Mike,
If you have not shipped it off to e-waste, I'll take it.

I sent you a PM, I still have it.  If you are in the 48 continental states then it's yours for 0.03 btc.

I answered your PM.
I'll take it.
I'm in CA same as you.......

Perhaps for less than .03 btc then?

PM sent, let me know if you're interested or not.

If not I'll keep the dead U3 around for a little longer before sending it to the e-recycle bin.

User jlauzon has not got back to me yet.  I'll keep the dead U3 for another week then it's off to the e-recycle bin.  If anyone else wants it, let me know. 0.03btc to cover shipping to lower 48 and it's yours.

One more week has passed and never heard back from jlauzon or any other user so the offer is withdrawn and the unit is off to e-waste.

Mike,
If you have not shipped it off to e-waste, I'll take it.

Make sure when you get the R1 that you get Crazyguy's custom software for it, makes owning a U3 rather enjoyable as it all but cures the zombie issues that plague these machines.

Already on the todo list  Wink

On a different note I'm going to be hooking up the U3 to my PSU via a 6pin pci cable that I'm going to sabotage and connect to a barrel plug which has screwed down terminals. How many of the pci 12v and grounds would I need to connect? Two of each to power the u3?

If you want to run updated software then you need to review the included ReadMe file and script with the correct commands.
And rather than 4.9.0 you should try using 4.9.2, it had updates specific for the U3 in it.  Do not use 4.9.1, though, it will not recognize the U3 (bug).

4.9.2 fixed the freq and volts for me. Only way I could get 60ghs was to use 4.9.0. And change the settings. Only zombies once in 7 days so far. Waiting on an antrouter to act as a controller as we speak Smiley

You can't use Bitmains arguments(BMCS) to control the U3 with any version of CGMiner EXCEPT Bitmain's F'd-up Fork. If you want to run updated software then you need to review the included ReadMe file and script with the correct commands.

Hello everyone!  First time here, been mining with a U3 for about 8 months, and it's been working fine until so far.

I have been transitioning my miner to a small install of Ubuntu Server, and the first time I ran cgminer, the program and miner both worked fine and started mining right away at ~60GH.  I shutdown the miner to write a script file for the miner, and when I tried to restart, I was getting this:

Code:
 [2016-03-09 10:43:49] Started cgminer 4.9.0
 [2016-03-09 10:43:49] ---------------------start voltage----------------------
 [2016-03-09 10:43:50] Send voltage aab725cd
 [2016-03-09 10:43:50] Send voltage ok
 [2016-03-09 10:43:50] -----------------start freq-------------------
 [2016-03-09 10:43:50] Send frequency 82110603
 [2016-03-09 10:43:51] Send freq getstatus 84000400
 [2016-03-09 10:43:53] Send freq getstatus 84000400
[2016-03-09 10:43:53] ------recv freq getstatus no data finish------
 [2016-03-09 10:43:54] -----------------start nonce------------------
 [2016-03-09 10:43:54] Bmsc send golden nonce1
[2016-03-09 10:43:55] Bmsc recv golden nonce timeout
 [2016-03-09 10:43:55] ---------------------start voltage----------------------
 [2016-03-09 10:43:55] Send voltage aab725cd
 [2016-03-09 10:43:55] Send voltage ok
 [2016-03-09 10:43:55] -----------------start freq-------------------
 [2016-03-09 10:43:56] Send frequency 82110603
 [2016-03-09 10:43:56] Send freq getstatus 84000400
 [2016-03-09 10:43:58] Shutdown signal received.

I am at an absolute loss for what's going on, I've gone from voltages from  0750 - 0850 volts and ANY frequency listed in the U3 user manual.  None of them have worked.  Any ideas?

Thanks Mike. Have you any ideas about a heat sink and fan that would fit? Or some idea if it's a standard fitment for something else.

holes are 35mm apart (it's a square, each side is 35mm long)

Thanks zOU, I'll make a mental note and keep an eye out for a cooler to suit Smiley

Nope, I do not know anything about the heat sink or fitment.  I assume it's probably a standard size of some sort.  I found that the U3 actually passes a lot of its heat out the bottom, so I put a fan beneath my U3 and that cooled it way way down (there's a pict or two in this thread a few pages back), simple mod with good results.

I have a broken U3 I would sell just for the shipping cost (0.03BTC to continental USA) if you want one to disassemble and measure and experiment with.  PM me if interested, I was holding it for someone else but they never got back to me.

I would but I'm in the UK. Plus haven't really got the time for anything too in depth. I'll look back on the thread for your fan mod. Thanks.

Anyone powered the U3 from an ATX power supply? If so can someone point me in the direction of a suitable adaptor cable. Preferable an 8pin to barrel of its possible.
You can look on eBay, people used to sell them there.  Or you can build you own, it's simple and what I did, then you can build it however you want.  The barrel plug on the U3 is 2.5mm x 5.5mm so you know the right one to buy.

Also has anyone changed the heat sink to a zalman one or something else?

Thanks.

4.9.2 should also work. Moreover, U3 is considered to be more stable with it.

It worked fine just couldn't over clock it which is what I wanted to do with the u3. It's just something to play with. If it's kind of stable on 4.9.0 then I'll leave it as is. Still don't quite understand why I can't overclock on .2, the bat file I ran was the same.

Hi guys,,

Bought a U3 as a little hobby to underdtand the cgminer aspect of mining. I also have 2 S3's but they are obviously easier to set up and maintain.

Im having trouble overclocking it though. Currently runs at 225mhz and 775mv even though I have the bat file set up as follows:-

cgminer -o  -u  -p x --au3-freq 237.5 --au3-volt 800

(obviously with pool data and uswrname data in there.

Can anyone point me to where ive gone wrong?

Thanks.

Anyone?

You were probably using cgminer v4.9.1 which had a bug and it wouldn't recognize the U3.  v4.9.2 had fixes specifically for the U3, it is the version you should probably be using.
