Venezia and Fiorentina's away wins took us all off guard, i suppose. Nobody, and i mean nobody, in our pool had either team in their selections. Fiorentina did not have two consecutive league wins all year last year, could they be a contender for top 8 perhaps?

You gotta love the symmetry though, all three matches were 0:1 at halftime, and all three ended with 2:1 (btts bettors 🤝), with Napoli making a comeback in the second half. Speaking of Napoli/Juve match, Szczesny with yet another mistake, making it three in three matches. He single-handedly gifted Udinese a point in the opener, and Napoli's equalizer was on him as well, maybe Allegri should take a look at Perin for the next couple of fixtures (he is not a bad goalkeeper).

Last season, we had quite a few upsets in Serie A in the weeks following international breaks, and i think we might see a few more on Sunday...Salernitana, anyone? Roll Eyes Grin

I haven't been there yet, but I understand your disappointment. Sometimes when you travel to hyped places, you set big expectations you often end disappointed. But I'm surprised that food wasn't good. About Venezia stadium it's something unique that teams and fans can access stadium only through water.
Tomrrow we will have big game between Napoli and Juventus. But personaly, I don't like big games right after international break before players often return to clubs not in optimal condition.
I am sure he came at the wrong time, especially when he said about the impact of flooding at that time. Indeed, this might often occur, the stadium is surrounded by waters.
But maybe really there are things interesting and good food there. It's just that sometimes we don't have time to enjoy all these things. And when we meet something that is not complaining, it will be a bad impression during life.

BTW, this Venezia stadium looks not big enough and is quite simple.
However, currently, it will be being renovated and the plan will be opened in 2023. We just see the results how, when we are seeing from the design and capacity of the stadium will be very good and accommodate more supporters or audiences.

Have you been to Venezia mate? For me it is one of those places that sound great on paper but end up disappointing you when you finally get there. Venezia is quite close to where I live and I took catamaran boat there twice while I was younger and was not impressed at all. Whole City smelled funky due to their problems with flooding, food was expensive and bad, which is really strange for Italy but maybe I sat at all the wrong places....

Sorry for a bit off topic rant. Place your picks gentlemen, still some people without predictions, including me Smiley

Venezia is another newcomer who will strugle to stay in the league, but I like how their kit looks and their stadium located in very beautiful place.

yeah, I know, they are Salernitana Smiley
they are from tourist region, and it would be better for them to be tourist mecca than playing Serie A, and would probably be expressly sent to Serie B

joking aside, I think that they are, by far, weakest team in the league this season, and that they will struggled to get points, not even thinking about avoid relegation
Agree about Salernitana,, they don't have big chances to stay in the league. But they signed Ribery few days ago, that's a reason to follow them. Even at 38 years, he had quite important role in Fiorentina.

Is it strange to be excited for the first time in my life about Italian football? Or is it just because I am not in the bottom of the group as other seasons for other leagues?  Cheesy

I have always just followed Spurs but because I had a friend who watched Juventus I always pretended to like the other team playing them. Does anybody know much about Salertina? I of course can google them but if there is any local insight it could be interesting.

Milan has added two solid midfielders in Bakayoko and Junior Messias. I like the addition of the Brazilian (who has a very unusual past, google him if you want to learn more), he and Simy pretty much carried Crotone last season.

This is what I enjoy the most about the forums here,,, that you always find nice tidbits like this to read about. Very unusual,,, but I think for me the most unusual story to read this season was how a Bundesliga player actually smuggled himself into the country and got a fake passport and eventually played football and got citizenship.

Related to your story is a former Afghan minister, Oxford graduate, who ran to Germany (also) and is now working as delivery boy. https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20210830-work-is-work-afghan-ex-minister-now-delivers-food-in-germany

Rent is 420 euros a month, and he probably got a small place to live alone, that is almost 3 times minimum wage here, fantastic world we live in,,, humans are so amazing!

Oh,,, and Moise Kean back to Juventus now? Good for him!

The summer transfer window in Serie A is now closed, can't say anything interesting has happened today, though there are a few transfers that caught my attention in the last 24/48 hours:

Lazio  Felipe Caicedo - Lazio to Genoa;  Mattia Zaccagni - Verona to Lazio;     Milan Junior Messias - Crotone to AC Milan; Tiemoue Bakayoko - Chelsea (played for Napoli last season) to AC Milan

Udinese  Beto Betuncal - Portimonense to Udinese; Bologna Takehiro Tomiyasu - Bologna to Arsenal; Sassuolo Francesco Caputo - Sassuolo to Sampdoria

Juventus  Moise Kean - Everton to Juventus; Cagliari  Keita Balde - Monaco to Cagliari; Torino Josip Brekalo - Wolfsburg to Torino; Dennis Praet - Leicester to Torino

Lazio replacing Caicedo and Correa with Zaccagni, don't think they have much depth up front if Immobile gets injured.

