You can see Canelo's frustration in round 5, while Bivol is still composed and didn't fall on Canelo's trap.

And yes, it really seems to be very simple, used his jab, and then combination, and quick on his feet as to not get trap in the corner wherein Canelo can throw a lot of punches. Canelo's punches doesn't affect Bivol which led me to think that he can't carry his power to his division.

Canelo was pissed and frustrated the whole fight because he cannot see an opening, and that round 5 we can really tell, even the announcers said it was Canelo's frustration when he provoked Bivol as if he wants more of it and as if he wasn't hurt.

Bivol was just the better fighter in this match, he was calm and uses his size and reach all the time. His footwork and combos were great.
I am going to expect a rematch with this fight.

I never expect the outcome of the fight. It seems to me that Canelo has an off-night. Not to make excuses though, Bivol is really good and not overrated. But something is missing on Canelo, timing is off, didn't see the punch out put and was never in the fight from the first round.

Never expected Bivol to win the fight, it looks like Canelo is easily getting tired of every punch he releases and is not able to avoid those quick jabs. Also, not avoiding those punches from round 5 which I think Bivol gain more points.

But in fairness, Bivol really dominates the fight and takes advantage of punch reach which always connects.

The good thing is, I didn't bet much for Canelo only a small portion has been lost.

Bivol has the power to match Canelo, I like what he showed, he is not afraid to go toe to toe against Canelo, and with his great strategy, he prevented Canelo from getting inside. Bivol use his advantage in this fight, well fought and IMO, I believe that Bivol would still win the rematch.

Well, Canelo has finally found the fighter that could defeat him and we cannot blame the fans because Canelo is very popular. There's a rematch, so we now have the time to choose which fighter we think will win, and I'm sure the betting odds that Bivol will not anymore a heavy underdog if he will still be listed as the underdog.

I think it's time for his team to rethink his campaign for greatness he is taking more than what he can chew, he is fighting a real light heavyweight, I notice Canelo is easily tired he is still fast but those punches coming from a heavier fighter is just too much, he will still be great in the middleweight he should concentrate there, maybe unite all belts and fight the best in the middleweight, and go to defend until he breaks Hopkin's record.
There's a debate on who is the greatest in the middleweight and he has a claim for it, set a record that future champions will be hard to match.

This is a perfect day for me. Huge stoppage victories from Oliveira and Chandler in the UFC and of course Bivol taking Canelo once again to school. I think it was disrespectful when Canelo as a challenger was introduced last when it could've been Bivol. But Bivol was always focus and even mentioned after the fight that the loud Canelo fans further motivated him. Bivol was executing his team's game plan very well, even at times when Canelo was already cornered, Bivol showed discipline not to over commit. And to the hardcore boxing fans, you guys knew the judges attempted to change the outcome of the fight when all of them gave Canelo 5 rounds. But it was just too much, Bivol was clearly dominating Canelo all over the ring that the judges cannot find more close rounds and loopholes.  Grin

Congrats to you, I know you are a solid Bivol and good that you put your money on him a win big.

As for those who bet on Canelo including myself, yeah, upset happens, we just to accept that.  Smiley

It was a simple but yet effective strategy for Bivol, don't let Canelo get inside, used his jab more to prevent him from entering. And then uses his best combo, one-two punch to throw Canelo off balance and to score points in the judges scorecard. But I guess the judges gives Canelo more rounds though.

Everyone here is thinking that Canelo would easily beat the champ, including me of course, so I'm guilty but I'm glad I didn't put my bet on that game. LOL.. congrats to the bettors who trusted Bivol, it was an easy win by the defending champ and the odds is very sweet.

I don't if there was a rematch clause on this one but if indeed there is a rematch I think the output would be just the same.

They were both asked about a possible rematch and they both agree, Canelo should move on and go for Golovkin or other middleweight champions like Andrade or Charlo, I don't think the result will be the same if they meet again.

Canelo was just surprised on Bivol's flexibility he has counter moves and manages to slip on his big punches, this Bivol has a future in the light heavyweight and cruiserweight or even the heavyweight division, he is a very polished boxer.

