I think especially those country's without widespread internet network / smartphone penetration could be a big additional and especially new market. Beside, you give the poor a chance to get a bit less poor believing your currency will inflate with the years.

I don't see what advantages a cryptocurrency can give them. From what I understand, they already have a pretty good system based on SMS.

Cryptos could make it easier for the rest of the world to help those poor areas, but then you need local gateways, willing to exchange simcoins back to local (pseudo)money.

Unless you can download a sandwich, simcoins give you nothing - they are no more useful than likes on Facebook.

I am certainly not gonna hire a branding agency on a budget of 140 BTC. Why don't I go buy a couple of Aeron chairs while I'm at it? Smiley

To the dev: i have a potential idea regarding the "free" distribution. Would it be technically possible to create a cellphone payment gateway and distribute coins that way? This way people still have to pay a bit via sms/fixed call (giving away free money isn't very serious and bad for the exchange rate) and its potentially easily adopted all over the world. This way SIMcoin would make a lot more sense too. Again, who am i..... Just an idea.

It's an interesting idea. Anyone feeling like doing a research on it? Smiley

What services are available, how well they work with different countries, how much does it cost.

Also, this will probably require a real identity, so somebody will have to setup it on my behalf.

And it probably makes more sense to integrate this with a mobile wallet, so when you first install it, you will have an option to convert a small amount of real money into some simcoins to play with.

Simcoin is fine, people keep thinking the name is the only thing that sells something, yeah if i needed to create a new coin that was a clone of say black coin, i would need to create a name that would help and manage gathering a bunch of fucked up retards into 1 room screaming this is the next blackcoin , how would i achieve this.....simple call it white coin. then people who are focused soley on the name of the coin and have no more than 3 brain cells to rub together will instantly think....."omg black coin mades loads of monies, white coin is the same as black coin yeashhhhhhh"

Simcoin is selling simplicity and what promotes the adoption of a technology by the mass population? oh yeah simplicity , making it so easy to use a chimp could use it is what give any technology an advantage , especially considering 90% of the population are of the same intelligence of chimps. the majority of the people in this forum don't count technically they are still early adopters of a young technology and can at least use it, but try to explain bitcoin to your "average" person, how it works and how you use it, 2 weeks later they still not going to have a fucking clue. so yes simplicity is what sells technology and provides for mass adoption which is what every single crypto currencies main goal is .

simcoin also may bring to mind to some people "simulation" , which this pretty much is. an experiment placed onto the masses to see if they accept it. If they do the price goes up.

Now even considering all of this , plus the dev explaining more than once that if another name was suggested that made everyone think, yes that is perfect! then he would likely change it. Still there is someone stating the name needs to be changed without offering up any suggestions himself..........thus adding further proof for the need of simplicity in a world full of chimps in clothes

Reading your post history i have a strong feeling you are one of those chimps that made a bunch of people rich in less than a year. Be it with rig rental or direct investment in currency. All i wanted to give a new perspective: if you get enough funds MAYBE its a good idea to watch out for a branding company. Normally, the better ones, don't work with chimps. Good luck Smiley. To the dev: i really wonder whats the difference between Facebook likes and your simcoin idea?

Then let it be enabled by default in the client?

Or... or... we could remove the freaking checkbox and just encrypt it by default.

All I'm saying is that encryption doesn't have to be built-in to the protocol itself.

Why not?

Checksums should not be in protocol - it's clients' job. Encryption should not be in protocol - it's clients' job. What is it with this attitude in NXT?

Too many things are afterthought patches, that's why they are in clients, where they don't belong. And that's what upsets me.

Yeah, let's add a checkbox, so they had a chance to forget encrypting an important message.

...and in fact, they are purposefully (by default) made to be non-encrypted so people can choose use to use their own encryption. As an example, the internet is not encrypted by default as well - encryption is built on-top of it.

Default encryption doesn't prevent you from adding your own layer of encryption on top of it, if you need it.

People can use encryption for their emails. Any one they prefer. How many actually do it?

The beauty of a built-in default encryption is that, as a user, I don't have to worry about anything. I don't even need to generate keys and do all the other setup tasks, like for PGP.

And another blessing is compatibility. When you have one, strong encryption for everybody - it's good. When you have to use different encryption schemes for each of your recipients - not so much...

This is easy enough to include in clients. In fact, I'll eat my hat if there isn't a client that let's users check a little box (or equivalent) to encrypt their message.

What are you talking about?

