Mining since May 2011.

Because it was in some obscure forum post.
People outside the forum never saw it.
It wasn't part of the ordering terms and conditions.

Well my vote is FIFO! Anything less is BS.

I, like a lot of people, have paid a LOT of money to BFL to be where we are in line and now they want to change it up and put us at the mercy of a random number generator? That is just wrong. So there could be a case were BFL has had my money longer then "Johnny come lately", like by several weeks, and he gets picked to start hashing before me. WTF? How is that even fair?

Ship them in the order they were paid.

Their 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 policy was decided what, 1.5 or 2 months ago? Why is this just now being debated?
I was wondering the same...lol

I'd be a little unimpressed if I'd pre-ordered an SC, only to discover randomized shipping sequence had been decided upon after the fact

Also, what if this random order just so happens to randomly distribute all the ASIC's to customers outside of this forum? Can't blame the randomness, now can we? Whether the units actually went to real customers or not won't matter to the conspiracy lunatics, BFL will get branded dishonest, fairly or unfairly

If I were BFL, I'd see this problem coming and reverse the policy on 1/3 random shipping order sequence
I have to agree with this...

BFL, you already have a black eye from how the FPGA's were handled, and now you're dropping the ball again.

Skip this whole 1/3 thing and just go back to the FIFO queue like was told from the beginning.

All this is going to do is add fodder to your detractors, and further harm an already tarnished reputation.

I had been hoping with the ASICs you'd handle this properly, having learned from your mistakes with the FPGAs, and until this whole 1/3 fiasco, it was looking like you did.

This is not the way to regain confidence of the community.

Order number only is the fairest policy no matter what.

If you had bitcoins to pay, then you are an active bitcoin enthusiast and deserve a low order number.
If you paid by wire, and you were quick, your order number isn't too high at all.
If you waiting for Paypal, sucks to be you.

The plan is still to do 1/3's on the shipping type.

I do want to mine the community here to flesh out my idea for this, though:

I want to use the block chain as the random number generator.  Something such as this:

After block X, every block's first Y bits will determine what order number gets their unit in the 1/3 random portion.  Obviously, this needs a little work to work out. So I am looking for ideas on how to implement this in a fool proof way that everyone will be satisfied with that we are not gaming the system or somehow twisting it to our own ends.
Wow... just, wow...

can't get hardware that handles work-change gracefully, and sends out found hashes as they get found, to be p2pool-friendly, but, ya guys are going to put that much effort into picking the random orders for 1/3 of the ones you send out?

Really?

...

what... nobody wear hats there to pull numbers out of?

I would not add the 2nd month to this. That is just getting a little silly.

I think an idea of production numbers around your output would help any suggestions considerably!

If low production, then I would say 2/3 done in order of invoice number.
I don't think 1/3 to trade-ins is fair.

Well,I watched the forum & your website (BFL) extensively for the release date & time,ie. did my homework & ordered ASAP.If you scramble the orders then all my effort was wasted.

I will be pissed off big time Angry

Just send out the first 1/3 in the order they were recieved,as planned from the beginning.............

Second 1/3 should be for trade in's,as planned from the beginning.............

Third 1/3 can be randomly generated as you are suggesting or whatever........

After that do as you wish.

Yes, we will be filling them in order after that.

Keep in mind that I will not release any order until I feel that we have enough orders to ship out to everyone in the first batch.  I don't want a few select individuals to end up with the ASIC days or weeks in advance of others.  We will release a few demo units to high profile individuals (not high profile miners necessarily) to check out if we are in the accumulation phase of assembled equipment.

Keep in mind we will not be releasing any specifics on orders (such as name, order number, etc...) publicly, but only to the people who own those orders, if they choose to publish them here, that is their own business but we won't divulge private information or sales numbers.  So the plan needs to work from a blind standpoint.

So I'm looking for comments and ideas from the community that the community itself will be satisfied with and that is as transparent as possible without dipping into proprietary information.

What about the 2nd month (7/24 to 8/24) of orders, will there be a 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 policy for those orders or will they just be filled in sequence?

ie.  If we ordered right now at the end of the 2nd month could we conceivably receive our order with the very first orders that were made in the 2nd month due to the random portion ??

News Update, ETA is still a fictional October Smiley

I am pretty sure October is real - There was an October in 2011. I predict there will be one in 2012.

Yeah, but will we have one in 2013? We might skip October altogether.
