one of the little caps on the top of the unit went hot-red, then it went off with a puff of smoke.
It gave a smell of electrical burning (which I quite like) but not a good sign.
going up to test it today with a range of PSU's.
it had been running alongside a heavily underclocked SP20 on an EVGA1600 gold for around 3 - 4 days and I had the S5 clocked waaaaay low at 218... so this shouldn't have happened.. i'm a very cautious miner, due to the fact that my miners are in a relative's garage and the last thing i'd need is a fire in the building.
will update the situation later, but what-with the burning... i'm not optimistic.
well s-3's and s-1's have popped a cap or two. not a lot but it has happened.
of the 30-40 s-1 and s-3 units I have had.
one had a bent cap half soldered cap and the unit would not run.
So popping a cap on bitmaintech gear is not new. But it is not common like the prisma's from Asic Miner.
Sounds like you had a runaway thermal like the prisma's would do. you had your miner run up to 80 c if I recall a few posts back.
and it did not shut down IIRC .
