I'm just getting tired of refreshing their website whenever I can several times a day. I know B3 will last 5 minutes and I will miss out.

Unless they price it well below $3/GHs, they're not sold out ever

I had a similar issue with S2 power supply just shutting down at will every few hours or so.  After replacing the *power cord* with a thicker heavier duty one, it has not yet shutdown after running for 24+ hours.

I would guess this is a common problem. Since they don't ship with correct power cords for the US (and ?), people will use whatever they have around, which often will not be a 1+ KW power cord.

Exactly my thought, and exactly what I did.  I just picked up the nearest power cord without thinking too much about it (until I started having power supply issues that is).  I'd encourage S2 owners to try the cheaper solution first before replacing the entire power supply.  After all, you can get a heavy duty power cord for almost nothing.

Let me explain to the noobs.

Bitmain S2's PSU are for Chinese market.... which mean its supposed to run on 240v. So the power cable gauge is higher (thinner wires).

For 110-120v, you need at least 14awg.... , 16awg is pushing it. And i believe 1000w on 240v only needs 18awg (which seems like the included cable).

Do they have any plans for batch3 at all?

I love that Bitmain actually ships their products... you know... when they say they are going to.  I just wish they interacted with the community a bit more... its a shame Sad.

They used to be more involved with the forum. It seems to be the pattern for every hardware developer... post a lot on the forum and then slowly disappear when things get complicated... KNC, the Bitfury guys, HF, etc. Heck, even going back to Avalon, BFL and ASICMiner. Spondoolies are still in their honeymoon phase and post almost every day. Let's watch and see if that changes too.

i noticed that too..
I wonder who's next to have their "honeymoon" phase as you say lol..

Cryptocurrency Rules man!
Received my S2 a few days ago and don't have any problems. I guess I'm lucky or something.  Wink

just as an FYI, just because the blade is blinking doesn't mean it is working (hint for jenlin). I actually had a blade/hashboard that lit up/blinked and got warm, almost hot to the touch as though it was working, but it would not should up on the WebGui, so I swapped it to another slot, same thing, then tried it on another good machine with a bigger PSU, same thing. It would cause slight more power draw, get hot and blink but was not hashing.

SO now BITMAIN is on the RMA. It seems UPS had trouble delivering it in China, but Bitmain is on it lightning fast. If they get it tomorrow, my replacement might ship out tomorrow and be here Wednesday/Thursday if I am lucky.

Go Bitmain.

PSU is now officially DEAD....

Emailing Bitmain AGAIN....

looks like Bitmain should've listened to all the numerous shouts made here about properly sizing the psu, or atleast gave the option of no psu and/or better ventilated the unit.

He did - on batch 3....

and apparently the problems im having are down to my network.

the same network thats perfectly fine for 6 S1s, 2 avalons, and 2 jupiters...

@hurricane dave, these Enermax Revolution 87+ PSUs dont even have a fuse in the plug...

Have you taken out all the blades?

Also I had to pull out the BBB and unplug the net connector and pull the SD in and out to get mine up and running.....can see why but it worked

Could always go to your local garden shop and buy one for a 1000w HPS ballast.

My issue seem to have been related to the PSU as this miner that had issues draws a little more power then my first one.
With the new enermax 1350W platimax it hasn't turned off yet and running ok with 10 boards Smiley
Shame I had to spend 250Euros to get fix my miner, while the first batch of S2 got a platimax and we got cheaped out with a gold 1000W power supply.
If they would have gone with cheaper power supplies they should have gone with a higher powered one .. just my 2 cents of thought.

I hear you.  My next plan was to replace the power supply, which I may still need to do depending on how my "fix" holds up.  Got spoiled with the S1.  But still have faith in Bitmain.  The S2 is a little rough around the edges but they will improve it over time.

Found my culprit with the faulty antminer.
Seems one of my slots doesn't report any temperatures when a module is running in it.
This makes the fans go haywire and probably trip a security thing in the antminer it self or the PSU

so running with 1 blade less works fine?

Yup no problems yet.. though missing out on some gigahashes now :/

On a side note found it not to be the slot it was mining in but one of the cards tripping the PSU protection.
It either looks like one of my miners needs more power then the power supply gives or one of the blades is faulty and tripping the surge protection.
I ordered a 1350W platimax enermax power supply to find out if this resolves it using all 10 blades
I have another antminer S2 which is running fine with the 1000W enermax powersupply but I think these 1000W power supply's are cutting it really close to max usage of the power supply and will probably end up frying it in the end.. not something I am looking forwards to.
On other thoughts I hate to spend another 250 euros to replace the power supply.

You say you have two units, have you tried one at a time by itself?

Yes one works fine .. unfortunately found the second miner off again this morning I was a bit presumptuous that my troubles where gone with this miner.
Will have to wait for my new PSU

Been thinking of getting 3x of these S2.
However, all these reports of messed up hardware, failing PSUs, burned out LCD screens and other probs are kinda scary.
Are more recent units suffering from all of this aswell?
Bitmain, it kinda seems you took a nose dive on this one, m8.

Peace

S2 reminds me of Block Erupter Blades...Just sold my last 10...and saw how similar are they...

Add the case...PSU...some fans...BBB controller... LCD...You got it... Wink

The only difference is...Erupter Blades have been working nonstop 24/7 since November 2013...HP Server PSU - 1000W though...IRON... Grin

I had a batch of the S2, and there is a couple things I would recommend if you get these:

1)  Buy a new microSD card.  The ones that come with these are crap.  Image it with one of the images linked in this thread. blank it with the reset button, and boom.

2)  I don't know if its just me, but I changed the subnet on these guys.  When I had them on the .1.x subnet, this never happened, but as soon as I put it on my .254, if the unit gets unplugged abruptly, or resets, sometimes I have to reflash the firmware.  I don't see this being a problem in the future as there was some special cases trying to manage all my miners and figuring out loads.  A few breaker trips happened due to my stupidity.

Aside from some of the boxes getting mangled in shipping, and some of those issues, I would say it hasn't been the worst experience ever.  It sure as hell is a far cry from the good ole S1 plug and go, though.

Put technical discussion and problems in here. This thread was never really meant for it and findings don't get amalgamated into the OP.

how i can understand if all my blade at s2 works? Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Log on to the web interface and under status you should see a temperature and "0000 00000 …." associated with each of the blades. You could also remove the case and look if they all have blinking green lights