I don't think a boxer as great as Canelo can't have an off night he's been doing this for many years already, it's just that Bivol has a counter on his every move do a replay, and check every Canelo move, he is trying to bait Bivol just like he did on so many of his fight, but Bivol has a different game plan, Canelo has given Bivol a lot of body shots so many of these are blocks, and this frustrate him.
Golovkin will have insight on this fight when they fought, I have doubt now if Canelo will take Golovkin immediately he will have to take other middleweight fighters to get his confidence back.

Canelo's added weight perhaps?

Bivol was just too disciplined in that fight and never let his guards down even if he knows that he is winning the fight. That jab really frustrates Canelo as he can't get the gap close and the volume of punches that Bivol threw was amazing though not all connected but most of it somewhat hurt Canelo.

^^ Indeed, what a performance from Bivol, Canelo has a difficulty penetrating Bivol's high guard defense and then Bivol's 1-2 is hitting Canelo.

And whatever Canelo try to rally and somewhat winning the round, Bivol will make a comeback jab, straight, straight. I guess Canelo was exposed here, and probably 175 lbs is too big for him.

With his loss to this weight division, he may go back to super middleweight. And now, time to face GGG again. Will this loss affect the odds as well as purse split if in case Canelo vs GGG will happen this year? GGG came out as winner over Murata.

But on the other hand, with Bivol's win, he may be seeing better purse split for his next fight. We have seen the gap of purse split between Canelo and Bivol. This is the consolation of Canelo for this fight, getting much higher paycheck even if he lost this match.

gg vs canelo will be more accurate, it's an unfinished business.

canelo was surprised how quickly bivol can reach him with a combo. congratulation to the winners. definitely, bivol gave his best. impressive performance though there is no knockout but almost saw what i expect the fight to be. i was rooting for a KO, didn't happen. a loss still.

Wow, this is a huge upset it's almost a complete shut out I have 8 4 rounds in favor of Bivol, Bivol totally dominated him he frustrate Canelo a lot by blocking his punches and going toe to toe against Canelo, I wonder if the GGG fight will still push through, hats off to Bivol he prepares really for this fight.
Glad that all the judges play it fairly not because Canelo is a huge superstar.

Huge upset indeed.

Bivol is just too big and quick for Canelo this time and those punches that Canelo threw had no effect on Bivol. What a domination of Bivol on Canelo, you are right, glad that the judges played it fair though i think they must have given two more rounds for Bivol.

We can say for now that Canelo is not made for the Light heavyweight division and his planned trilogy with GGG might go as planned as it may serve as a comeback fight for him with an opponent who is very beatable.

Congrats to all who bet for Bivol, what a win.

I've never seen Canelo so disappointed in a fight have you seen how he takes his breath he is really tired going into the later rounds, we've known Canelo to be very good in the later rounds but in this fight, he has shown tiredness and disappointment most of his punches are blocked, he was being hit and those Bivol counter took a toll on his body.

Bivol proved all of us wrong, first Canelo is not that invincible second he is not a second-class fighter people pictured him to be, we all thought this fight is just another road to greatness for Canelo.

CBS Sports scored it 119 - 109 for Bivol, Canelo is really outclassed here, even if he loses I still want to see him fight Golovkin.

Ugh 36 users (including me) fucked up with their bets Tongue

Watching the early rounds where Bivol can give a pressure to Canelo, I'm already expect the match will be interesting... but I didn't expect Bivol would win lol. Well Canelo is really struggle especially on the 8th round where he fall, I don't know what's happen, Bivol didn't hit him, perhaps he's tired. Bivol is really protecting his left and right face with his both hands, so the weakness will be on his chin, that's why Canelo often do uppercut to Bivol. But it seems Canelo's uppercut didn't really hitting Bivol's chin.

I can say this match is one of biggest upset I've seen, Canelo as the best pound for pound on the middle weight, can't beat the champion on the light heavyweight. If the fight against Makabu didn't get cancelled, I think Canelo might know how powerful of light heavyweight boxer punch.
