I think the best coin to buy for longterm holding are bitcoins and ethereum. They are more stable than other coins and I believe that price will continuously to increase because crypto is getting popular.

In my opinion the best coin invest both in long term and short term trading is the cryptocurrency found in the top 10 of coinmarketcap. Avoid investing in new ICO and other newly launch cryptocurrency, most of them are being dump by hunters and will only rise at first then turns to an unimaginable price later.
Yes, you are right option already the prices of those first top 20 coin in CMC has decreased a lot. So it is good to buy beacuse the values of those coins has decreased a lot. If you buy and hold them for certain period of time you will make much profit.
Beside bitcoin and ethereum you could choice potential coin: NEO, zilliqua, tomochain very hidden gems which has high profit
I do not think the crypto besides Bitcoin and ETH are good for long term trading. They are rather good for short term and day trading. But irrespective of this all, holding a diverse portfolio like you have mentioned for long helps you earn some good money. It also minimize the risk factor that otherwise will hover on your head and might even hurt. There are so many things you have to be efficient in.

There are a lot of coins that are best for long term. For me this is just what I am holding right now that I have on my wallet some are cam from bounties the others are the ones that I buy. First is of course the bitcoins they will never be out of my investment. Ethereum being the most successful altcoins here and as the bitcoins rises they also rises as what I have notice. And there are the litcoins which my friends have a lot of and the lastly the ripple because they are saying they can be bigger than btc.

Bitcoins will be always the best coin to invest for long term investment because the market price is always pumping before the year ends so i think that holding this coin will give you a lot of profit more than any other altcoin in the market.
