Nobody's bothered to mention it here yet, which speaks more about the current popularity of the forum than anything else, but both Adam K. (Phantom Phreak) and Robby D. (xnova) have returned to Counterparty & have already contributed a lot to development (or re-development).

https://twitter.com/agkrellenstein/status/1756968626765058249

As a result, the price of XCP has surged from about $3 to $9.50. Wish I hadn't sold the rest of my bag at about $3.80  Cheesy  Cry

Still, I'm more bullish on the future of Counterparty than possibly ever. Excited to see what comes next.

Hey all

Between June 25th - July 7th, 2014, I registered all the NFL team names as tokens for a project described in the quoted post below and in this thread:

The Counterparty BitBowl - Decentralized Super Bowl Wagering

I have burned (destroyed) the supplies of all 32 tokens down to 100 and am putting them up for sale via dispenser. The first sale, which is 20 sets of all 32 teams on one dispenser, will begin in about 7-8 hours from now. The dispenser link & address will be posted in the above thread.

There will be two additional full-set sales: one starting on the 1st day of NFL preseason and the 2nd on the 1st day of the regular season. I will also open up individual team dispensers on those dates, as well. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!

Hi Guys,

I have an idea for a super bowl betting pool that utilizes the Counterparty asset exchange and I would appreciate some feedback on it.

Basically the game involves purchasing a token over the asset exchange that correspond to the NFL team you think is going to win the super bowl, and if that team wins the issuer buys back those tokens for the grand prize (probably .1 BTC, per token).

Team tokens sold by the issuer correspond to their current Vegas super bowl odds and will be updated weekly to reflect changes. Owners of the tokens may do with them what they wish; they will not be recalled and may be traded openly on the exchange for whatever else is there.

I already registered all the team names as assets(except somebody had taken "BEARS" already... hey guy who owns it, want to sell it to me?), as well as a handful of domain names. You can check out a bare bones version of the site:

http://thebitbowl.com/    or
http://counterbowl.com/

I have an instructions / rules list and FAQ I am working on that hammers out the details, but I thought I would open myself up to comments and criticism right now in case I am about to jump off a legal ledge or something. I'd like all the advice I can get.

I'm also thinking of associating image files for each asset but don't want to run into copyright issues.

What do you think? Thanks.

Just sharing a nice J-Dog meme

Out of Ordinals came Bitcoin Stamps, which are <10 kb jpgs tucked away as base64-encoded date in the Description field of a Counterparty token.

https://tokenstamps.io/

But most of them are now SRC-20 (a stamps token protocol, lol) so you can to go back to the first page to see what they actually look like.

SRC-20 was causing problems for Counterparty as each transaction can require the issuance of 3 numeric assets, causing a strain on server resources.

After stern communication with their main dev / bullshit peddler, they agreed to halt for the time being.

I'm all for stamps. SRC is just as stupid as BRC, totally wasteful & useless. Hope it goes away with the rest of the degens.

^^^

Something a bit more directly on-topic is a new Counterparty series named Rare Ordinals.

The idea is tokenization of an Ordinal via Counterparty.

The owner of the Ordinal-minting address creates a 1 of 1 divisible token that represents "shares" of the Ordinal. I think its a pretty clever way to combine both platforms.

This is the first one of Series 1:

Here is its entry on an Ordinals explorer:

Here is its entry on a Counterparty explorer:

https://xchain.io/asset/ORDINALPEPE

A bunch of them have been made already, including the first gif, which was minted just today. Pretty cool stuff.

Learning the troll avoidance button :)
Why do you speak of it as decided that data storage in the Blockchain constitutes abuse?
It's abuse because you're forcing others to download/store your data against their free choice.
Every full node must download the full blockchain (prunable or not!).
Every full node has consented to download and store financial transactions.
NOT every full node has consented to store anything else.
You need 100% consensus for this, not merely some subset (ie, not miners; not developers) or even a majority.

Furthermore, everyone is free to store data that isn't in the blockchain.
There is nothing to be gained by putting it in the blockchain except that you force it on those who don't want it.
Explain how this is anything but abuse...

Whether you think there are better implementations than the current one is not the problem, but rather that you are making a protocol change for something that miners are, by design, supposed to decide for themselves, and acting autocratically over Bitcoin.
Miners are not supposed to decide protocol changes any more than developers.
Protocol changes, in general, require consensus of the economic majority (or, more practically, "will this person I want to pay accept my forked-blockchain bitcoins?").

Colored Coins are Back Baby ^^
Long live the Inordinate Ordinals for ordinary Bitcoiners

Can't find/load data at path: /var/www/virtual/counterparty.io-docs-html/forum.html

All of the sub links to the about counterpart are down.

