Quitting gambling is not an easy thing to do, especially for those who are already addicted to gambling or make gambling a hobby. Someone who is addicted to gambling will have difficulty and can even make themselves suffer by the process of staying away from gambling, but that is something that must be done because if not, they will not be able to stop gambling. Besides, I myself have not thought about stopping gambling completely, but currently my gambling activity has decreased a little.
In my opinion, arguing that they want to be better does not mean that they have to stop gambling, but that's up to me because in my opinion if we really enjoy gambling and do it regularly, it will not affect us on a large scale.

That's right, if someone is addicted and considers gambling as part of their hobby, then the activity is very difficult to stop because gambling as a hobby is very dependent on a person to do it every day without limiting the time when to stop for a moment. If you have the slightest desire to stop, namely you gamble as an activity to fill your spare time and you can also limit the amount of money you bet, I don't think it will be a problem for your life later, yes, with the note that you must consistently control the way you play properly so that your gambling hobby in the future does not become a disaster for your own life.
Quitting gambling can be a big challenge and it is not an easy thing for anyone to do all this time, many people have lost a lot of money and regret every time they gamble but strangely when he wants to break free from the grip of gambling he is actually involved in it again, I think gambling addiction is no worse than someone who is also addicted to drugs which in the end he can't resist quitting doing so, I think the environment and also friends are important factors that cause someone to continue to be involved in gambling and that is why we should be more selective in choosing friends, if indeed gambling has become a habit, I think it will be difficult for someone to reduce the frequency in their games because after all the requirements of the brain has enqourage us to continue to do it until the satisfaction of gambling has been achieved, however if you are comfortable with the way you gamble at the moment and can control it, of course that is a good thing, but I think it is also important that we are always on the lookout for the signs of addiction and the negative effects that may arise from gambling.

I stand with Ukraine.
What I know is that it's possible to quit after winning big money through gambling. Liv Boeree, a former professional poker player, is a good example. After winning more than $3 million in various poker tournaments, she quit professional poker in November 2019 and been doing a lot of other interesting things since then.

But then on betting home, I thought within myself if I can actually quit gambling for ever if I won a $100,000 like I said, and I concluded I can, if not for anything, atleast, for the fear of losing back all of that money to the casino.

So, here putting out the same question, what will make you quit gambling forever? A win or a loss, or both?
Your friend is right, gambling is like a magnet, the more you gamble and win, the more you're tempted to gamble more and winning a large bankroll would even increase your confidence in gambling and make you gamble with greater amounts.

One thing would save you and that's if you already have a gambling budget and you've fixed amounts you gamble with periodically, then you strictly maintain your discipline, else that money would vanish in no distant time.

It's still possible to quit entirely, but only very few people do actually quit. Some people quits for a while, only to return a worse gambler.

I completely agree with you on this, quiting gambling after a huge winning is more easier to say than done, the desire for more money will increase perhaps human wants are insatiable, human behavior can change since change is a constant factor in life, it is very easy for anyone to say if they are oppotuned to have a huge that are going to quite gambling, saying can be very easy because such opportunity has not arrived but keeping to such terms is what can be very difficult hence anyone that has not gotten such opportunity of having a huge winning before considering quitting gambling should not completely say they can quite gambling if they have a huge winning.

It's wrong to think that winning enough money can stop you from gambling forever. Some players, having won so much money still go on to play as high rollers, in search for bigger amounts. Op's friend is right, when the bigger money is in our possessions the more we'd crave for gambling.

Stopping gambling can't be attributed to winnings, because there is no way a player with thousands of dollars won't try his luck again. Initially before the wins we'd assume it's possible to stop, subsequently our perspective changes once the money is won.
Yes, you are right. We can be tempting to keeps playing gambling without stopping even for a while because we want to wins more money. That is normal to see a gambler who does that because gambling can easily makes them return to casino and playing the other gambling games. It is why we must always control ourselves in gambling no matters if we lose or win so we don't follow our intention or greediness to keep playing gambling. Stopping gambling while we win big money will be enough for us because we can enjoy our win money and we use that money for many things. We can return to casino anytime and we don't have any problem with the capital because we now have that money.

It depends on the gambler though, but there are some folks that can quit gambling after hitting such amount of money, especially those that was not seeing gambling as means of money at first , so those set of people ain't addicted to it so they can easily stopped and use the money to Start a new business or to promote his business.

