the noctua is a nice fan too bad it costs so much.
yep, let's see how that delta for $8-9 (on ebay deal that you shared) will do, but in the end, it s definitely worth it for me, as I would pay much more for hosting including setup, PSU (rent or buy-either $10/mo or $80-100 in most places), etc. I consider that ~$25/Noctua money well spent.

Finally....got first Noctua fan, installed, always a problem with little plastic rails (had to clip one off).
I am finally free from the ringing in my ears (from 30 feet away!) produced by the stock fan. Such a relief.
Right now on 325, but does 1098GH-once I get Delta fans on Monday (for pull)-I think that serious overclocking will be possible.
Ambient high 28-29C,
But it is all good for now (slightly high temps, but manageable). BTW, stock fan in a few days left an awful gooyey black residue on the heat sinks.
Conclusion: I don't know why BMT had to basically screw with their own fine product by using that ear ringing fan (I admit that this is less relevant for some people with sheds, basements, empty garages, etc).
Miner-good (apart from the strange plastic walls-but this is irrelevant), fan-bad.

Just like the SP20 it has over voltage protection built in? How did yours blow up?
I have done less to my 2x S5's (I just changed to 400MHz) and mine are running at 2A @ 1300GH each on my PDU for last few days. My SP20's are 1250-1300 (4 of 8 are here and I have spent a good amount nailing down the underclocking) using 2.3-3A each.
Both are awesome units regardless.

Pretty sure the stuff on amazon is an unofficial reseller.
No, they were official Bitman sales of B2 & B3 (at a small markup.) with the same stated shipping dates.
Yes, my mistake it was supposed to be 04 Jan. (not 08 Jan.) and they ran the money and gave a shipping number on 31 December. It was though BitMain direct via Amazon. Paid $480 each before it went up to $530 something and now they're only available via aftermarket sellers (no more BitMain direct).

Finally broke down and ordered 2 S5. Then realized I could have ordered just 1. Wish I had done it sooner but was weary as a B1 S3 customer. Time to either sell my undervolted S1's or take them down further. I've been wanting to put 8 on a single CX750.
From reading some of these post, I'm guessing the S5 will run nicely on a CX750 and I should be able to overclock?

Are those B3 ones direct from Bitmain? if so that's weird they would ship before B2.Thats totally messed up that they would ship batch 3 before batch two … from what I understand my batch 2 should ship on the 4th and my order status says unshipped … Who would have thunk that batch three would ship before batch two ...
They have not shipped. The amazon shipping notices and tracking #'s are just the UPS labels being printed.

Following up from my earlier post about my half dead S5, I had a pleasant surprise when UPS came knocking on my door with a replacement hashing board today - I didn't even realise that BitmainWarranty had despatched it! Straight away I got to work, stripped the S5, removed the offending board, slid in the new one & put it back together - it didn't take long at all due to the "open air" design...... 
The result:
Running for 3 hours now without a hitch - lovely!
Respect & thanks are due to BitmainWarranty who was super fast in arranging the replacement board without a hassle, as well as friendly & understanding as usual, unlike a certain other "representative" - who should take a leaf out of BitmainWarranty's book on customer relations instead of barking at customers. If he did so, Bitmain & himself would be far better for it.
PS: Thanks for the T-Shirts & stickers also BitmainWarranty

Quick, clean and easy fan muffing for the those that have an S3+.
Swap the push fan from an S3+ with the stock S5 fan. At 3500 rpm, the S3+ fan hums (or purrs) whereas the stock S5 fan whines ..
On the orher hand, the stock S5 fan will run at a much lower rpm when strapped onto an S3, thus won't be as loud as when it is on an S5.

I tried with my s3 (not+) but the cabel from the fan is to short
I have the s3 fan connected directly to the psu. So it is at full speed
I am not sure if it is less loud.
Gonna order some cables / adaptors now.

How does the current limiting on the PCIe plugs work, BTW? I'm not at home to check, but I would assume that the two plugs are not simply paralleled on the hashing board and that each 12V plug powers two of the ASICs in a loop.
IE, if you disabled a full loop on a hashing board you'd pull full power from one plug, and ~0W from the other.

the sp20 seems to be 1 plug per loop. so if you knock a plug loose on 1 board(each board has 2 loops) the board only allows 1 loop to work. this is good and it is safe.
I have knocked loose a pcie cable at the psu end and the sp20 just ran 1 loop on that board.
problem is that the S5 will put about 270-320W per blade, so if you use two seperate cables thats a managable 150W/cable. If one fails, that 300W will push a cable to its limit. 16awg can handle that but an 18awg will certainly fail.
in comparison, the SP20 can draw up to 288W PER CABLE at full speed. (~150W/cable underclocked). Not much difference in safety as far as I see, if anything the SP20 is more likely to cause PSU failures (in lower quality supplies).
dont use a Bronze or lower PSU for either device, thats my suggestion. GOLD or PLAT power supplies will have better safety features and use thick wiring in its cables. Alternatively, I sell 16AWG PCIe cables that have either a connector on each end, or a connector at one end and stripped wires for server mods on the other. Ive used them to carry up to 312W each at which point they get warm but not hot
using Corsair CX750M on S5 at 325 setting (disliked the sound of fans at 350) and regular fan (Vornado) blowing in the same direction as the internal fan, temperatures (other than boards) were measured by the laser probe:
Ambient 27-28C
miner boards temp 48-49C
hashing at ~1070Gh/s
Connector at PSU- 29C
First 10-15 cm of wire-33C (interesting!), the rest of the wire 28-29C
Connector on S5 closest to the internal fan-29C
Connector on S5 farthest from internal fan-33C (interesting)
each branch of the branched PCIe is connected to the same board (same side of the miner)
this looks safe at least as far as at connectors temperature is concerned
later I will test with 325 and no external fan, then 350 with an external fan, then (maybe) 350 without an external fan