Also very sad to hear of John's passing he will be missed for sure.  RIP John.

Suffice it to say that Evan, Robby and I will all be working on Counterparty for the forseeable future.

I see that PhantomPhreak logged in last month and am wondering if he could possibly address what happened with this plan... His activity on the forum really dropped off after March 2015.

I realize things change, people change, and he went on to work with Symbiont.

But I have to say, Counterparty could really use your guidance & direction if you have even the slightest interest in returning!

The problem is all the Counterparty development was from volunteers and the main developer sadly passed away a few years ago.

Wonder who you're talking about as Adam K. was last online on this forum on Sept 21st.

Passing of Core Developer John Villar

It is our unfortunate duty to inform the community of the passing of one of our developers on March 8th of this year. John Villar was a friendly, insightful and kind hearted integral member of the Counterparty development team and the wider crypto community. In his wake the community came together to raise funds for his family for their unforeseen expenses. A commemorative token was created and set up in a dispenser (xchain.io/tx/1551579) with all sales being forwarded periodically to the family. John was known for not only most of the recent Counterparty protocol improvements (CIPs) but also for developing the RarePepeParty game with his company in Venezuela. A burn address has been created as a shrine to John and if users would like to send him tokens of appreciation, they can do so at : 1JohnViLLARchiguireitorxxxxwhsz7P

Not the only dev but he was the main one whose name i notced the most with the updates and they had the most commits since 2015 (https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/counterparty-lib/graphs/contributors?from=2015-01-30&to=2022-11-12&type=c)
He was also the dev of the UniversalMolecule [UMO] Blake256 altcoin: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-umo-universalmolecule-blake256-new-win-downloads-2015-12-15-702519

Its nice to learn that there is a still a few devs spending some time on it, perhaps the collapse of FTX will be a drawcard again for XCP and its development as it was in the past after Gox.
There must be more than a few people around who would like to see a bitcoin based alternative to the DEXs on other blockchains like Ethereum which are insecure and constantly in the news about being hacked and drained.

There is no one being paid the big bucks from ICOs or companies to create or develop it further.

No there is not but it still receives regular updates, largely thanks to J-Dog who is committed to keeping the protocol alive.

Devs developing on top of Counterparty are always at odds with figuring out how to get compensated for their work... it has to be at least partially a passion project or they won't have the motivation to get through it.

Don't forget, when this Eth "Merge" hype ends and POS isn't very promising without all the leveraged platforms and VC loans, XCP will have a very promising use of its own that it will do on a better blockchain and network than "ETH" ever has:

https://counterparty.io/docs/faq-smartcontracts/
Is there currently development going on somewhere? I would be interested to follow the code progression, as I'm interested in the concept of turing complete smart contracts on the BTC chain.

They mention the following in the FAQ:

Quote from: Counterparty FAQ
A new proposal is being built for a specific Counterparty VM.

I however don't know when this part was added to the FAQ site, and if it's also outdated.

Another concept I'm interested on is Picopayments - which would be Counterparty tokens on Lightning:

https://github.com/CounterpartyXCP/picopayments-hub

But it seems to have been abandoned in 2017, albeit there are a few forks (this one seems however be the only one which has some own commits ...). Anyone has an idea if there is someone working on this still? Just because of the fee issue some of you mentioned this would be very useful, although of course there's also OmniBOLT in this niche.

Whats tragic is this Picopayments looks like it would be a solid development in the furthering of a Bitcoin layer DEX that would remove the biggest issues of waiting for new blocks and fees.

sometimes the counterwallet cannot be accessed, is there any other site to access this counterparty wallet, I want to see my old wallet but can't access it because the website is always under maintenance, hope there are friends who share this information

https://freewallet.io/

is this website safe and recommended, sorry if I ask because there are so many fraudulent wallets scattered everywhere so I am worried about losing my money and funds in my wallet, thank you for replying to my message, success always for you

I have used it for quite sizable amounts (BTC and others) and have never lost my coins..
I have had smaller amounts of coins (BTC and others) sitting in these wallets for an entire year and they are still there..

I imagine it will also only be as safe and your laptop/device, passwords used, encryption used, etc..
I also always make small test transactions, and triple check my addys..
thanks for your answer, it convinced me enough and i've used it, i was just worried about losing money for the umpteenth time in the past, so i had to ask the experts here so i'm not wrong again

I also vouch for the FreeWallet. Its a fantastic and highly-secure wallet. Works as a simple Bitcoin wallet just as good as any other, as well.
