I don't see Ryder to have chance. This is one exhibition for Canelo's skill to show off, shameless way to add a win under his record while its like a Midget team vs NBA all star team.

It can't be that bad for Ryder as long as he get paid in this financial turmoil though. Times like this you need to KOed by Jake Paul to make money.

Lol. What an absurd comparison Cheesy Why so evil ? Cheesy Ryder cant be such trash.

I actually feel bad for John Ryder. Whole world does not believe in him. Imagine to go to fight with such a mood. I hope that this fight would end with UD decision, but not with a total declass by Canelo. Otherwise it slowly turns boring for me to watch Canelo fights, as in middleweight he is undefeated, but he isnt planning to go to other division for more challenge.

It's very humiliating to see a fight where the odds are:

Canelo Alvarez = @1.06
John Ryder = @8.80

I believe that even John Ryder, when he sees this odd, convinces himself that he has no chance of winning in this fight, with many people putting a lot of pressure on him, he can lose concentration, I heard that Canelo hasn't fought in Mexico since 2011 and Ryder is coming for this fight with some optimism because he had good results in the fights before this one, but this odds value is not good for ryder, being left-handed he can have punch angles that are very difficult for a fighter to defend himself, but Canelo Alvarez has the advantage of having good finishing skills, he has good speed

in general it is very difficult when bookmakers give odds of @1.06 to a fighter, and that fighter loses, at least in the few years that I have been in sports betting, there are few cases of games in which bookmakers give odds of @ 1.06 to a fighter and that fighter loses the fight, if it were odds of something like @1.22 and up I could say that John Ryder could still surprise and win this fight, but from what I see, I think it's very difficult to see any surprises in the result this fight, with this low odd I won't place a bet on this fight, maybe I will on the other fights that will happen, I saw the possibility of doing a multibet and placing all favorites that have an odd of @1.06 and it is also an option that I am considering

No dream is too big and no dreamer is too small
^^ Yes, probably Canelo wanting to give his fans what they want to see here, if Canelo felt that it is going to be an easy fight for him, then probably will have to extend the fight in the middle to 10 rounds and soften up Ryder and then toy with him. And maybe he will really test his hands and wrist and see how it is going to be in his fight comeback fight. Usually the bone should be ok, but this is professional boxing, so anything they can broke their hands again because of the power they can generated when throwing it and hitting like the body and face of their opponents. I don't know how Ryder will upset though, unless he turns into a Bivol, with great footwork, better chin and has that volume punching in him.

Of course, John Ryder wasn't cherry picked by Canelo's team to be there to defeat their cash cow. Ryder's sole reason why he is in this bout fighting with Canelo is because he will be the one who will keep latter warm before he proceeds to his rematch versus Bivol.

Besides, I don't think David Benavidez will get his much-wanted time this year because their only choice to make the bout happen is if Canelo will be due for another mandatory defense fight or if Canelo will approve it.

For John Ryder, the man is already on his retirement phase so this should be a good paycheck for him before he hangs up his gloves and leave the boxing industry for good.

There's no doubtn eye opener for the world of boxing, but I'm sure that many of the fans will be rooting for the fight to be a one-sided fight.

I'm not sure if this will be the last fight of the year, but it's going to be a long time before we see the ringtone of the fight coming to an end.

Let's hope that the fight will be a one-sided fight, and we'll see who will win the fight.

Another choice of worthy bet is the round range

Maybe Canelo & 7-9 or Canelo & 10-12 could be a good bet, I don't really expect a quick KO by Canelo, maybe it will give a good fight like when Canelo was fight against Caleb Plant.

I think if Ryder able to pull an upset against Canelo, he will not win via KO, but he can only win via decision. If someone think Ryder can win in this fight, maybe just bet Ryder & 10-12 since the odds is really high.

Well, if John Ryder does not impress the judges even though he is leading may lose the fight.  So we might see Canelo getting an easy victory here due to the skill of Canelo and the judges' favoritism.

Lol, all that Canelo needs to do is show up in the ring and he already wins?

But you've got a point there mate, if this fight will turn out to be a close one, the ref will always raise Canelo's victorious hands as he should not lose in front of his crowd. I've been following Canelo's fight and this dude was never over-confident going into one and he always trains hard whoever opponent thrown in front of him, one of the best attribute a boxer of his caliber must have.