What a checkbox has to do with anything Huh

Let me conclude this naming discussion:

the name Simcoin will be replaced if somebody suggests an alternative and everybody will overwhelmingly like it.

If somebody wants to pay a branding agency for that - I don't mind.

For now let's just stick with Simcoin.

It would be like "simple pc security" or "simple online bank".

What's wrong with "simple pc security" or "simple online bank"?!

Do you think those things need to be complicated to work?

I can imagine a SIMCARD...

I can imagine Simcoin Card. I can imagine SimPlastic. I can imagine Simchip.

When trying to find a suitable, LONG TERM, name you should consider: it best have a meaning, should be easy to pronounce in most languages, easy to remember and in best case, no association with other words or bad feelings.

Except "association with other", Simcoin satisfies all of them Smiley

Honestly, I don't think names are all that important. That's another kind of bikeshed issue.

Language is flexible, I posted examples before. The essence is what's important.

If people can use Rechtsschutzversicherungsgesellschaften, they can use Simcoin Smiley

Ofcourse, but Rechtsschutzversicherungsgesellschaften are all about the Euro's :0.

I am sure most people won't feel confident buying simple coins and needs much more explanation than necessary. It would be like "simple pc security" or "simple online bank". Beside, SIMcard, SIMsons, the SIMs and probably more associations that would harm the original, great, intention. Really, if you can make your idea work, this is what people are waiting for. I can imagine a SIMCARD (like the bankcard/creditcard) pay terminal next to visa's, with no difference in transaction speed. But o, which Simcard?

Your new project is about a simple to use system, security, speed, groundbreaking tech. The "coin" (i rather call it a digit since coins are not virtual) is not even SIMple. Its just between the ears. A name to describe your coin best would be GENiousprotocolwhileeasytousecoin.

For the name; if you want something making sense, long term, play with Erga Omnes. I think if you make the first acceptable (thus simple) digital currency made for mass adoption, its worth considering a name with great care. Even, when enough funds raised, i would rather advice to hire a specialized company to  do so. Sim (simple) i guarantee you WILL do harm to your currency. There are too many reasons to describe.

In my simple opinion the Chinese did it perfect, although i wouldn't advice for international adoption. RMB/Renminbi > peoples money. While still sounds logical.

one RMB, hundred RMB, million RMB.
one Renminbi, hundred Renminbi, and so on.
many rmb's
many renminbi's

Other real life currency (Fiat)
USD > Dollar > Dollars
Euro > Euro  > Euros
Rub  > Ruble > Rubles
GBP >  Pound > Pounds

When trying to find a suitable, LONG TERM, name you should consider: it best have a meaning, should be easy to pronounce in most languages, easy to remember and in best case, no association with other words or bad feelings.

Till today, i cannot find a virtual currency that has a name suitable for mass adoption. The first simple/safe* coin with a simple yet logical (don't want to argue about whats logical) name will break trough more barriers than most people can imagine.

OP needs to be more humble imo. The position he is in has clearly gone to his head.

Humble has nothing to do with it.

Yes, it will take some time, but what's the alternative? Design by a committee?

The core must be implemented by a single person, adding more people will just slow things down, because now I will have to do the work with somebody else's hands.

Imagine a surgeon or a pilot trying to work like that. It's possible, but they are better off doing the job themselves. There are no shortcuts here.

Time is needed to be thorough, there is no silver bullet. The work simply needs to be done and skipping it will give us the same frankencoin most other coins are - a bunch of components and libraries thrown together in a hurry.

No, thank you.

----

The usual approach is to release quickly, hype it, and then keep hard-forking and patching it for a year.

I'd rather work for a year and then release something more or less complete.

Yes, that takes some balls. On both my part and yours.

P.S. How's that for humble  Grin

It's going to take forever for a single person to implement all those features. I doubt we'll see this operational and launched before 2015. Don't believe me? Check out emunie. The guy behind that is a top programmer who's been working fulltime on it and it's been almost a year now.

So clearly you have more than 100 BTC invested, why are you keeping 20% of the total currency for yourself?

20% is a lot

I am still amused by the people who think 130 BTC is a lot of money.

Sure, if I were a scammer, 130 BTC would be a lot for a few weeks of work.

But what if it's a real project? In that case it's a pittance. Do you know how much it would cost to send just one guy to just one conference? Especially if he doesn't go empty-handed? Or buy a radio spot?

How much MaidSafe raised recently? 6 million dollars? And even that is not much, considering they have a whole team of people.

130 BTC is nothing.
