It is important for me that traffic goes through TOR. My ISP blocks all mining pools using the DPI system.

I need the traffic to go encrypted through the TOR. How can I set a proxy server on this device?
You can't. It does not have that ability. Best you can do is use a different ISP.

tip: in cases like this it would be a GREAT help if:
a. you say what country you are in
b. give the name of the offending ISP

Most countries and ISP's do not care if you mine so frankly most folks here have never had those problems.

Can I run my own mining pool on a computer on a local network and redirect traffic from it to another mining pool via the Tor network?

Hello! How to enable the socks5 proxy server on the device so that traffic goes through the Tor network?
you mean your miner would send data via tor?
You will never ever win a block as other than hashing power the latency also matters, the lower the latency the higher the chances of winning a block.

Mine is back up and running for now. I don’t really trust it, but it seems to be doing fine at the moment. I think it doesn’t make sense to use these or a bitaxe as anything but a solo miner, so whether or not it is a good purchase depends on whether or not you hit a block, or need the heat. I think I’ll wait and see if bitaxe releases a higher speed device with a better price per th before thinking about buying anything else.

Are you thinking about the NerdQAxe Supra?
At 4 TH/s, it appears to have an efficiency of 20W/TH.

Maybe I'll also wait to see this release and then decide whether to buy it or not.

No, that TH per $ amount is pretty terrible I think.  I'd probably be better off just sticking with a Avalon Nano 3...  If they can release a 12TH/s miner for less than a thousand dollars, then I might be interested.  We're talking solo mining here though, so it is most likely a complete loss.  Overpaying for the hardware makes it worse.  Sure, the Avalon might fall apart, but how long would you have to run a Bitaxe to make up for the higher price per TH?  My guess is years and with summer not far away, I think it might make sense for me in my personal position to let the Avalon do it's thing for a couple more months and then just turn it off until next winter.  If Bitcoin bubbles up then maybe it would be worth trying to grab some hardware at the top for next winter.

The Avalon Remote app has been superseded with a hokey Avalon Family app over the past few days with several revisions / updates out on it.

Two updates ago I wasn't able to see any of them through their app. After the most recent update they are back...

So if you can't see access them through the app most likely you need to update!

I got 5 Nano 3 with their PSU.
All running on high for months with no problems.
The new mini 37.5 TH/s looks interesting

Mine were good for 6-7 months they are dead.

Yours will likely die before july

I'll add to this I had to return 1 out of the 6 Nano 3's due to failure within the first 3 weeks of having them running on medium.

All ordered from their indiegogo pre-sale with official PSU's.

The quality of these is certainly in question for long term use but for the value for a 4TH miner is still pretty decent imho.

yeah I spent say 260 for two of them. power cost was say 5x170=850 kwatts at 16 cents.

so 260+140=400 usd for 7 months worth of hash at ckpool.

its not a terrible price.

but they are never going to last long as the usb-c can not do 100-140 watts 24/7

the bitaxe with a proper heatsink is far more efficient. the first bitaxe I got was not built right due to heatsink issues.

the new one will work and work and work and work and work.

much like the little beagles I got they will work and work and work and work.

ITS FUNNY my two nanos are fine at medium speed since the summer.

But my bitaxe died in 2 days or so. I got a replacement bitaxe which is really working good.

The replace is better than the 2  nanos  as it is doing only 17.7 watts for 1th very quiet and efficient.

So based on my first bitaxe the nanos were better.

and based on my replacement bitaxe the bitaxe smokes the nanos.

don’t buy a nano.

a usb-c jack will not run 24-7-365 for years.

I am pretty sure that even set to middle speed I burned up the the input ports on both nanos.

so six-seven months and trashed they are.

Just in time for me to not buy the 1100 usd mini. So they lose an 1100 usd buy from me.

This analysis is interesting.

I've also thought about buying Bitaxe. In your analysis, after doing the math, is it more worthwhile?

The problem, which isn't a problem, is that Bitaxe only works in solo mining? That means you're just doing block lottery, right?
Well, you never know what might happen in the next 10 minutes.  Roll Eyes

I think either i am confused or you are.
the mini and the nano 3s have USB 2.0 or 3.0 for wifi module which can also act as RJ45 adapter for wired.

for power yes the nano 3 and 3s have type c but for mini it is full power cable.

So will you buy the mini 3? I bought from ebay for 899$ and i live in a country where there is no service centre. I already have nano 3 and only use it 16 hours a day in medium mode to mine solo BCH

Okay they sold me garage that broke in 7 months.

why buy from them again?

Fool me once. Not twice.

So Avalon lost a 1100 dollar sale (including the selling cost)

at joker I can mine the bitaxe gamma to viabtc.com

I think my nano 3 might be a paperweight already. I noticed that it wasn’t hashing on the pool so I pulled up the app on my phone and saw it has been updated. Unfortunately, after I restarted the miner I was no longer able to connect to my network. I’ll have to mess with this when I have more time. Between the loud whining fans having ball bearings going out already, bad software, and now a dead miner, I have to say I wish I’d gone with a bitaxe instead.

I sold mine month ago. The company did not invest much into this product. We could have seen this on how they managed the security issue the device had at the beginning. I've not seen a useful improvement over the time the device was released to the market.

A Bitaxe is a much better investment, if you ask me. Software is improved all the time, large community around it and there is new hardware published from time to time. Firmware is not hidden behind lots of links and it is open source.

Support is also much better for a Bitaxe than for the Nano 3.

Two of my devices have already been repaired. The bearings on the other 3 are already whistling. I don't think this is a product with a very long lifespan.

However i see in the current update of the app, one can create an account even though you dont need to .I think this is for remote operations like if you are out of home and not connected to your locale network and want to tinker the miner.

Has anyone tried to create an account in the app and then log in?
