Im in Australia and ETA is Thursday...

Im a newb with this Bitmain mining hardware and i want to avoid making a huge paperweight of it and losing BTC and shipping costs back to china etc. I would really appreciate if someone who has successfully upgraded the firmware on the S2 could advise what the upgrade procedure is. Ive read the manual and seems pretty straight forward enough:

1. download latest firmware initramfs.bin.SD-20140410.tar
2. extract the file inside then just point the miner to the extracted files location  and wait ?

I had someone who i PM'd tell me not to extract the file and just point the miner to the TAR file, but i suspect him to be an evil troll wanting me to brick my unit. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My order came from Alaska to Kentucky.  Right now Kentucky has a storm blowing through.  Hopefully it passes before your miner gets to the US.

UPS is finally showing an update... Export scan Shenzhen 5:37pm.  I wonder if Tuesday delivery is still a possibility?
Depends where you are located and what the weather is like.

Here is the info from one of my orders:
Quote
Shenzhen, China    03/13/2014    7:11 P.M.   Departure Scan
Abilene, TX, United States    03/14/2014    12:09 P.M.   Delivered

If you are in the US, then it will make it if there are no delays.

In the southwest US as well.  Fingers crossed.

ASIC doesn't bring anything good for Bitcoin anyway. Bitcoin was way more decentralised when it was limited to CPU/GPU.
Yeah let's all go back to 1.50W per 1MH/s, oh yeah WE were truly cooking then, EH??  Phunk that GPU mining is for R-TARDS! or people without blood circulation..

You probably have a very effective blood circulation but it is no help without a brain.

S2 is "scheduled" to deliver 15th April, something to look forward to on "TAX-Day"..  Thanks Bitmain!

That doesn't mean that people who enjoy mining will stop or should stop because a few people are telling them it's not worth it...maybe it's not, maybe it will be, I don't have a crystal ball.
But like I said before no one is forcing anyone to buy gear from any source or to get involved in mining. It is a long term game if you trying to make a profit, if you can make a profit.

It is only not profitable because you buy it overpriced.
Stop buying ASIC. Let the manufacturer rethink their price or let them die.

These guys have them for sale right now, and the price definitely right!
Plus they have excellent customer support from my experience buying gear from them:

7.4 BTC for a device that might mine less than 5.3 in the next 100 days if every diff change for the next 100 days is only 15% ...
No wonder hardware vendors can do so well, people like losing BTC ... ... ... ...

It will return $2000 after 6 months with 17.50% diff average increase, including electricity.
That's 4.49 BTC at current price so 2.91 BTC loss.
So the cost of "having fun mining Bitcoin" will be $1296.
So much fun, yeah !

Hey, I'm with you...no one likes the state the Bitcoin is in right now..I'm sure we all wish it was still back up at $1200. But unfortunately it's not, and nobody is celebrating about it.

Otherwise people are simply enjoying the whole phenomenon of mining and god forbid they like doing it as a hobby or whatever.

If you aren't enjoying "having fun mining Bitcoin" then don't do it, you can always go outside and ride your bike Smiley I think that's still free.

Well the batch 1 S2 in today's coin value is approx. 10 BTC
So are you saying one is better that the other? Or just a general statement in lack of ROI on miners in general?

Not sure why it is difficult to see ... but ... I replied to your comment ... that's why I quoted your comment ..........

No idea who you think it is right for at gaw, but clearly it is right for gaw, not miners.

In fact I cannot even understand the reason for your post.
Do you have something to gain for gaw's sales?
or do you simply have no idea how bitcoin difficulty works, the recent history of it and the known up coming mining devices due now and soon?

You are misunderstanding what I am saying. I don't care who it's right for or not, all I know is people are simply looking to get 1TH/s miners, and they will continue to look for and purchase them, wherever they can get one, just like I did.

I bought an S2 for full price on batch 1, even batch 2 is still pretty expensive, all I was saying is that from my experience buying scrypt mining gear from GAW, I know that they are a reliable company....and if you took a second to realize that what I was referring to was the comparison in price from the S2's batch 1 and 2 to what their price is currently for a 1TH/s miner, you would realize when I say "the price definitely right!" I am talking about if you were looking at the current available options for 1TH/s miners that you could buy today not in 5 months.  Plus if you actually took the time to read the posts you would have seen that I was simply answering someone question of "so where is the best price on a 1th/s miner kinda interested" so don't assume things unless you take the time to read up on previous posts.

You mentioned "do you simply have no idea how bitcoin difficulty works, the recent history of it and the known up coming mining devices due now and soon?" of course I do, and of course there will always be bigger and better things down the pipe, but I was referring to what is available now if you were in the market for a 1TH/s miner..that's all.

As far as your accusation "Do you have something to gain for gaw's sales?"  the answer is no I do not. I am not employed by them, but am simply a satisfied customer, and enjoy the fact that if I have to call them for any issue someone always picks up the phone or answers my emails...basically I am just a loyal customer who likes the way they do business, and to tell you the truth if they had the 1TH/s miner up on their website before the S2, I would have purchased one from them simply for the fact that I know from experience that if I had a problem they would go out of their way to help me out however they could. Unlike the disaster going on here.

So sue me for giving someone a basic answer to a basic question...It seems as you are the one who has a problem with these miners being sold, but to tell you the truth, I don't care. No one is forcing you to buy one Smiley

People want what they want and are going to buy it whether it makes them an ROI or not, some people just like having fun stuff to play with and makes them happy to be a part of something...how do you rate the ROI on that?

Have a good day!
Smiley

i hope i know enough one day to post to a forum and just be completely sarcastic , then i will know i am a veteran,, but could somebody clear something up --is the 28nm ASIC chip what is in the 1th/s miners or is it something newer??? with that chip would it be (1w/GH/s) ??
i believe it is higher density 55nm chip.

The S2 use same chips as the S1.  It is just underclocked to improve efficiency and of course, has more chips.

I don't why it's still so hard for you to understand miners, lol.  We like to spend our earned bitcoin on more miners.  I am increasingly less of that mindset but every once in awhile, something is released and I just have to have it.

A positive ROI isn't the only joy I get from mining.  And right now those Gridseed Blades are looking pretty sexy.  But I suppose I should wait until I unbox my S2 in a few days before pulling the trigger on another purchase.

So are all the issues with the S2 sorted out? or not yet?

I heard here is no logout button, or password change option and other features, just wondering if they ever resolved those.

Hello I see that bitmain sent my s2 with saver international and not express
So I have it after 10 days

Why???

What is yours?
Express or saver shipping??

I specifically asked for DHL as the delivery to Australia only took 2-3 days now because they send with UPS its going to take at least another 7-10 days with the Easter public holidays. There goes more money lost and another difficulty rise, so much for any chance on ROI
