Devs told, that they don't want to Poloniex right now, first they need to finish with dAps, then they will ask comunity to fill the formto add the coin to Polo.

Thank you both for your replies. Good project, hopefully it goes the distance! Will be researching this a little more before a purchase.

FWIW below are some random / unorganized quotes from devs and community members I’ve collected. They aren’t nec my own opinions, but they provide a rough understanding of what SHIFT’s up to I think.

—Phantom is the flagship "product" (I guess you could call it a dApp) but I don't believe the primary purpose is to act as an SDK. The primary purpose is to act as the gateway to the Shift network. Shift's focus is decentralized hosting and Lisk's focus is dapps and sidechains, although since they're based on the same codebase, in theory they could each do both. … the teams have different focuses and different goals. Shift and Lisk have contributed to each other to make the codebase the better in the past, it's not really a competition. … Shift is focused on decentralized hosting and is not a direct competitor with Eth. Also a big differentiation is the use of IPFS, which I don't think has been done before in crypto.

—Decentralized Web (like maidsafe), + decentralized storage (like siacoin), + decentralized smarts contracts (like ethereum and lisk), all in one, but the first to implement IPFS in a really successful way, there are many other features

—If we don’t encounter too big bumps in the road, we will release a first version of Phantom at the end of Q2 on testnet!!

—Hosting websites at servers, p2p connected

—Shift is kind of like maid, only without encryption and tor, but it will be available under normal DNS, so shift will be better for adoption. The other 'competitors' ignore the fact that over half the webs traffic is mobile also. Shifts scalablity is huge using lisk codebase, nothing else could really be more perfect for a decentralized internet solution in my opinion.

—Decentralized hosting solution in parallel of a decentralized application platform. With IPFS, you can pin content that you want to see hosted forever … the blooming of Web 3.0 with an ecosystem built in from the get go, which SHIFT is the spearhead of. No single point of failure, freedom of creation, built-in payment system.

—An easy way to describe it is that we are trying to build a parallel Internet for decentralized content distribution.

Shift Coin, Phantom/IPFS the new Web 3.0
101 forging delegates but unlimited number of ipfs hosting nodes.
So if you want to be a Hosting node, you can make money and not be a forging delegate.
Just have to host data.

Total supply is in the top of the explorer (https://explorer.shiftnrg.org/). About 10mil currently. Annual inflation is 1mil coins or so. Every 27 seconds one coin is forged.

I'll just do a quoteception:

How do Maidsafe and Shift differ a lot? I am not well versed in the technical details, but on the surface Shift sounds like an interesting project.

The Maidsafe website talks about files being split into parts and distributed throughout the network, Shift talks about 101 delegates - are files also split into parts like Maidsafe?

Why is there a limit of 101 delegates? - does Maidsafe also have such a limit? It seems having the files spread across more hosts would be more secure.

I am also wondering, does shift have it's own associated domain suffix? Is there a way that the use of a DNS is not required?

Sorry for potentially naive questions, perhaps they have been already answered but this is quite a large thread.

-Shift and Maidsafe's final products will be similar I believe. Here's a quote (copy+paste) from Ralf, one of the lead devs, from the Ryver channel;

"Hi, you can't really compare the development of Maid with Shift. But you might be able to compare the results soon. Many coins/devs offer idea's, but they are way to optimistic about getting the work actually done.

I think we are running a realistic project here. Building a bridge to combine todays best web technologies into a product with endless possibilities.

IPFS is an amazing tool for p2p hosting and browsing, and so much more. Take a look at IPLD for example, great future ahead.
LISK has build a great blockchain codebase with dpos consensus, plus the ability to create sidechains for dapps. Grown really stable the last couple of months."

-I'm not sure of if files will be split up or not, but I know the intent is to decentralize web hosting, so the files will be distributed around the network.

-There is no limit on delegates, I think technically there can be any number that's uneven so you can't hit a 50/50 consensus and break off into two chains. For example, I think ARK has 51 and it's also based on the LSK DPOS system. 101 was likely chosen since that's what LSK had and it provided a good opportunity to have a lot of forging spots without being an unreachable number for Shift at the time. Not sure on how Maidsafe will run it. The 101 delegates are mainly for keeping the chain running, they will not be the only ones who can host data. Once Phantom is released I think anyone will be able to host data and earn Shift to some extent. I don't have a direct quote for this one, but I think I remember it being said in the Ryver channel.

-Not sure on this one, but I recall it being discussed in the Ryver channel at one point.

Do shift have a slack?

The Slack was discontinued I think. They have a Ryver (similar service) account, though. Sign-up here: shiftnrg.ryver.com

It's not very often I buy at an ATH, but this project has fantastic potential so I will be holding SHIFT long term so even if it does dip under my buying price I won't mind.

My only regret was not getting in sooner, as I was just researching this coin the other day; but I didn't expect it to take off so suddenly so I wasn't in a hurry to buy it. I was going to check out a few other projects before deciding which one to invest in first. I could have got in at half the price!  Cry

Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the direction of coin specs? Can't find the total supply? Also, how do you think this will compare to maidsafe and why?

Cheers

Guys, I finished testing the SHIFT pool and starting June 1, I start paying 25% of the profit for my voters. Statistics here: https://shiftpool.pw

I think a lot are paying out 50%. How exactly do you vote?