But there are some folks after winning such amount of money they won't quit and sometimes it can even make them to be more addicted to it making them to believe they can easily make such amount of money again through gambling, and the funny thing about gambling is that winning huge is like one in a million, because most time losses tend to be overwhelming in gambling.
Honestly, I salute those who can stop easily, for example when they have successfully made a profit from gambling, then withdraw the winnings and go to enjoy it and intend to stop gambling and then succeed because they are consistent in doing it, that sounds very good because as far as I know it is not easy to stop or stay away from gambling for a short period of time, maybe for people who are not yet trapped in gambling it can still be done, but for people who are already seriously addicted I think it will not be easy to stop or even reduce their gambling activities I think they will have difficulty.
With those who have won but do not intend to stop I think they are people who are indeed looking for profit in their gambling goals, With the profits they have obtained, they themselves can think that they can still get even bigger wins, even though there is no certainty.

Very important topic filled with rich insights. Quiting gambling is easy for a person who doesn't fancy it that is a passive gambler. Quiting gambling is hard for an active gambler. Secondly the more years of experience in gambling the harder it is to quit. Winning  $100,000 saying you'd quit means that you lost $100,000 because that's how hard it is to get to that amount. For me a good reason to quit gambling is family. Once it interferes with family in any way, the. I am done.

I can quit gambling after winning $100,000, I can quit gambling after winning any amount or not winning too. If I was to notice that gambling is affecting me in a negative way, I can quit gambling to have my peace. My friend and family can ask me to quit gambling and I will do that without having a second thought. I do not depend on gambling for money like most gamblers are doing and this make them to become so in love in gambling that they can not do without it. Gambling should be mostly for fun therefore when you stop having fun as you notice, you are now turning your gambling habit into a routine than you need to stop. I can quit gambling because of any reason that does not make me enjoy myself when I am gambling again as I used to do in the beginning because I love my peace than anything else.

I think we can give you the right answer once we experience it. Both you and your friend might be right. In my experience, I would side with your friend. I once won $6,000, which I thought might make me quit gambling but it didnt. After winning that amount, I gambled even more. I became more addicted. Maybe, like you said if I won $100,000, I would quit gambling for good and focus on a business that isnt related to gambling. lol

In obvious case of an addiction I suppose and not in a good way, when am not having to win but rather, lose all that I’ve labored for to the gambling industry. That’s enough to scare me away from the practice.

It’s only normal that as a human, you don’t do things that would bring harm to you and with gambling addiction proving to be a cause of harm to not just my mental well being but, having a relative effect on my finances too, I could quit gambling. There is nothing worst than not being in control and if that be it, then don’t play.

However, I’ve got a great deal of control over my gambling habits so, it’s cool here.

This might be an impossible thing to accomplish, it's easier said than done. Personally a good reason for me to quit gambling is due to the negative effects it has. It doesn't matter if you win as long as you are constantly involved in it you will definitely lose everything you have won including the funds in your bank account.
Again, unless you have a whole lot of money in yo account to keep you going, that alone should be enough reason to quit gambling. We all know the implications of these things and that shouldn't even be a question to ask anyone -- that should be some personal decision type of shit.

Haven't I heard stories and cases that would have been avoided - or atleast treated with more leniency but no? Imagine lending out your funds to a very close friend cause he requested for it in pretext for his business, but then you realized that he gambled away the funds? It's understandable if he was too hungry so he had to help himself, but gambling?? You might wanna sue him!
If I have no control over emotions and am greedy then I must have to stop gambling whether I am in loss mode or in a profit mood.

If I have no control over emotions and am greedy then I must have to stop gambling whether I am in loss mode or in a profit mood. But if I have control over the emotions and I am not greedy then I would not stop gambling anytime as it could not make me too much looser though it could not make me too much profit too.

Hi ladies and gents of the forum's gambling discussion board, coming through with this question born out of an argument I just had with a good friend of mine a few minutes ago.

So, I was sitting side to side wit a good friend of mine this evening while having a chat about making money, we talked about several ways we can make a lot of money in the most possible short time, in the midst of the options we both came of up, I brought up the option of gambling, suggesting it to him as one of the most easiest and fastest way to also make money if and when one is lucky, he agreed it's a good option but complained about the possibilities of betting addicted, and as a result, losing back all the money after winning it, then I told him that if I won like $100,000 from gambling, I did quit gambling forever, he laughed and screamed impossible, he said that the more money one makes from gambling, the more they get hooked, we argued about this until we both decided it was time to go home and rest.

