I used to think that this is a dead fork that everyone will soon forget. But now I see that the project began to revive and the developers decided to go on. Perhaps this coin can live for several months. But I'm not ready to take risks and invest in BTG anyway...

FreeBitcoins.com is the easiest way to check for and potentially CLAM BTG... A user can learn about BTG in 30 seconds and find out they qualify for free BTG in the next 30 seconds.

i can follow the previous bitcoin cash fork easily. But for this bitcoin gold, it is not easy to find out when is the finalised time for the snapshot to be taken and is there any replay protection implemented.
yes they have replay protection. It was actually the condition of hardware wallet manufacturers that they will not support it unless it is implemented. So they implemented it after the snapsot, but before going live.

In the beginning it was messy, I agree - no replay protection, scams with wallets listed on the official site. Now it is better. I suggest to stick to the most reliable and most official solutions when dealing with BTG - use only official wallet (full node wallet) or hardware wallets from official well-established vendors.

I think that eventually people will understand what BTG is and stop taking interest in this project, it seems to me that the BTG project was created only in order to raise money from people, thus giving nothing in return, the usual fork of bitcoin

You're pretty much describing 99% of coins out there.

well, i suppose that i have to find a way and use coinomi. It seems that there is no other way. Thanks everybody for your help!

If you have already swept the BTC private keys, you could even use a borrowed android device

Great advice.

Remember: BTC - and - BCH (!). Don't forget BCH guys. Currently BCH is worth about 10% of the BTC, and BTG only 1% (aproximately). So before you even think of getting to the 1%, secure your remeining 110% of your funds.

You probably want to study this article in-depth:

Also, what do you mean by "private keys" ?  Your Bittrex password isn't your private key.

thank you for the link, it talks about coinomi, but it's only for android Sad

well, i mean private keys. Cheesy

I have an account on bittrex but i didn't have btc on bittrex at the moment of the fork! So i don't understand how bittrex can give me my btg, unless, in some way, i give them my private key with my btc at the momento of the fork

Bitrex will  not give you BTG if you didn't have the BTC balance with them at the time of the fork. It applies to any other exchange too.

I may tell you I did some research at the time of participating in Legend of Satoshi Nakamoto challenge and the available choices to sweep BTG private keys seem to be limited to the following:
1) coinomi - it is only for Android at present, but they support a large number of other coins as well.
2) some third party website services that claim to sweep your private keys for you at a fee. At best - risky. At worst - scam. I would stay away from it. That is why I will not provide any links. They are easy to google though Smiley
3) downloading a full node BTG client from official site and synchronizing it (recommended, I described the procedure in my post above, the downside is that it requires >100Gb disk space)

There are also some wallets that support BTG but DO NOT allow to sweep private keys. You may want to try hardware wallets for instance. They are very secure and easy to use. Definitely worth their price if you have any considerable balance in your crypto. But you will not sweep the BTG balance directly. There are some ways around that problem though: you might want to borrow an Android phone from a friend, install coinomi, sweep your private key and the next moment move the whole balance to your hardware wallet and return your borrowed phone. Of course tell your friend what you intend to do with his phone first Smiley

yes, it sound right to me. So my only option, if i can't download all the blockchain, is coinomi? mmm i'm not so happy about that Sad

Never done before, but you could try virtualize on KVM android x86 and then on top of that install coinomi, if you haven't an android phone

If you did not have BTC on Bittrex at the time of the fork Bittrex will not be giving you any BTG. Simple as that.

I am still confident that the btg price will recover very nicely during the year and get more attention just HODL ! Don't store your crypto on the exchanges!

What is up with the Coinone exchange? At the moment they are selling Bitcoin Gold at $368 dollars when the average price is $141.

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/bitcoin-gold/#markets

there are two likely reasons for that.

the main reason is that it's in korea. the korean market is closed to outsiders. no money can get in or out so the prices do their own thing and pretty much ignore the rest of the world because the rest of the world can't touch it.

even then that price is much, much higher that the other korean exchanges. this almost always means something is broken somewhere. i'll guess you can't deposit btg there. if coins could flow normally arbitrage would wipe that premium out. no one turns down free money.

! i don't have right now all this space free on my hard drive Sad
is it possible in some other way?

I'm afraid you're gonna have to either delete some stuff to make room, either use a web wallet (it takes care of keeping a copy of the blockchain synced for you).

If anything, you can always buy a cheap USB key and tell the wallet to store the blockchain on it.

thanks for your help. How can i use a web wallet? I've heard about coinomi. Can i use it? what i have to do?

Don't know about coinomi but bear in mind that any exchange that supports BTG is pretty much always offering a BTG web wallet.

So Bittrex, Cryptopia... any exchange that offers BTG trading can be used as a web wallet for BTG (restrictions may apply, such as mining directly to the wallet and whatnot).
