If you have any valid reasons not to trust "this company", not just assumptions, please, share them here

Im a satisfied customer that thinks that the positives of your service heavily outnumber the negatives, but since you want people to share reasons to not trust your company and are willing to discuss them:

Why is your site so secretive, lacking real contact info like addresses and telephones, and details of the parties and methods involved in order to offer your service? Why dont you explain how it works? Why dont you name mychoice or any other partners involved? Especially since mychoice is a known and trustworthy bank/card issuer that partners with other similar services.

Like I wrote on an earlier post, If I didnt read and knew about people who had ordered cards and succesfuly used them, I would probably think that your site was a scam. Im probably not the only one who gets that impression from your site. Why dont you fix this, or explain the reasons that make you not disclose this info?

thank you for your comments - will analyse and try to action upon them.

In brief:
- we only provide support via e-mail, and the e-mail, and there is a contact form and support@e-coin e-mails openly available on the website. It would be very hard, if possible at all, to deal with 90% of the requests we get via telephone, hence, no telephone numbers provided.
- MyChoice (WaveCrest Holdings) is mentioned in the Ts&Cs when you are ordering the card. Maybe we should advertise it more, not sure
- Other partners, such as BitGo is openly advertised on the home page and in the "Partners" section
- What do you mean by explaining how it works? A better description of the service than the one available?

Would really appreciate your inputs..

I personally don't see a need to use this card myself. There's a coffee shop that has a bitcoin ATM not too far away from my house. I can also use one of the many face-to-face exchanges in my city to convert crypto to cash. Considering the other posts in this thread, I wouldn't want to trust this companny with my money anyway.

Thank you for your comments.
Everyone is different. Not everyone has a bitcoin ATM around the corner. Plus, the fees at bitcoin ATM will be several times higher. Face-to-face is a good way, but how much time do you need to spend from the moment you decide to make an exchange until you have the dollars in your hand? Probably more than a few seconds.

This is an open forum, and negative posts will always exist. The human nature is to pick out one negative sentence out of a hundred positive ones, not much we can do about human nature, but there is surely a benefit to open discussion. If you read more posts, you will see that positives heavily outweigh the negatives.

Deposited money on my account flawlessly. Then loaded my card. But that didn't go well at all. My card hasn't been loaded and now my bitcoins are gone ...
Contacted the support, hopefully i'll get an answer soon.
Keeping you updated.

If we think you are who you are (hard to tell by nicknames), the problem with card loading is caused by the block the bank has put on your card. This sometimes happens when the card holder enters incorrect PIN, password, etc, and it is due to security reasons.
We are investigating and will reply to your request as soon as we have more information

The two times I loaded my card, the loading was instant. Support replies within 1-2 hours usually, and with real answers, not copy pasted stuff. Keep us informed with what happened...

The mychoice site for managing the card is really useful and well designed. You need to sign up for it independently from ecoin though. It includes free instant notifications through mail and sms. The transactions are listed immediately, much better than many regular bank cards.
Can you give some more info about how you signed up to mychoice and linked the card you received via the e-coin order ?
Can this have any adversary effects in the e-coin account ?

I forgot to mention that the card was sent by Mychoice from Gibraltar, and theres absolutely no mention of e-coin anywhere in the envelope, card or included letter.

The included letter suggests 3 methods of activation on this specific order:

  • Phone number (same for PIN etc, listed on the card)
  • Visit www.mychoicecorporate.com
  • Visit the partner website from where you ordered the card (e-coin on our case, but not mentioned on the letter that came with the card)

The sign up proccess on the mychoice site only required the card number and birthdate. After that I had to fill in a mobile phone and email for the notifications. My other credentials were automatically filled, according to what I used to sign up on e-coin. I also noticed that mychoice had an address of the format [email protected] as my contact email (quite long string of numbers and letters) that like my other credentials, I couldnt modify.

I think that accessing the mychoice site is intended and allowed since it provides a better view of the transaction, although there is no mention at the e-coin site. (Which like I mentioned on my first post, is a little secretive in general)

My guess is that mychoice allows "partners" to resell its cards, and automate the sign up and top up procedures, but still maintains complete control of the cards. It probably gives an API of some kind for partners to access sign up/activate procedures, remaining money and transaction history, but thats probably all.

I ve been considering the e-coin card for some time, and this thread helped me decide, so i signed up in order to mention my experiences, and potentially help others.

Like many people already mentioned, the fact that there is no info about the company, no real address, and that they dont mention who are the partners and methods used to provide the service, indeed makes them look shady. If I didn't know people who had ordered the card and it worked, I would be sure that it was a scam. I'm sure many people are turned away by those issues. It should be fixed in my opinion.

Anyway, I ordered the card, paid with paypal funds, and it arrived 7 days later in Greece (5 work days, as mentioned on the site), on an unregistered (no signature or tracking) envelope.

The card is plain black, it doesn't look like the designs on the site. The actual provider of the card is MyChoice. The numbers and info are 3d/relief printed. The name printed is the "name on card" option filled in on ecoin, not the real name.

The card is easy to activate, by inputing the last digits on the ecoin site. In order to get the pin for ATM/POS transactions you need to call a UK number and go through a very easy and fast automated proccess, for which you need the card number and your birth date.

Loading bitcoins on the ecoin site takes quite a long time. For 0.9BTC It took about 2 hours, going through 6 confirmations (this might be expected, I didn't have much experience with bitcoin before getting this card)

After that, converting BTC to currency on the card is instant.

The card works perfectly with any online transaction I tried, including paypal. The fact that the name on card is different than my paypal name wasnt a problem. I did give my real name on the registration proccess though, so perhaps Its listed, just not printed on the card. Also keep in mind that after adding the card to paypal, It will try to convert currency to Gibraltar Pounds, with its own exchange rate. You should definitely disable this feature since there are no Gibraltar Pound ecoin cards, paypal just assumes this due to the fact that the card issuer is based in Gibraltar. The 3% rate of mychoice for currency converting should be better than paypal for other conversions too.

I haven't used the card for any ATM or POS transactions yet, but It probably works fine with them too.

The mychoice site for managing the card is really useful and well designed. You need to sign up for it independently from ecoin though. It includes free instant notifications through mail and sms. The transactions are listed immediately, much better than many regular bank cards.

It seems that mychoice is completely independent from ecoin, and that you can load the card with other methods too (like bank transfer). Ecoin only does the automated conversion of BTC to fiat currency and the loading of the card. It seems like that money in the card is safe, I would be more afraid of the Ecoin site/wallet.

I have owned the card only for a day so I cant know what will happen on the long term, but it seems everything works as advertised, and the commissions are really low.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs such a service.

got a usd card a while back.. works well. havnt verified it yet though. certainly il be getting a euro card for myself and one for each family member. Smiley

just a quick tip for you (although shouldn't really be talking about it in this situation): a good way for you to save/earn some bitcoins in case you plan to order cards for family members is have them register via your affiliate link - this would give them all a 25% discount off the card price (the standard delivery one) and you will earn bitcoins on each of their card load transactions

oh cool... Grin thanks for the tip.. il do that for sure. Smiley

Interesting company. They're based in the UK and are regulated there. Seems like it could be a good project for them.