In very rare cases is a win and the win should be extra extra massive, more than 250k dollars or more and I assume here that I have not lost overall more than this amount, if I did lose more than it is normal to continue try to recover it which we know that lead to very bad consequences yet most people do this. In a loss is even more rare as losing makes you mad, sad and feel burning rage inside and this is what the majority of the people feel, I have seen how they talk all the same when they hit a big lose in the chats of the casinos where they are playing. So the win is more likely, the very big win I mean to quit gambling forever, I know for example that if I hit 500.000 dollars there is no reason to come back to gamble as I know this happens once in a life time and should be happy with it, call it a day and say goodbye forever to gambling.

My friend, I would say that the real victory in gambling is when you "stop", that's what I learned from my experience, I understand that winning in gambling is very possible but I would say that the bigger the amount of winnings you get, the bigger your hopes will be, simply when you manage to get $ 100k then you will try to chase $ 200k, don't care about the idea that "I will stop when I manage to get that amount", that's just bullshit, humans are social creatures who have hopes and greed, you won't always be able to identify that you are trapped in greed, I've experienced it.

This means that what your friend said is indeed a fact, you will not be interested in using the winnings to be used as capital for other things such as business for example because most likely you will think "that just by gambling I can get that amount very easily then why should I build another place of income with a complicated process?"

This means that I would answer that the only thing that can make someone stop gambling is because he lost a lot of money, it is impossible for you to expect to lose again, but when you manage to win big then it is unlikely for you to ignore the urge to gamble because of the urge of curiosity and hope. Thinking after a big win of say $100K will stop gambling for as long as possible may be easy but it will be difficult if you have spent that $100K even if you use it in investment.

Starting again hoping to be lucky like before then gambling will be difficult to stop especially we always play every week.
I know some people are able to do it but for myself I'm actually not sure what to say.

Will take a long break from gambling after a big win and will enjoy the proceeds into other areas that are more profitable on a stable basis.

Yes, that is the truth. Nobody will like to quit where they have made a good amount of money. It is very easy to say, "I want to quit gambling after I have made some reasonable amount of money," but believe me, it is very hard to do that. I have seen some people say that many times, but once they have an opportunity and win a big amount, their aim becomes even bigger. In fact, they always aim for more than the amount they won before. Despite knowing that gambling is all about luck, we still always have the courage to believe we are going to win whenever we gamble.

If someone has not won a big amount of money before, they always see a certain amount as a very big win. However, once the money enters their account, they start feeling that the amount is not enough anymore. The truth is that even if someone wins $100,000, their aim will be to win one million. There may be some people who will quit gambling if they win a big amount of money, but it is rare for someone to quit after just one win.

I hope you win that $100k, bro so you can decide in reality if you really can do that, but many of the big winners in casinos always come back to try to win more, and many of them lose half or even more than what they've won, I think its more on losing everything that will make you quit gambling, because you don't have anything to gamble and you don't want to experience the heartbreak of losing a lot again.

Actually, Op has to face reality before uttering such words, since he's not won $100k it's unrealistic to conclude what his actions would be when he does. As for jackpot winners I've known, they didn't end their gambling journey, all the funds went down the hill, and they even got indebted.

Generally, the house wins back most of the money ushered to winners, and many winners can't understand why they played harder after attaining wealth via gambling.

It doesn't matter if you win as long as you are constantly involved in it you will definitely lose everything you have won including the funds in your bank account. This makes me wonder, what's really the point of gambling and winning in the first place if you would still lose everything?
Losing in gambling can affect your temperament and also your relationship with other people, it can also lead to depression which is totally not a good feeling. Quitting isn't easy but if you can get it done make sure you do it.

It is not an easy thing to be able to get rid of the desire to gamble, moreover, we have done the gambling activity very often and correctly, as you said, it will indeed be very easy to say and only a few days later we will still be back to gambling.
I think it will be very difficult to be able to win gambling continuously and what we often get is that those who have found victory will again experience defeat because they cannot stop when they have won, it is useless after we experience victory but lose again when continuing to bet then in betting it is very necessary to be able to control ourselves so as not to suffer big losses in gambling.
You're right, when someone loses on the bet they play, it will certainly make them emotional and they can do unpleasant actions with the people around them, everyone certainly has the desire to stop when they lose but when they have money they will go back to gambling, it takes effort and also support from the people around us to stop to get rid of the habit of gambling.