I think this would not last nine rounds, so under 9.5 @1.73 might be the one i will be betting.

I almost forgot about Canelo Alvarez's tune-up fight versus John Ryder, and to think, this bout already around the corner.
1 week to go folks and we can witness Canelo fighting again, and probably we will have some answers afterwards whether if he will fight Bivol first or Benavidez.

Is it worth it, are we expecting something unexpected to happen, if I have the time I will watch it to see if Canelo is still good because if he wants to further move forward he should face Benavidez or do a rematch against Bivol now both fights are tougher so I'd like to see if Canelo still has it or become better after his last fight against Golovkin.
For a fighter like Canelo who has a good status in the boxing world, he should stop cherry-picking fights and always go for the challenging fights, if he still wants to be on top of the Ring Magazine.

Again, those questions will likely be answered after the fight. It's still a mystery for us now how will Canelo perform in this bout because he just got out from the surgery where he repaired his wrist that he has been carrying for two fights, hence why he did a cherry picked fight in-order to tune him up before he fights Dmitry Bivol or David Benavidez next.

But if in-case Canelo and his camp will not achieve their expectations or will not be satisfied in Canelo's performance. I wont' be surprised if they will make another tune-up fight and probably that will be the start of Canelo's career to end because people will start saying that there's no future for him anymore in the industry and might be better if he will just retire rather than embarrass himself to another loss.

I think it's because we are still in the Tank Davis vs Ryan Garcia euphoria, I mean we are all hype about that fight and up to this day, there are a lot of discussions on that, like PPV buys and if Garcia take a dive and just give up.

Anyway, it's time for Canelo to take that away, this is his comeback fight and going to be in his backyard. No doubt that as what others think, cherry pick, tune up fight for Canelo. And they are looking for a Bivol match up and Canelo said it will be at 175 lbs and not his usual super middleweight comfort zone. The reasoning is that he fought and lost to Bivol at light heayweight and so that is the weight that they will rematch.

John Ryder should able to utilize the advantage he got because he have the height and reach advantage which should be enough to outbox Canelo if he can't knock him out. Apart from that, withstanding and weathering those punches from the champion would be a big help for Ryder to maintain his scores. To think, John Ryder is somehow lucky because he got a good 4K clip from the Canelo vs Bivol fight which should give him some points to consider on how to outsmart Canelo and second, Canelo came from a surgery which is possibly a good thing on his side.

Since John Ryder has the physical advantage then he should also learn from Ryan Garcia and Davis fight.  He should learn from the error of Garcia of not utilizing his job and the reach advantage that can create a distance between him and his opponent.  John Ryder should also avoid unnecessary brawls and always check the distance so that he can always take advantage of his reach.

Canelo's height is 5 ft 8+1⁄2 in while Ryder's height is 5 ft 9 in, Canelo reach is 70+1⁄2 in while Ryder's height is 72 in, that's not a big difference. It's really depends on Ryder's strategy in the ring, he need to able to receive all damage using his shoulder and being aggressive. That's what most boxers can't do it because Canelo's punch is strong and hurt too, but Bivol physical appearance and body are more stronger.

Ryder were struggling when he fought a boxer which previously has been defeated by Canelo, so that's not make me convinced to see Ryder pull an upset.

Not that much difference are far as their physical comparison is, on the other hand we might see the Canelo might still be the stronger puncher between the two despite his hand injuries, I think Canelo still possesses those dangerous body punch that bring his opponent down.

Although triangle theory doesn't work on boxing, but we can see the Ryder's previous opponents wherein he had a hard time, Canelo just bust them up easily. That is a strong indication that Canelo and Ryder are not on the same level, IMHO. And it's hard to see what tools Ryder has to upset Canelo in this fight at his own home soil.

Well, yes, that's without a doubt true because the difference of their power is really huge and no matter how we groom John Ryder in this fight, Canelo is really in a different league/level. Ryder just got this chance for a sole reason and that is to test Canelo's wrist while also minimizing the risk of a defeat because Canelo is still risking all four belts in this fight. In other words, Ryder is just a mere boxer in near retirement phase picked to tune-up Canelo.

