I don't see it, maybe it's just a warning not a ban. the government certainly will not be responsible for what happened with crypto which they consider too risky

Last past months Sri Lanka's Main Bank (Bank of Ceylon) was banned cryptocurrencies in Sri Lanka. What do you think is the reason for that ? Huh
Maybe because the bank is afraid of the crypto currency. And the possible reason for this is the bank might be afraid of it or they just do not have the full knowledge of it.

It is really a very sad news but the reason behind this ban is still unknown and I think all the rumors about bitcoin is the main reason for this accident.
It is unknown why they are beginning to disseminate such information, since many leading countries are already starting to work with crypto currency. It is not for nothing that this issue was raised at the G-20 summit.

Are you sure that Sri Lanka's Bank of Ceylon banned bitcoin? I'm looking for an article that has this news but the results are poor.

This is one of their latest statement: April 16,2018.

Public Awareness on Virtual Currencies in Sri Lanka

They are giving warning to their people but there's no ban.

Bad news for us, and especially for the people around Sri Lanka, this is an opportunity for them to maximize the use of BTC, and unfortunately the government has warned the people who are using Bitcoin, it may be a warning sign but it is also a sign that the people should be staying away, before anything else happens, hopefully some things may improve, and may they not ban BTC.

Yes it is true bitcoin is now banned in Sri Lanka, I've seen a few freelancers who don't accept bitcoin i was curious about that.
But now i get it.

I do not know what is the reason for the ban, but I think that this is not a serious player in the crypto currency market and therefore this news is unlikely to somehow negatively affect the market

Sri Lanka is a developing country and economy is not in a stable position. Might central bank believe if the crypto currency base trading increases inside the country it will impact on the  economical development in the country !

I think it will ban in Sri Lanka definitely some day when these things continues with any government Sri Lanka will have the same thing will happen because the government understanding towards cryptocurrency and its community is very bad and most politicians have no understanding about the potential benefits they can gain to Sri Lanka from cryptocurrencies and the other reason they are making these accusations because India took the same decisions because they have the same mind set like we do

Even I saw the article and I was thinking are we passing the last year or last couple months using Bitcoin and other crypto assets because if the government do something regarding this matter like they dealt with Facebook , WhatsApp, Twitter and other social media during last period all Sri Lankan crypto investors would face a huge problem and nothing we will able to do regarding such decisions

This is an unfortunate news. I think the reason why banks ban cryptocurrencies is because of its freedom, because we know that banks in most countries have economic power, and the decentralization mechanism of coins will cause banks to lose such right!

I think Sri Lanka's Main Bank (Bank of Ceylon) does not want to compete with people being their own banks.

If some nation want to progress, they will have to accept crypto.

Not necessarily but i partially agree with that argument

Humans are scared of new things. Ask people what they think about self-driving cars for example. It seems likely that this bank (and some whole countries) are scared of Bitcoin.

It was a really bad new for those who like to invest in Sri Lanka
I think the citizens of Sri Lanka who are interested to invest their money into bitcoin would eventually find a way to purchase bitcoin online, but I would say the government of Sri Lanka is obviously making a very bad decision to ban bitcoin, as the economic benefits that crypto-currencies could bring to a country would be huge in the future.

There are some ongoing discussions between the current government and the central bank of Sri Lanka regarding the public growing interest to use crypto assets into there business processes and I hope that this will not continue further more to make some regulations or restrictions to people who use crypto assets because if it happens that will be a huge problem for the crypto community in Sri Lanka and it's members
