available features (Windows only)

very very much appreciated Bucktotal, as always much gratitude.

I've split with domob - not sure if he has forum access till midweek, but i'm sure he will give you his thanks.

I've got half from snailbrain, thank you very much!  I think that Huntercoin really has a great community, still after the long time since its launch and also the value decline (although it seems that price is rising again now).

I'm currently playing (while working) using both the livemap (to check enemies paths) + QT on a low spec PC (with mechanical hard drive)... plays fine atm.
starting up the client (loading block index) and closing it down takes a good few minutes though

The live map updates as fast as the qt.

Note: The Live Map needs some performance optimizations - with a path selected and UI open, there seems to be quite a lot of cpu usage (on this low spec PC), i've also noticed that if kept running for over 24hours it doubles the ram usage from around 230mb to 500mb+.
Either some memory leak or not flushing previous gamestates correctly.

Just spawned my first hunter Smiley

To snailbrain or whoever is maintaining huntercoin.org, these instructions seem a bit dated:
http://huntercoin.org/information/how-to-mine/human/

There don't appear to be hearts anymore, and it seems like 200 HUC buys you a single player, not a general and some buddies.

Also, yellow team seems to dominating Shocked

Edit: I guess actually red team after checking huntercoin.info.

i will fix that tonight (website)

All synced up, didn't have to redownload anything, and my original wallet.dat worked when I just used 7zip to unzip instead of windows built in thingamajig. Thanks for the help Smiley

you're welcome, i was facing the same problem so i found the cause Cheesy

Edit: is there any disaster alert webpage or anything, so I can know when it's a good time to buy a general?

In my client (see signature) i've already different sound alerts, but of course they play just on the pc running the client

I'm planning to do an Android client extension (that requires anyway a running instance of my client on your system) that among other things, will sends alerts to the phone/tablet
Probably i'll do an app that will send to phone/tablet generic alerts even if no one is running any of my client instance but for this i think snailbrain client will release it sooner, probably

Reposting this here, as it was removed as a "minor update and advertisement" post from the altcoin discussion board... not sure why considering all the other altcoin spam Smiley

Live Map Downloads at the bottom....

Dear Fellow Hunters and Crypto Enthusiasts,

In case you are unaware what Huntercoin is - Huntercoin is both a Crypto Currency and a Massively Multi-player Online Game.  I like to call it Crypto Through Human Mining. It is quite probably the only really decentralized and serverless P2P MMO which currently exists in the world.

Unlike other cryptocurrencies which state to be "Crypto Game Currencies" and are only used as a currency with external applications/games, Huntercoin's virtual universe is completely decentralized and the currency is generated within the virtual world, in a trustless manner.
Imagine Bitcoin and altcoins in which you mine blocks with your hardware, and then imagine Huntercoin in which you mine using skill and your own time within a virtual world. Again, this is not like other cryptocoins which claim one thing but are, in fact, another.

It is also notable to mention that Huntercoin is the first “dual algo” blockchain, which can be mined both with SHA256 and scrypt.  Each algo has its own difficulty, and can be merge-mined with other blockchains of the respective algorithm (Bitcoin and Litecoin, for instance).
Huntercoin also includes a decentralized censorship resistant chat.
There will be a total of 42 Million Coins in circulation.
It is currently the only fork of the other most innovative altcoin existing, which is  Namecoin.

You can see a time lapse video from inside the virtual decentralized universe here (if you like watching ants, you might like this):-

Now that's the background over with. Apologies for the slow progress of Huntercoin over the last several months. We have had a few set backs, but without going into the details, we are now progressing much more rapidly. Our team is absolutely committed to making Huntercoin a rewarding experience and, in turn, see it go mainstream.

TIP: Now is the time for investors and miners to take advantage of the current situation before Huntercoin is accessible to the masses.

Latest Updates:

Client performance and blockchain size:
Over the last 12 months, we have improved Huntercoin's client performance on many levels. And although downloading and verifying the approximately 600k blocks is a pretty heavy task, once you are synced onto the latest blocks, everything should run smoothly and fast (even on older hardware).

The chain is no longer increasing in size at the rate it was early in Hunterscoin's life due to alterations in the game mechanics (fees and costs):  While it was estimated the chain would bloat to around 25-35gb by the end of last year, we were able to prevent that with the changes. Together with some pruning logic implemented, the chain is now roughly 10 GiB in size.
To skip the painful sync you can also download the latest chain from http://chain.huntercoin.org/

And what's to come:

Over the last two or three months, our very own lead developer was awarded a donation of F2pool(Discus Fish) to re-implement Namecoin onto the latest Bitcoin Core (see https://github.com/domob1812/namecore/ ), improving and updating Namecoin's very old code (from around Bitcoin version 0.3). This is now being used by F2pool/Discuss Fish and others.

He is now in the early process of doing the same for Huntercoin, so that we will be able to see those great benefits also.  This will also enable to make use of pruning efforts being made upstream by the Bitcoin developers.
Although he will not be creating the QT (GUI/Game Graphics) portion of the client, we will be releasing a free-to-use basic Unity3d client for this very purpose (see at the bottom for a preview). This client will connect to the daemon in a similar way as the Mithrilman Client Edition ( http://www.mithrilman.com/Huntercoin ), although it will only feature a basic interface (similar to the QT).

+ See the bottom of the page for our progress on instant access on many platforms - no chain download required..

Reducing bots and making the game more fun:

Dominating ( and “bot masters”), who control the map, make it difficult to harvest a significant amount of coins and prevent good distribution. Since the current cost per hunter is so low, it is also pointless and "not fun" to attack them. The current update will see the cost per general increase 20x (this is live).

Although previous updates had reduced the amount of hunters a bot master and/or dominator can control, the changes were not enough. The hardfork which has just passed (although won't really take effect until the next pending disaster - wait for that), will make it difficult and uneconomical for any one person to control more than 50-100 Hunters.

A human player without bot mastering tools and/or multiple clients, can only control a finite number of hunters, and although autonomous hunters are currently "dumb", they are still able to dominate the map through sheer numbers. The upcoming update should yield more space on the map (less hunters/blockades) and make PvP meaningful and fun.
Dominating through numbers and/or Botting in the game should become much harder/expensive.  And even though the changes make it also a little more expensive for “normal” users to play, that is a small price to pay for reducing map domination.

This is not to say there won't be some more tweaks down the road, as there will most definitely be.

Now is the time to get into Huntercoin.

Extra:

We had hoped to release a working mobile version with a centralized server some time last year, hoping we could have a client accessible to everyone, not just those who are crypto enthusiasts, allowing instant play from anywhere on many devices. Unfortunately this did not happen due to unforeseen circumstances, but, we are now back on track, and are now pleased to release the first step in this process :

We Introduce Huntercoin Unity 3d Live Map.

Although not playable, this should give you an idea of performance and compatibility with your devices. The map should update within a second after new blocks are detected by the main daemon on our server. There is a need for some cloud based distribution when we have a significant amount of viewers/players, as well as some security measures and small bug fixes but this will be done soon.
We have also tested with over 50k hunters on the map and scrolling performance is not affected.