It is early to say that John Ryder can't touch Canelo.  If John Ryder is able to resist the strong punches of Canelo, then what @Japinat stated is possible.  So if John Ryder wanted to win against Canelo, he should KO Canelo (this is the most convincing way) if not then he needs to be:

  • tough to withstand strong punches from Canelo and box with him all throughout the rounds
  • he should make clear that he throw and landed more punches than Canelo
  • if he can't knock out Canelo, he should try to outsmart and outbox him.

If John Ryder failed to make a convincing performance and the fight is close, he might lose the match even if he is leading due to the "judge favorite" factor.

As is all the case in championship bouts, the challenger should take away the crown from the champion, and the challenger should be the aggressor and should be aggressive if Ryder cannot put out an outstanding performance and the fight becomes close the champion keeps the crown through a split decision or draw, I agree that he needs a knock out to win the crown, it's hard to beat Canelo in a very close fight because he is a very good finisher, he is a slow starter but always manage to take over the late rounds.

Apart from that, if the fight is very close, it's clear enough just like what happened in the past that Canelo will get some help from the judges so that he can keep his title and belts. So Ryder should be wise enough and careful on this fight because Canelo can still throw a deadly punch that will send him directly to retirement as Ryder is already hinting that this will be his last fight if he can't have any positive outcome. Being the aggressor will help but he should be careful as he's the one who might catch a surprise.

No Surprise here this is another picked fight for Canelo Alvarez for sure, but even though this is a cherry-picked fight for Canelo Alvarez this is a great opportunity for John Ryder to prove himself even further because even if he didn't win this fight but he has shown great performance and make this fight a gruesome one for Canelo Alvarez I really think that will favor many viewers for him and as we all know that Alvarez is near his hanging of the gloves but this is surely for Canelo Alvarez to tuned himself or this match will serve as another sparring partner for him,
Not sure if Canelo Alvarez's retirement is already that near not unless he will finish all the fights queued for him especially his rematch against Bivol because he's still enjoying his career and he is still young enough to start considering when to hang up his gloves as he is still 32 years old. But for John Ryder, this is a good opportunity for him to showcase his skills and he should take advantage of this because not everyone has the chance to fight Canelo Alvarez. If it weren't because of his injury, Ryder will not have this chance, so at least he should make this fight interesting enough if he cannot really defeat the current undisputed champion.

Not sure if he is hinting on retirement, but if that hand injury will bother him or if it is broken again, maybe he might slow down a bit in the next coming years. But he still has a unfinished business with Bivol, everyone wanted a rematch whether 168 lbs or 175 lbs.

Or even fight younger fighters like David Benavidez and not hide on the reason that he doesn't want to face another Mexican.

So we might not see him retiring very soon, maybe a lot of fight still in Canelo and still looking to accomplished more.

But we can not say for sure as what we have seen in the recent fight for Zhilei Zhang vs Joe Joyce it was a cherry-picked fight for Joyce and it really bite them back harder than Concreate, it was really an upset for Joyce and could be a potential downhill for his career, now underestimating an opponent is surely not a good move and for this Alvarez vs Ryder fight it could happen again but let's just way this will be fewer days for it to start so for me let's just enjoy it,
Ryder is full of confidence going into this fight, and he said that Canelo and his camp shouldn't sleep on him. As we or maybe him included has been hearing about Canelo rematching Bivol or even inserting David Benadivez name in the mix.

As if they are overlooking him in this fight and that he will just be another name in Canelo's resume.

So we shall see how tough Ryder is. Because amongst the British fighter that Canelo fought, no one last the full distance.

He should be, this is going to be his biggest fight to date, no offense to him, but majority of us haven't heard of this name, until Eddie Hearn mentioned him that a possible fight between him and Canelo.

And it become true so he will have a tougher fight ahead of him, but if you look at the amount of money he will be getting here, I guess that's already a win win for him. Hopefully, he will show up in this fight and not just trying to go and not win. On the other hand, again, as what we have been saying, this might be a cherry pick for Canelo in preparation for a bigger fight in the future, a rematch with Bivol.