Sassuolo are keeping their core players except for Ciccio Caputo who is headed to Sampdoria. There were a lot of rumors and interest about Berardi in the last couple of weeks, but i guess nobody is paying +€35.00m at this point.

Harko: I hate these int breaks. I can't say just how much I do, but I really do.
We all hate international breaks but we all love watching World Cup or Euro during summer, unfortunately we have to have former in order to have later Smiley What is worse we don't even have our freebet challenge this week due to those breaks. Hope it will at least be a couple of juicy matches to make time go faster, did not check the schedule yet. I know only Croatia team opponents, and we will be playing without Modric.

I am also surprised by my performance, only problem I am unpleasantly surprised. Never started the season this badly on all fronts. I am good at fantasy though. Kicking your ass there at least  Grin

No matter, international break now and that means hard form reset and chance for some upsets.

I really don't know what's more surprising over the weekend Atalanta and Sassuolo the usual heavy scoring/conceding teams both playing a goalless draw in their respective fixtures or Juventus dropping further points, all in all it was still not so a terrible week as I'm still second position overall.

Now we have to go 10 days without club football  Undecided

Haha, hey I did very well in week 1, but admitting here fantasy is just something I'm not used to after having these pools. Didn't even make any changed for Week 3, kept the exact same lineup as Week 2 but probably need to tinker and get injured players out (like Bobby Firmino damn).

I guess sometimes playing without knowledge or emotion is better?

up to this point, it was mostly favorites win, and whoever played on favorites had good results, if you had some exact scores as well, then you are close to top
Napoli brought me first exact score in final moments of their match, and Milan, Rome won their matches easily

is Rome on a road to top2 positions this season, they and Inter seem as best at the start, although Lazio stormed 6:1 in this round

Yes, that is probably why I did quite alright too,,, just thinking from my mind who are the favorites and not really thinking like I do in EPL where I feel like I know my team is better than the opponent even though the league table says something different.

Looks like all the good teams in Italy (Except Juventus) are doing as expected.

yeah, those two goalless draws are really not expected
and Juve lose as well, you can see it in the pool, where no one predicted that outcome

ten day break will be of help to Juve, they need to overcome Ronaldo leave, and ten days are good for form to get back in shape, it is just two rounds, but they are already five points down

I'm somewhat surprised by my own performances early here and in EPL. I know I've deliberately toned down on my upset predictions but anyway am sure my discipline won't hold out, not will everyone else keep misstepping;)

Yeah Lazio!

I'm still rooting for Juventus to go all the way though, they've had similar runs like this during the 6-7 years monopoly.. It's going to be tougher this season thought as they lack a little of stars players in their top form like they used to.

I had 4.5 points in the first 2 fixtures for this week, and just 1 point from the 4 fixtures after that 😮

As did Real, City even, dropping points early on, yet ended up winning the marathon when early pacesetters stuttered. I suppose they'll enjoy the challenge, though, I'm sure it gets somewhat dull at the top when there aren't many pretenders nipping at your heel.

I believe this is the highest I have ever been in a pool for a football league. Of course, it is only just 2 games inside so it is a league table that lies but it does feel nice to be 1 point away from the top,,, unlike the other leagues like EPL which I actually follow. I guess sometimes playing without knowledge or emotion is better?

Bagged 12/1 win on Empoli, although as I said yesterday, the odds should really have been far higher. I guess without Ronaldo, despite his age and price tag, still big enough for the bookies to tick their odds down.

Not going to be good value throughout the season anymore if the best I could get was 12x on a promotee playing away.

Time for a new champion in Serie A!

Cool cash! Congratulations..

This Juve squad has no chance to take the title in my opinion. It is not so much a problem of Ronaldo going away as much as quite limited squad. They are good defensivly as always but Chielini will not be playing for ever. Other parts of the squad are just ok, nothing that screams title contender to me.

Inter looks miles better and with more quality even after losing Hakimi and Lukaku. They brought some good players and I expect them in the top again. Maybe Atalanta, Lazio or Napoli have quality for that extra step this season. I don't trust Milan but have not seen them play yet.

Napoli was my dark horse 3 seasons ago, and then Lazio two seasons ago, but the way they've been playing against an overall backdrop of Italian renaissance in attacking football, maybe good for them too. I didn't take outright bets this season though, focused it all on Liverpool was it was 7/1 good value. Then again, early season doesn't mean much but I'd love to see Napoli/Lazio again, and hey, seeing Milan back where they belong is a good sight too. Old Lady of Turin has never looked so much like their nickname.

@vd309 well done buddy! I actually had 2 freebets expired today, thinking I could use them UNTIL and including 29th (today). My fault though, should have put them all on Empoli.
