Hey all, i now have a Ubuntu 17 server running 24/7. I am following these instructions but I get an error installing the dependencies.

http://sterlingcoin.org/support/linux/install-sterlingcoin-wallet-linux/
https://github.com/Sterlingcoin/Sterlingcoin-1.6.0.1-Release/blob/master/doc/build-unix.txt

error:

Sorry, that documentation is in need of revision. We will do so asap. I can not speak for Ubuntu 17 specifically, but any version of libdb dev will get you running. Something like 'sudo apt-get libdb5.3-dev' and the corresponding c++ library, lindb5.3++-dev in this example. Sorry you have encountered error messages.

I hope this helps and the documentation will be addressed.

thats worked! Sterlingcoin has another 24/7 node Smiley

As promised,

Window and Mac users, here is a recent SLG blockchain snapshot: http://Sterlingcoin.org/SLGsnapshotAtBlock856500wDB6.1.zip

Linux users, you can use the above snapshot if you compiled SLG with DB 6.1, or a DB 5.3 version is here: http://Sterlingcoin.org/SLGsnapshotAtBlock856500wDB5.3.zip and is also from block height 856500, dated 8 Nov., 2017.

If you are unfamiliar with snapshoting, it is the fastest way to bring your wallet in sync with the network. Much like bootstrapping, but skipping the importing step. The blockchain files are directly written to disk as a copy, hence 'snapshot'.

Download the above linked .zip file (~550 MB) and extract the entire contents within your Sterlingcoin data directory. On Windows, your Sterlingcoin data directory would be %appdata%/sterlingcoin/  or otherwise stated and for example: c:\Users\ForExampleUserName\AppData\Roaming\sterlingcoin\
or on Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/sterlingcoin/

Please use caution to not delete your wallet.dat file. It is irreplaceable. Overwrite the files from the .zip archive into the data directory and start your Sterlingcoin wallet. It will be at block height 856500 and proceed to download the remaining blocks.

I hope these snapshots are found useful.

What happened to faucet?  Shocked

Sorry for the outage. Because of system abuse, a captcha needs employed. It was suspended until the time could be allotted to do so. I will move it higher on the priority list and get it done asap.

@Crysx

That is easily one of the most comprehensive responses to any question I have ever asked on this or any other thread.

Thank you Crysx, it is greatly appreciated.

As for Steven, he has certainly never given me or anyone else any reason to doubt both his ability and his commitment.  That is why I am such a fan of SLG after all this time;  I just know it is going to be a great success, because Steven will never stop working on it until it fully realises its enormous potential.

So I totally agree with you Crysx, Steven will deliver; PERIOD!!   Grin

Thanks for the kind words, gents!

To add to Crysx's server response, we are bringing another SLG seednode online this week. It is syncing now and the appropriate DNS changes will be made. Of course, I will continue to assist CWI in all ways possible to bring those seednodes online as fast as possible also.

The links that were posted to snapshots are still valid. I will get a more recent one made and post the link. Sorry I have yet to do so.

Cheers!

--- ChainWorks Industries ---
@Steven Saxton

Hi Steven

May I enquire re the current status of:

1  New servers
2  New seednodes
3  Backup chain??

Cheers

Sterling Sentinel

I'll answer the first two points.

We at CWI have been working tirelessly to get the ALL the new systems up and running. To date, we have one issue after another, and are resolving them one by one. As such, Steven has been requesting updates, to which I have responded accordingly.

Currently, the seednodes are located on the old seednode infrastructure. This infrastructure is deprecated. It is small, slow and doesn't have much in the way of storage or power in comparison to the new servers. It did it's job, and did it well, but we have now out grown it by a factor of 3. So we have commissioned the new servers.

1 - ChainWorks Industries - New Servers

These new servers comprise currently of one main dedicated large server, with 26 'smaller' servers which were originally going to be used for nothing but the CWI-SeedNode Infrastructure. This has now changed. Due to the issues we had not foreseen, we have had to 'shuffle' a number of services within the confines of these current servers. Meaning the new large dedicated server, and 4 smaller servers will be dedicated to service the new CWI-Pool system, leaving the 20 other smaller servers for the CWI-SeedNode system (two of them are being utilized for other services within CWI). This is planned on being increased to the full 70 seednodes for CWI, of which a number of them will be for the partner coins (25 in total for partner coins), over the coming months. This will ONLY occur when the current issues and infrastructure is complete.

Currently, there are STILL a number of issues that need to be ironed out. One of those issues are the migration of the seednodes. The other issues are within the confines of CWI and need not be discussed here.

2 - CWI-SeedNodes

As mentioned above, the actual current number of seednodes that will be active once all the issues are sorted is 20. However, this number may change depending on what is required for our own internal use. this is in preparation for the full expansion of the CWI-InfraStructure, with CWI-SeedNodes being part thereof.

When will this be happening?
It is currently.

When will this be finished?
When all the issues are sorted, bugs squashed and compiles are all done. Not a moment before. If you are expecting a date or time, there won't be one. We were supposed to be fully functional and live many weeks ago, so had we set a date then, we would have been made out as liars. Which is the reason we don't supply dates or deadlines to anyone.

The current old seednodes are mostly still functional.

There are a few that have stopped, and we just cannot afford the manual downtime to keep stopping and restarting what we are doing for the migration, which is why we have left them in a suspended status. Many of the seednodes are still running.

As for the third point, that is something Steven has to respond to.

One more thing. Steven Saxton IS one of our core 'theTEAM' developers at CWI. Though he has his own projects to cater for, and devotes a great deal of time to, he is still a trusted developer, and moreso, my friend. He is not always up to speed with everything going on in ChainWorks Industries, due to this, but there will not be a time where he will drop his level of attendance to SLG (or any of the projects for that matter), and never a time he will lower the level of quality and time he devotes to all of the projects under his care. This IS the reason the title of CWI-Partner belongs to the projects he has under his wing.

Trust plays a major part in this 'developer' world, even though it doesn't seem to exist in the community driven world of crypto. Trust is synonymous with Steven. He WILL do what he says he will do - PERIOD!

Bleutrade has responded, requesting IP addresses of nodes to follow. The IP addresses that were provided are:

108.61.216.195 (seed1.sterlingcoin.org)
108.76.201.244 (seed2.sterlingcoin.org)
108.61.191.233 (cwi-seed01.sterlingcoin.org)

These seednodes are monitored religiously by Sterlingcoin, especially when a fork is detected. They have not been found in a fork and are in world-class datacenters.

At the time of this writing, we know not the status of the CWI seednodes. The last in the above list (cwi-seed01) is maintained by Sterlingcoin. Its IP will be changing in the near future, when CWI's new servers are online and ready to fill the roll. But the IP (108.61.191.233) and that VPS will remain online after. The first 2 in the list will not be moving or changing IP in the foreseeable future.

Bleutrade will continue to be monitored. When their wallet is back online, it will be announced here.

Thank you for your patience.

Bleutrade responded to the ticket this morning to let us know their SLG wallet is being worked on. This was the first response received since the IP addresses were provided.

Bleutrade's Sterlingcoin wallet is now out of maintenance mode and was verified to be correct by a test deposit.
