All these tokens that are popping up strike me as having no inherit value. The idea I'm going to buy a piece of rainforest or something using a token and actually have the company keep up their end of the bargain and not take the money and run strikes me as being a bit naive. If investing in an ICO, it better be a real blockchain... Yeah I'll still take the airdrops when they're offered though, I'm a hypocrite like that.
I'm skeptical of the whole ethereum based tokens app platform... I'd rather invest in a coin more currency focused, which is why I'm simply holding XEM.
Yeah. Most of the newly released altcoins have a period where they become hyped, but as time passes by, they decrease in price. There have been many ICOs, yet only a few have delivered as promised and remained solid on the markets upon launch.
That is why, in my own opinion, most of these tokens are just pure speculation, rather than serving as serious investment tools, or as a usable financial ecosystem. One of the things that I like about NEM is the delegated harvesting feature, which allows you to "stake" your holdings without leaving your wallet open at all times. There are many other features that make NEM a great cryptocurrency, which may be the reason that it is number 4 in marketcap right now.
Nevertheless, you should always be careful when investing in ICOs and selecting your token of choice. There are many scams out there waiting to take out your money, if you're not aware. So make a research about a specific cryptocurrency or token to play safe. Just my opinion.
