Speaking of the BPIP extension, I noticed this warning. Is this something new because I don't remember seeing it before.

Quote
This extension may soon no longer be supported because it doesn't follow best practices for Chrome extensions.

Can you give me an example of which specific user/feedback it happened to? I can't reproduce this issue and there isn't anything in the code that would do this, as far as I know. It literally copies the text that you see on the feedback page.
I don't understand why only reference link would be messed up.
It happened two times (that I know) and you can find more information in this topic:
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/nvk-c0inkite-c0ldacrd-is-anti-opensource-nutcase-5519534

Have you installed any other extensions recently?  If there are any other extensions, you could try disabling them all except BPIP and see if the issue remains.
I am in process of doing that after talking with PowerGlove in private.
Only two other extensions installed in my browser is uBlock orign, but that is fully disabled in bitcointalk forum.
Second extension is Violentmonkey for userscript, and I was using Ignore threads script by NLNicoo.

EDIT:
Sorry guys, I did some testing and I identified the culprit, it was Ignore threads user script from NLNico.
I was able to reproduce the bug, and no wonder when we know this was released back in 2016.  Tongue
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ignore-threads-user-script-1451483

EDIT2:
interesting that I tried the same userscript with Greasemonkey extensions, and there was no issue (so far).

Hi suchmoon.
I think there is a weird bug with BPIP extension that could be affected with one of the recent SMF patches.
When I copy the feedback from member profiles, it appears to change the Reference link to invalid link or to some different link.

I don't know if I understood you correctly, but it works for me without any changes. Using Chrome browser.
For example, the last feedback from your profile

It is adding this, instead of actual post/topic number:
Code:
action=pm;sa=send2#post_

I already contacted PowerGlove to investigate if this bug is connected with recent changes doone with one of his SMF patches, or there is something else wrong.
BPIP extension is something I used for years doing this, and I never noticed something similar happening.

The extension checks if a "Quote" button exists, and if it doesn't - creates "Quote to clipboard". So now obviously all posts in locked threads have "Quote" buttons and this no longer works. I'll think of something else. I can either use some other way to determine if the thread is locked, or perhaps inject the "Quote to clipboard" button in all threads, even unlocked ones.
Thanks for quick reply.
Adding Quote to clipboard button for all threads is probably easier for next update, just think of some shorter name for the button.
We have much more active forum software developer now so I think we can expect more forum code changes in future.

After recent PowerGlove SMF patch for quoting from locked threads, this option is no longer available in BPIP extension.
Some could argue that there is no more need for that anymore, but I think that additional Quote/Copy button can still be useful and faster way of doing this, and it should work just fine with the new patch (with small tweaks).

Loading great now. They must have gotten bored and moved on.

It has slowed down a bit but they're still trying. We're just getting better at iptables.

I never got this dDos thing. Is that a ransom? Is this a way for your hosting server to make you buy additional protection? Who is spending money to attack you? And why?
If it had ended right now, they probably ended up losing money. So why bother?

It doesn't make any sense, especially the scope of the attack. No one contacted me (or ibminer as far as I know) with any demands. Perhaps someone just wanted us to lose money on bandwidth etc and it kinda worked for the first few hours or so. But (1) we can take the site down and stop incurring any costs - that will inconvenience users but they are already inconvenienced by the DDOS anyway; and (2) once I had some time to figure out firewall setup the site can function with very little extra bandwidth cost... I hope that's worth it for the plonker who's doing this.

Wow somebody really hates you guys  Cheesy

I guess that means you're doing something right.

Yep.  These people are spending money or resources on DOSing BPIP instead of doing something they would enjoy.  When you think about it,  DOSing is a compliment.

Suchmoon, in the interim you could create a static front page and refresh it every min or so.   Call it the BPIP Appreciation Event!  Serving a static page will push the abuse to the internet cache network, and barely affect your server.

~70 million requests per hour
I always thought DDoS came from mainly crappy Windows computers, but it can be anything nowadays:
Most DDoS attacks today originate from a hacker-controlled botnet of vulnerable IoT devices. This includes internet connected security cameras, household appliances, smart TVs, home lighting systems, and even refrigerators.

The exponential growth of DDoS attacks is mostly due to the total lack of regulatory control over IoT devices

The webserver is unable to serve even static pages at the rate it's being hammered. ~70 million requests per hour. Nor does it make sense to pay for that much bandwidth. I'm working to have these shitheads blocked at the edge before incurring any costs.

Should be ok now, at least for a while until the DDOSing asshole figures out a way to bypass the blacklists.

Sorry about the issues.

Bump.

Is there something bad happen to the service? or just a normal temp under development?

Didn't see there was been discussed in the other thread.
Looks like the discussion has started. Bots are doing DDoS attacks on BPIP.ORG, and as a result we may be facing issues using the BPIP extension. In my case it doesn't show completely down, but the issue happened once it was working but next time again it appears that it is not working. Especially in my case DefaultTrust position is not showing.  Lips sealed
My guess is a DDoS or maybe a hung up process in IIS, but I need to wait for suchmoon to confirm, the commands needed to show resource information like this aren't really available on a shell/terminal user account. Server is still partially accessible on my end though, IIS appears running, but everything is very slow. The 503 error sort of hints towards a resource issue, one way or the other.

Yeah looks like DDOS. Not much I can do about that. As I said in the other thread, the forum is full of deranged trolls with nothing better to do. BPIP is only known or useful to bitcointalkers so no one else would have any interest in bringing it down.
