waves is already more than $0.50 which can be too much. one with just $100 can't have more than 200 WAVES out of it. but with XEM, its more than enough to have thousands of it. its more than profitable to invest to it that with just minimum growth of $0.05 can be a sign of celebration. 
The absolute value of a currency unit is completely irrelevant. What you're interested in is the relative growth rate. Otherwise, following your logic, BTC is overvalued because you can only have 0.05 BTC for $100.

I invested some BTC in Matchpool (Guppy, GUP) because I think this project has a lot of potential. Expect to see the market break in Q2 of 2018.

For me i would invest in much longer exist altcoin which is eth, LTC and DASH, these coin would gives more profit in 2017 even for long term investment.
I do not want to put my money with some new alt coin which having small volume of demand. And i recommend to make more survey about your coin wanting to buy in 2017 to secure your income.
You should consider about RLC token. This coin gives me 3.5x return for my investment. This might be considered as one of good long term investment and it has a lot of volumes. [I'm a noob to digital coins, so take my opinion with a grain (or more) of salt . I'm also not invested in WAVES or XEM (Nem), so hopefully my comments are unbiased.]
Just the price of the coin is probably not a good indicator of where it stands or how far it'll go. Another thing to consider is the total # of coins in circulation. The # of coins for WAVES is 100M, while for XEM it is 8.99B (numbers from WorldCoinIndex.com). Any new investment/outflow in XEM will be spread uniformly to ~9 billion stocks before it shows up as price move. Any price move (up or down) will show up much faster for WAVES than for XEM.
I think Decred has had cold staking for almost a year. And re: bitbay, waves, and syscoin, why would anyone want to buy these completely premined ICO ponzi tokens just to use a marketplace or smart contract? Openbazaar exists now, with shapeshift integrated, meaning you can use Bitcoin or most legitimate alts to shop on a marketplace that has, you know, actual products listed. And at this point it seems like no one is using smart contracts for anything, but they're coming for bitcoin on rootstock soon anyway.

Why do you say that Komodo is a scam? Prior to Komodo the only ICO that was held was for SuperNET, which is still in existence and is the technological backbone of Komodo.

Looking at the market now, I'd say xem, sys, gno, and steem. There seems to be a 20k wall for steem, but since it has broken through twice now, I think third time will be the charm
If you are long-term investor, invest in some Monero (XMR), it's price is climbing up from 2016 after yet another market (I can't give the name) started accepting payments in XMR. ETH is also good option, ETC is just dying. Don't invest into NVC $hitcoin. If you believe in LTC price rising because of SegWit implementation, then you may put your money here.

For the second half of 2017 I say SONM. It will be better than all other super computer projects. Too much hope for this project.
I'd also like to mention Waves, Sasha and his team is working hard to achieve things this year. They opened Dex, they support new assets based on Waves. I expect a price rise for them.

Looking at all the retracements today - it looks like we may be at the end of the global alt coin bull run - time for me to regroup and start acquiring more coins
I'd say it has to do with the massive run with BTC. Alts are just getting warmed up and we'll see the best one of 2017 in 2018
